THE WHITE BULL TO OPEN MONDAY, MARCH 5

Dishes to Be Made Exclusively with Ingredients from Georgia

Chef Brings Experience From Eric Ripert’s Le Bernadin in NYC & His Own Connecticut Restaurant Bar Sugo

On Monday, March 5, Executive Chef and Partner Pasquale “Pat” Pascarella will open The White Bull, a new restaurant on Decatur’s historic E. Court Square. Serving dinner seven days per week, The White Bull will showcase a thoughtful menu of creative, seasonal fare exclusively from Georgia ingredients.

THE TEAM

Executive Chef and Partner Pat Pascarella will helm the kitchen, drawing expertise from a culinary background that most recently included serving as Executive Chef at Atlanta’s The Optimist and as Executive Chef and Owner of his renowned Italian restaurant Bar Sugo in Norwalk, Connecticut. In 2016, The New York Times awarded Bar Sugo with a much sought-after rating of “Very Good,” calling the restaurant “serious about food that is both fresh and innovative.” Prior, Pat cooked in Manhattan at restaurants including Eric Ripert’s Michelin-starred Le Bernardin.
Born in Italy, Gabriele Besozzi will serve as Partner and General Manager at The White Bull. His restaurant experience includes time working in London, New York, Miami, Atlanta, and all over Italy, including at famed Cantina Bentivoglio in Bologna. Pat Siciliano will serve as Partner and Sous Chef, bringing 12 years of restaurant experience to The White Bull. Cousin to Pat Pascarella, he gained expertise in pizza and pasta-making at Bar Sugo and later served as Executive Chef. He formerly worked at Bella Luna and Saltwater Grille in Stamford, Connecticut, and Cortina Pizzeria in Norwalk, Connecticut. Matt Scott will manage the bar program. From his first job in restaurants, he quickly developed a curiosity and interest in the beverage side of the business. He has developed his expertise during six years working behind the bar.

THE MENU

With a name inspired by literary icon Ernest Hemingway, who referred to the blank page as “the white bull,” the restaurant will showcase a thoughtful menu of simple, farm-forward American fare in an inviting and approachable atmosphere. Ingredients will be sourced entirely from Georgia farmers and purveyors, including Finch Creek Farm, Riverview Farms, Aluma Farm, Stone Mountain Cattle Co., Levity Farm, and more. Guests can expect around 15 seasonal and ever-changing dishes, including pastas made with flour milled at the restaurant and vegetable-forward plates. Upon opening on March 5, The White Bull’s menu will dishes such as Sapelo Island clams with pig tails, kohlrabi, celery, lemon, and toast; tile fish with aji amarillo, daikon, tapioca, and kale; mafalde with guanciale, black pepper, and pecorino; and baby carrots with muhammara, labneh, za’atar, and chicken skin.

The bar program will complement its culinary counterpart by incorporating seasonal, farm-grown ingredients and unique offerings. On the drink menu, guests will find cans of Georgia beer, unique wine selections and creative cocktails, including bottled cocktails for two poured at the table from vintage glass flasks. The bar will open with the dining room on weekdays and early at 3pm on weekends.

THE SPACE

Located on Decatur’s historic square, The White Bull neighbors Brick Store Pub, and beyond its brick exterior is an open and airy gathering space. Natural light filters through wide windows lining the walls, casting a glow throughout a sophisticated dining room just beyond the bar. A long butcher’s table running through the middle of the space will allow servers to finish dishes and drinks, and glass jars filled with seasonal produce and flowers will add color to the dining room. Design elements will include glossy white subway tile, reclaimed wood and details like Edison lightbulbs, copper serveware and eclectic décor reminiscent of Hemingway’s era. At around 2000 square feet, the restaurant will seat around 80 and offers outside dining open to the city square during warmer months. Reservations for the dining room are available through OpenTable here.

SOUTHERN KITCHEN MEET THE MAKER EVENT RECAP

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 3/1/18

On Thursday, February 22nd, over 85 trendy Atlantans descended upon the KOHLER showroom in bustling Buckhead for a special Meet the Makers event.  An exclusive affair presented by Southern Kitchen and KOHLER Signature Store by PDI, guests mixed and mingled, experienced demonstrations, and tasting samples, while enjoying a special evening where entertainment, food, and cocktails came together.  With interactive experiences at every corner, guests were treated to a chef demonstration by Southern Kitchen’s Chef Jeffrey Gardner, delicious bites from Executive Chef Shane McIntosh of Ocean Catering Company, handcrafted cocktails courtesy of Independent Distilling Company, and craft beers from Wild Heaven.

