THE FARMER FUND TO HOST 2ND ANNUAL
“CALENDAR RELEASE PARTY” ON MONDAY, AUGUST 22ND, 2016
Atlanta Nonprofit Supports Metro Area Farmers
Last Year’s Event Raised Over $30,000 and Attracted 275 Attendees
Atlanta, GA—The Farmer Fund—an Atlanta nonprofit founded in 2015 to serve metro Atlanta farmers in the face of natural disaster—will host the release party for its much-anticipated 2017 calendar on Monday, August 22nd, 2016, at The Cathedral of St. Philip (2744 Peachtree Road NW). Early Bird tickets are priced at $65 until August 1st and available here.
The Farmer Fund helps local farmers get back on their feet after natural disasters, such as flooding or tornados, by providing grants through donations and fundraising. Lauren Carey (Executive Director of Peachtree Road Farmers Market) and Darla Synnestvedt (Director of Catering and Events at Farm Burger) founded the nonprofit last year to serve the farmers who feed Atlanta’s families. The organization’s launch party (and 2016 calendar release party) in August 2015 raised over $30,000, including a $11,203 donation from Slow Food Atlanta and Field of Greens, and attracted about 275 attendees.
Beginning at 5:30pm, festivities will include lots of local food and beer, courtesy of the Atlanta chefs and breweries below, a chance to meet and mingle with local farmers, and live music. The organization will reveal The Farmer Fund 2017 Calendar at the event, featuring Atlanta chefs in nothing but Hedley & Bennett aprons with the farmers who grow their food. The calendar’s theme will remain a mystery until the night of the event. All guests will receive a copy of the calendar to take home, and it will be available for purchase after the event for $20. There will also be an apron fashion show and live auction emceed by Chef Chris Hall (Local Three) featuring blow-up prints of calendar outtakes.
At the event, guests will enjoy food and beer from local Atlanta restaurants and breweries. Second Self Beer Company is collaborating with The Farmer Fund to create a different Farmer Fund beer each year as a fundraiser for the nonprofit, brewed with a different Georgia-grown ingredient. This year, they are debuting a Serviceberry Saison, with serviceberries native to Atlanta, picked from local parks by local foragers. The beer will be released for the first time to attendees at the calendar launch party and then will be available at restaurants around the state.
