THE ODDITIES AND CURIOSITIES EXPO RETURNS TO ATLANTA

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 1/30/22

Enjoy a showcase of all things weird.

Saturday, February 19th!

AmericasMart

One-part horror convention and one-part dark arts – The Oddities and Curiosities Expo featuring over 150 local and national vendors and will visit Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, February 19. Tickets start at $10 and can be purchased at https://odditiesandcuriositiesexpo.com/tickets

Attendees can expect to see vendors and small businesses showcasing taxidermy, preserved animal specimens, original horror and Halloween-inspired artwork, antiques, handcrafted oddities, quack medical devices, creepy clothing, odd jewelry, skulls, bones, and funeral collectibles.

“The Oddities and Curiosities Expo was created purely out of the excitement of bringing communities we care about together through events,” said Michelle Cozzaglio, who owns the expo with her husband, Tony. “Honestly, we had no idea it would turn into what it has today! Our goal has always been to uplift those around us while giving everyone, including ourselves, the opportunity to truly do what they love.”

The Cozzaglios have been taking The Oddities and Curiosities Expo on the road from coast to coast for the past five years after observing there was a market for this type of large scale event. Long-time collectors of oddities and obscure memorabilia themselves, the pair also own a record store and screen printing business, and operate punk festivals across the country.

In addition to visiting the showroom floor, guests of The Oddities and Curiosities Expo are able to purchase tickets to a day-long taxidermy class where they can learn to make their own two headed duckling mount. Participants will work with frozen animals to learn the basics of taxidermy.

The O&C Expo also hosts Rainy Day Revival and their Museum of Marvelous Mutations, a 1600 square foot carnival sideshow reminiscent of big top attractions of the early 1900’s. For an additional $7 ($5 advance), guests can experience “The World’s Largest Traveling Freak Show” and meet Simon the Cyclops Lamb and Beefcake the Bulldog Calf.

It is important to note: All animals in the taxidermy class and other parts of the show – like preserved specimens – are sourced ethically and died of natural causes.

The Blind Pig Parlour Bar is transforming into The Blind Cupid on Jan. 19 through the end of February. This new pop-up experience adds Valentine’s Day-themed sizzle to the winter doldrums with a fiery menu of drinks, decadent menu snacks and over-the-top pink and floral décor that will have guests falling in love at first sight.

The Buckhead speakeasy, long known for its intimate, sophisticated vibe and the popular The Blind Elf pop-up during the holidays, is restyling its Victorian-era decor to lure both hopeless romantics and the lovelorn alike. The Blind Cupid offers guests the perfect place to combat winter blues, whether they are searching for an entertaining girls’ night out, Galentine’s Day celebration or a unique date night.

Drinks include favorites from The Blind Pig libation menu as well as some festive new concoctions:

  • Lip Service: Old Forester rye, E&J brandy, Cardamaro, Benedictine, Angostura and Peychaud’s bitters
  • Always Be My Maybe: Strawberry-infused Bare Bone vodka, Pimm’s gin, lemon and Domaine de Canton topped with Zardetto prosecco
  • Swipe Right: ASW Fiddler bourbon, pineapple, lemon and egg whites
  • Some Like It Caliente: Cognac, spiced chocolate and candied ginger whipped cream
  • Pink Halo: Bare Bone vodka, strawberry, elderflower and lime
  • Coup de Foudre: Prosecco, raspberry and mint
  • Oaxacan on Sunshine: Herradura Silver tequila, citrus, honey serrano, turmeric and guava
  • Love You a Latte: Cold brew, Southern Comfort, The Irishman Irish cream and hazelnut

Savory and sweet bites will be on the menu, including a lively mix of cheeses, sliced cured meats and unique house-prepared accompaniments such as dried fruits and toasted seeded crackers. The Blind Cupid will also serve a decadent dessert selection.

The Blind Cupid will be open for a brief fling Wednesday-Saturday beginning Jan. 19 through the end of February from 6 p.m. until late. The Blind Cupid also will be open on Monday, Feb. 14 for Valentine’s Day. Reservations are strongly recommended and the festive venue may be reserved for small parties and special events any day of the week.

Two Celebrations Featuring an Anniversary Collaboration Beer With Sceptre Brewing Arts, Food, and Giveaways

Monday, January 24th at 6 p.m. and Saturday, January 29th at 12 p.m.
Hot-diggity-dog! Red’s Beer Garden is celebrating two years of bringing people together in with great food, beers from around the world, wine, cider, hard seltzers and more. To honor the occasion, not only are owners Kristen “Red” Sumpter and Ed Sumpter going to reveal their anniversary collaboration beer, Neon Suds, with Sceptre Brewing Art, but the duo is hosting two celebrations in their expansive, dog-friendly beer garden. On Monday, January 24th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Red’s Anniversary Dinner will feature all-you-can-eat pulled pork, local sausage, smoked mac and cheese, house baked beans, potato salad, and a green salad for $35 per person. Diners will also receive a commemorative pint glass and a 20 oz. pour of Neon Suds. Tickets are $35 per person and available at www.redsbeergarden.com.

Saturday, January 29th marks the official release of Neon Suds, the limited edition, collaboration beer with Spectre Brewing. With its name inspired by the giant rainbow in front of the go-to haunt and eccentric car wash to the left, beer lovers can expect a tasty dry hopped pilsner with loral hops. From 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., revelers are invited to toast to Red’s true love, beer. For that day only, Red’s will have a special draft list along with a diverse selection of unique bottles and cans in the self-serving coolers. For every beer purchased, guests will receive a raffle ticket for their chance to win prizes every hour. Red’s full food menu featuring signature hot dogs, sandwiches and snacks will also be available. The all day celebration is free to attend.
Open safely and responsibly for outside dining in the expansive, dog-friendly beer garden and for to-go, Red’s Beer Garden is conveniently located in Benteen Park between Grant Park and East Atlanta at 1328 Boulevard SE, Atlanta, GA 30315.