If you make it over to the store, you must try the shower wall and the women’s restroom toilet, which has heated seats, air dry, and much more. Trust us, it’s worth it! Of the food samples from Ocean Catering Company, the BBQ pork sliders were tender and slaw was the right balance of crunch and creaminess. The best passed plate was the chicken and mushroom rangoon. It was rich, savory, and melt in your mouth good! That was followed up by an amazing crunch of the fried dough. Drinks were also on point with a delicious rose, good beer, and amazing cocktails.

PUNCH BOWL SOCIAL ATLANTA OPENING SATURDAY, MARCH 24TH

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 2/26/18

Award-winning “eatertainment” concept featuring Chef Hugh Acheson’s menu,

artfully crafted beverages and social games set to open in The Battery Atlanta

Punch Bowl Social will open the highly-anticipated 25,000-square-foot restaurant, bar, and entertainment destination in The Battery Atlanta on Saturday, March 24, 2018. The award-winning lifestyle brand, recently selected as a Fast Company 2018 Most Innovative Company, pairs made-from-scratch dishes, and craft beverages with social activities such as shuffleboard, ping pong, classic video games, bowling, virtual reality, and skee-ball. Punch Bowl Social Atlanta marks the company’s first property in the Southeastern U.S.

Punch Bowl Social founder and CEO, Robert Thompson, said that Atlanta had been on his radar for quite some time. “Atlanta has a unique mix of urban sophistication and southern charm,” he said. “It has a vitality and welcoming vibe that fits well with the Punch Bowl Social brand. Add in the desirable Battery Atlanta location, proximity to SunTrust Park, and the Atlanta Braves and you couldn’t ask for a more ideal location to call home. We’re thrilled to make our Southeastern debut in Atlanta.”

Punch Bowl Social boldly reverses what has long been the industry standard of “games first” by placing food and drink on equal footing with social activities. This innovative approach has enabled Punch Bowl Social to reinvent the social gaming and dining space, forging an entirely new “eatertainment“ category within the industry. Key components of the award-winning concept include:

Hugh Acheson’s Diner-Inspired Menu

Punch Bowl Social brings to Atlanta its high-integrity culinary program and craveable, diner-inspired menu created by the company’s culinary partner, James Beard Award-winning chef and Top Chef judge, Hugh Acheson. For Acheson, the Atlanta opening is especially meaningful, as he has long called Georgia home.

“I’m excited that Punch Bowl Social is opening its first southern location in Atlanta and look forward to seeing the imprint it makes on the local scene,” Acheson said. “Punch Bowl Social is going to add so much to the Battery, which is quickly becoming the must-visit destination in Atlanta. This will be a great spot to get a bite to eat and enjoy a drink while playing classic video games, skee-ball or bocce ball.”

Acheson’s culinary expertise and unique vision are evident throughout Punch Bowl Social’s menu where visitors will find popular items such as the OMFG GF Southern Fried Chicken, Hugh’s Pimiento Cheese, Lobster Bacon Fries, Lil’ Street Tacos, and It’s Nacho Mama’s roasted cauliflower nachos.

Beverages For All

Rounding out the menu and complementing Acheson’s culinary creations is the brand’s innovative craft beverage program. Drinks at Punch Bowl Social are thoughtfully created to please guests seeking beverages, whether they’re out for a big night or going booze-free. Old school and new school cocktails, beers, and signature, sharable punches are offered alongside non-alchoholic drinks packed with refreshing flavors and herbaceous garnishes, all-natural sodas and fizzes, floats and shakes, and fresh-pressed juices.

Social Activities

Punch Bowl Social Atlanta will feature a bocce court, private karaoke rooms, eight bowling lanes, two outdoor ping pong tables, Bonzini, a custom built 360-degree bar with plenty of televisions for the sports enthusiast, and numerous lounging and gathering spots – for groups both large and small. Additionally, guests at Punch Bowl Social Atlanta will have the opportunity to experience virtual reality games while lounging and enjoying sharable food and drinks. And not to be left out, board game aficionados will find plenty of their favorite classics.

On opening night, Punch Bowl Social is hosting a ticketed party open to the public from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. With proceeds going to The Giving Kitchen, $20 tickets include two full hours of Punch Bowl Social’s diner-inspired fare, craft beverages, access to games, and live music from New Junk City. Tickets can be purchased here for $20.

Architecture & Design

The design of Punch Bowl Social is as much a part of the experience as the food, drinks, and games. Thompson brings his love of architecture and design together to create gathering spaces that meld Mountain Lodge, Victorian, Industrial, and Mid-Century Modern design themes, creating spaces that are welcoming and inviting. Clean line silhouettes overlay warm oversized seating with faux stag heads, and bicycle taxidermy define an unexpected, hip ambiance.

Punch Bowl Social will open to the public at 9:00 pm on Saturday, March 24th following a ticketed party earlier in the evening.
