JAY SOM COMING TO ATLANTA’S AISLE 5 ON DEC 5

Los Angeles-based / Bay area- raised multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Melina Duterte aka Jay Som recently released the critically acclaimed Belong – her first new album in over six years. The record has received praise from NPR, The New York Times, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, The Needle Drop, Alternative Press and Paste Magazine, calling it “one of Jay Som’s strongest works of late.” Next month, she will be heading on tour, playing at Aisle 5 on 12/5.

HAYDEN PEDIGO PLAYS ATLANTA’S MASQUERADE ALTAR ON DEC 3RD

Texas-born and Oklahoma City-based fingerstyle guitarist Hayden Pedigo released his remarkable and genre-defying new album I’ll Be Waving As You Drive Away earlier this year via Mexican Summer, which Pitchfork named as Best New Music. He’s now gearing up for his headline tour and will play Masquerade (Altar) in Atlanta on 12/3.

PALMYRA! HEADING TO TERMINAL WEST IN ATLANTA ON NOVEMBER, 20TH!

Last month, rising Virginia trio Palmyra announced that their debut album Restless will arrive on March 28th via Oh Boy Records. Today, the band returns with the standout track – an on-the-road rambler titled “Arizona.” The track explores the conflict between the pleasure and loneliness one feels on a journey. Of the song, Teddy shares, “Arizona was a moment of joy in a dark, uncertain period of my life. I was roadtripping with my brother through the southwest, driving through national parks and living off of energy drinks, cigarettes, and hot dogs. The car was filled with sand from having to break down our tent during a sandstorm, and it reeked of lighter fluid (my brother left it open and it drenched the backseat). It was a beautiful, brief escape from facing reality, and I never wanted it to end.”

MARVELOUS 3 LIGHT UP CENTER STAGE, OCTOBER 13TH!

On Friday, October 3, 2025, Atlanta’s own Marvelous 3 took the stage at Center Stage Theater for a sold-out hometown show that felt like a long-overdue family reunion. The rock trio, frontman Butch Walker, bassist Jayce Fincher, and drummer Doug “Slug” Mitchell reunited in recent years after a hiatus, and their energy on this night was infectious. From the moment they started, the band radiated happiness, grinning ear-to-ear as they powered through a set packed with classics and newer hits.

SHAKY KNEES 2025 DAY 3: WE’RE NIRVANA

Now that Shaky Knees day three has wrapped, it’s time to reminisce about our favorite moments from the final day of the festival. Our legs hurt, we’ve walked over 13,000 steps each day, and all of it was totally worth it. From seeing Weird Al for the first time to taking a trip down memory lane with Devo, we ended Shaky Knees 2025 on a high note.

SHAKY KNEES 2025 DAY 2: MESS AROUND

With day 2 in the Shaky Knees book, yesterday was a whirl wind of bands and music. We call it the mess around, a nod to my favorite Cage the Elephant Song. We saw as many bands as we could from Radio City Alice to kick it off to Public Enemy to end the night. Here are some of our thoughts on them.

SHAKY KNEES 2025 DAY 1: MONKEYS GONE TO HEAVEN

John and I boarded Marta and took the train down to Piedmont Park for day one of Shaky Knees 2025. For us, today was about getting acquainted with the new venue, perusing all the fun activations, deciding on what merch to purchase, and of course catching all the great bands performing on my birthday! I thank them for making my birthday an epic one.

DEAD PIONEERS AT STATE FARM ARENA ON MAY 1, OPENING FOR PEAL JAM

On May 1, 2025, Denver’s Dead Pioneers brought their punk energy to Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, opening for Pearl Jam in a night that blended rebellion with rock legacy. Picked by Pearl Jam bassist Ament, the indigenous-fronted band, led by Gregg Deal, delivered a performance that was thought-provoking. Though the early crowd was small, those in attendance were treated to a performance that was a discovery. Dead Pioneers’ set was a reminder of punk’s power to inspire, and their selection by Ament underscored their rising status in music.

HELMET AT THE MASQUERADE MAY 12

We saw Helmet at the Masquerade on 5/12/24. Helmet is an alternative metal and rock band out of New York fronted by guitarist and lead singer, Page Hamilton, boasts some early 90s classic rock albums from 1992’s Meantime to 1994’s Betty. Their sound is creatively unique for the time with melodious metal if that can even be a thing, mixed with grunge notes of the time and very distinct repetitive guitar work called drop D tuning

HIGHBALL ATLANTA

On a beautiful autumn weekend in October, Atlanta music lovers descended on the Pullman Yards to be mesmerized and moved by the Futurebirds carefully curated line-up at the first annual Highball Atlanta! Featuring headliners like indie rock gods Band of Horses, indie folk sensations The Head and the Heart, and of course two nights of psychedelic country rockers Futurebirds this was one high energy rock fest!

BIG NIGHT OUT ATLANTA

There is a buzz that lifts through the air as the lights dim on stage, you hear several voices raise in excitement, several clap with enthusiasm, while others stand quietly in anticipation. A small group shuffles through the dark to their instruments as the lights go up and blaze into a prism of blues, greens, and reds. The crowd cannot contain itself and erupts in applause, singing, and joy. The future of live music hangs in the balance on this weekend of performances, because if done right, this could be the norm until we “get back to normal.” And Big Night Out is the path forward. With acts like Moon Taxi, Big Boi and his friends, as well as Futurebirds, and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, we can proudly announce that live music is back AND SAFE.
