SUMMER AT CALLAWAY 2025

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 7/28/25

From Friday night Hawaiian luau to a beach day at Robin Lake Beach to exploring the gardens in a golf cart to self-care at the spa. This is your ultimate Summer at Callaway weekend itinerary.

Friday Night Hawaiian Luau

Say aloha to summer at Callaway by attending the new Friday Night Luau! They have a delicious Polynesian buffet that includes a smoky, rich and meaty whole hog that’s so tender, a tuna poke and all the fixings from lettuce to dressings and more. Plus, grilled mahi with mangos and peppers to go over the pineapple Hawaiian fried rice! Don’t miss the creamy hearty macaroni and potato salad and I mixed it with the pineapple coleslaw for best bite! On top of that their Huli Huli chicken is so tender and flavorful, load up on coconut shrimp, and pile on the Polynesian style veggies. For dessert enjoy one of their sweet and tangy pineapple upside down cakes, silky creamy coconut pudding, or a piece of cake!

To drink, you’ll get a welcome Mai-tai that’s sweet and fruity and topped with dark Myers rum for an extra kick and then go back for one of their sweet smoking volcano cocktails with boba!

Fill up and then enjoy Malhealani’s Polynesian entertainment! It includes exploring different dances from all of Polynesian islands from New Zealand to Samoa to Hawaii. As well as the Hula is performed and you’re asked to join in and learn it, and Blue Hawaiian is performed (Elvis classic). My favorite part, though, is the fire dance with one and two firesticks. The two fire sticks was the perfect finale.

Wake up to relaxation on the spa

When the only thing on your agenda is relaxation, you’re at the Spa at Callaway. This is a must do during your Summer at Callaway list because you deserve a little relaxation among all the noise this summer. Right?

For my session, I booked the new salt room! I’ve been hearing how it works miracles (when done regularly) for skin and hair and who doesn’t need glowing skin? It was super relaxing. The room had salt on the ground and in the air for maximum exposure. They gave me a weighted hot eye mask and hot neck warmer, and blanket and I literally lost myself to sleep. It really was the best start to the day!

In the women’s lounge with a treatment, you can enjoy the quiet room, which was gorgeously tranquil with glowing candles and soft music. They have a sauna and steam room to enjoy, hot tea, and snacks, as well for a full morning of pampering.

Spend the late morning and early afternoon golf carting around the gardens

The golf carting adventure we had was the best adventure you can have this summer at Callaway! We picked up our golf cart when we arrived and didn’t stop using it all weekend! It’s so much fun with the open air, go at your pace, and all the friendly golf cart waves from other golf carts! Here is your most see itinerary.

  • Find new trails all along the gardens like the Azalea or the Azalea bowl and get a good walk in.
  • Near the overlook we found Callaway Outdoors next to the golf course AND in the lake next to it is where you can find a beautiful fishing spot or take out a canoe onto the lake! Can you find it? It is hidden!
  • The drive between the overlook and azalea bowl is relaxing and beautiful. Once at the Azalea bow, walk to the bridge and waterfall!
  • We’ve been to the Discovery Center many times, you can get educated on birds and see a birds of prey show, but this time the Treetop Adventure was open for us to watch people amongst the trees and then zip line! If you’re brave enough, you could do the treetop yourself.
  • One of my favorite, most relaxing spots is the chapel. Stained glass and wood intertwine! And on Saturday and Sunday 1-3 they have a drop by organ concert!
  • End up at the Butterfly Center to find all the exotic (and local) butterflies! It is like being on a topical island! And they have turtles, tours, and education if you want to learn!

If you don’t get to it all in one day, you can go back before checking on the next morning!

Spend the afternoon until Dinner at Robin Lake Beach

Only a few steps from the lodge, Robin Lake Beach is the perfect way to wind down for the afternoon. Here is the Robin Lake Beach day essentials:

  • First things first, you need shade for those hot days, so they make it easy to rent a pair of chairs and an umbrella, a group of chairs and umbrellas. Or you could just go all out and spring for one of their posh cabanas! They’re so nice, they have a TV! And even a fan!!
  • Beat the heat in the water!
  • Through Labor Day, enjoy Aqua Island: An inflatable island with mountains to monkey bars out in the lake!
  • Paddle board or pedal boat for a great way to see the lake.
  • With admission or overnight guests, there is a free mini-golf course for you to score a hole in one!
  • Feeling hungry? Grab a bite from the pavilion, they have the best waffle fries!!
  • And you’ll need a bevy to go with those fries! They have a full bar, water, and more at the new Lake View bar overlooking Robin Lake Beach!
  • Fun until the sun goes down. (or 7pm). If you go to the left side of the lake, you can watch the sunset over the trees!

AUTHORS, COMIC CREATORS, SCIENTISTS, AND MAGICIANS IGNITE CREATIVITY AND FUEL FANDOM AT DRAGON CON

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 7/25/25

Dragon Con, Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy, sci-fi, and gaming convention, is a hub for creators, experts, and thought leaders from a wide range of fields who help fans explore their interests.

While the convention’s celebrity guests get immediate notice, only about a quarter of Dragon Con’s roster of guests come from television and movies. The majority of convention guests are storytellers, artists, scientists, and other experts in fields like science, space exploration, digital rights, and more.

“Our authors, comic creators, and experts don’t just help fans understand the world — they make sure no one leaves without having their minds at least slightly blown,” convention co-chair Rachel Reeves said. “Whether they’re diving into speculative fiction or tackling real-world topics like science, space, civil rights, or skepticism, we bring in sharp minds who can break down big ideas and make it fun.”

Dragon Con’s 2025 convention runs from Thursday, Aug. 28 to Monday, Sept. 1 with events and activities across five host hotels – Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree, and Courtland Grand Hotel – and AmericasMart Buildings #2 and #3.

Reporters from any outlet approved to cover Dragon Con are invited to seek interviews with artists, authors, and other creators and experts who are attending the convention – not just those listed below, but any guest or attending professional.  For more information, please contact interviews@dragoncon.org.

DULCÉ SLOAN HEADLINING FIVE-SHOW SET AT LAUGHING SKULL LOUNGE JULY 24-26

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 7/21/25

Acclaimed Comedian Returning to Venue that Launched Her Career

After making a splash in Los Angeles and beyond, Dulcé Sloan will bring her stand-up comedy talent home to Atlanta with a three-day stop at Laughing Skull Lounge over July 24-26.

These shows are a return to Sloan’s roots, as she spent much of her childhood in Atlanta, performed her debut show at Laughing Skull Lounge in 2009, and became a resident comedian at the venue.

Her star continued to rise in Atlanta’s comedy scene, but her big break was in 2015 when she was named one of comedy’s Best New Faces at Montreal’s Just for Laughs comedy festival and won the “StandUp NBC” showcase.

Sloan then went on to appear on “Conan” and “The Steve Harvey Show” and became a correspondent on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” in 2017. In 2019, she headlined her own Comedy Central special that was named one of the best comedies of 2019 by The New York Times.

“We gave her a lot of love here, and she’s gone on to do incredible things. We’re proud that she used to perform at our stage before she had so much success,” says Bob Place, general manager of Laughing Skull Lounge.

Now Sloan is looking forward to sharing new material with her hometown crowd. “I am very excited to be back at the Laughing Skull and look forward to sharing my new hour with them,” says Sloan. “It’s the most personal hour I have ever written.”

Tickets for Sloan’s shows range from $35-$45 and are available to purchase at laughingskulllounge.com. The Thursday show is at 8 p.m., and the Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Summer’s in session, and Puttshack is teeing up its most exciting seasonal campaign yet. “Game On Summer,” running June through August at Puttshack Atlanta and Dunwoody, is packed with weekday deals, buzzy cocktails, daily sweepstakes entries, and new ways to play including unlimited mini golf every Sunday.

Whether you’re swinging by for an after-work round or meeting up with friends, Puttshack is rolling out the red carpet Monday through Friday with exciting new offers designed to keep the summer vibes strong all week long.

WIN-WIN WEEKDAYS
Weekdays are officially on par with the weekend thanks to Puttshack’s expanded lineup of weekday perks. Guests can now enjoy Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3–6pm, along with weekday-exclusive offers running all the way through Friday. Plus, every game played during the week automatically counts as an entry into the brand’s Summer Sweepstakes. To be eligible, guests just need to register for Puttshack Perks and sign in when they book or check in.

SUMMER SWEEPSTAKES
This summer, every game could bring more than just bragging rights. Puttshack’s Summer Sweepstakes is giving away weekly prizes and a high-stakes grand prize. One lucky guest each week will win a year of mini golf, and one grand prize winner will score the Ultimate Summer Prize Pack, featuring crowd-favorite summer gear like Yeti Coolers, JBL speakers, and Ray-Ban sunglasses. All weekday games count as entries for Perks members, with additional entry methods available via mail-in participation.

SUNDAY SPECIAL: ALL YOU CAN PUTT
Sundays now come with unlimited bragging rights. For the first time, Puttshack is offering an “All You Can Putt” special, giving guests the opportunity to play unlimited mini golf all day for one flat price. Whether you’re in for a quick game or want to dominate the leaderboard with back-to-back rounds, this Sunday-only offer is available at all to book online or in venue for both Seaport and Natick.

LTO SUMMER COCKTAILS + COURSE SIPS
The drink menu is also getting a sunny refresh with limited-time summer specials. Two oversized cocktails, The Big Spritz and Mai Tai For Two, are designed for sharing and perfect for group hangouts. For quick toasts between holes, guests can grab $5 Supertube Shots in Pineapple Patrón and Yuzu Goose flavors, served in fun LED-lit holders right on the course. These drinks add a fun, high-energy twist to the evening hours and make every round feel like a party.

BOOK YOUR SUMMER GROUP OUTING
Puttshack is also making it easier than ever for small groups to plan their summer outings. Groups of 13–18 can now book directly online, perfect for spontaneous gatherings, summer birthdays, or team bonding events that break the mold.
