CLOUDLAND AT MCLEMORE GETAWAY WEEKEND

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 11/24/25

Come stay amongst the clouds at this lavish North Georgia Resort: Cloudland at McLemore! Recently, John and I escaped to the north Georgia mountains and were stunned by what we found there! About 2 hours north of Atlanta and situated on the brow of Lookout Mountain, John and I found Cloudland at McLemore to be a master class in elevated comfort, premium accommodations, white-glove service, and a pinnacle of resorts! But what stunned us most were the majestic mountain views from every window, even our room! It was a delight, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!

The Resort

In the lobby you’re greeted by large wooden doors, opened for you, and walk into glass walls that show the mountain views right away! To the left is the reception area, the right is the beautiful library with sitting area and fireplace. It is stuffed with books for your enjoyment. In front of you is the den common area downstairs. It is lavish couches and intimate seating areas with a beautiful fireplace and a gorgeous topographical mural of the mountain. Outside you sit and watch the sunset from Adirondack chairs or fire pits areas during the day, for sunset, or at night!

And in the rooms, you’re in for a treat. These rooms are done to the nines. Marble and white subway tile spacious bathrooms, while wood and dark colors create a sense of calm in the bedroom area. A small seating area for gazing out the window at the best feature of the room, the views! You can see the entire pool area, outside bar, and the brow from there!

Experiences

Beyond the resort, Cloudland at McLemore has exquisite experiences. John and I did not know just how much there is to do in this mountain oasis! From restaurants options to an upscale spa to world-class golf to an epic Infiniti pool, and of course the best amenity: the mountain views are stunning.

As far as the experiences, we enjoyed a wine tasting, Magic of Napa Valley, a wine tasting with the Napa Valley collective. Small, unique wineries from Napa with excellent wines! Included were Impensata with a crisp sav Blanc, Allora Vineyards with my favorite, a sparkling brut, Zakin Wines with a bright Chardonnay, Parallel Wines with a floral rose, and St Helena Winery with a fantastic Chardonnay! Upcoming they have events for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

And Cloudland at McLemore has so many other amenities! It would not be a weekend at Cloudland without a soak in the beautifully heated Infiniti pool overlooking the brow or lounging by it. Nothing really beats peering over the pool edge into the views of the mountain. Plus, if golf is your thing, they have an award winning public golf course that you have to try! Plus, driving range and their small course is included in the stay. Did we mention the golf course even has its own view? If you need relaxation, they have a calm, inviting, upscale spa for you to relax.

Dining Options

One of the best amenities that Cloudland at McLemore is their dining options. Starting with Croft, a casual spot for Scottish fare. They have a delicious, tasty Cloudland deviled egg dish that I thoroughly enjoyed. John got the divine thick cut bacon, perfectly candied and spiced up with jalapenos. We loved they had two large projector TVs for the big game and a large bar!

Another casual spot is The Pocket Cafe, quick casual bites from pastries like croissants to bowls and salads. I really enjoyed their quinoa salad bowl. Next, if you prefer to dine on the brow, Skyside is your casual spot. Weather permitting, they have tiki drinks, spritzes, and a small food menu with handhelds, salads, and more.

Up at the golf clubhouse is the beautiful rustic, The Craeg. Outside they have patio seating to watch the golfers on the course and to take in the views. Inside, they have a great cocktail menu where I got a fantastic, boozy Manhattan.

Finally, last but not least of the dining options, is my favorite of them all, Alud Alliance. It is the best dinner and date night spot with views and upscale French country cuisine. To start, we tried the stuffed quail and were so glad we got it! It is tender, smoked quail, glazed with maple, then stuffed with earthy and creamy butternut squash with all the fall flavors. It is a top a heap of thick cut bacon. I paired this the Castle & Key Martini, a boozy vodka martin with a twist of lemon.

For dinner we decided to split the wood-grilled, dry-aged pork chop, which is cooked to perfection, tender, and juicy. It has a wonderful, tangy, tangy, apple butter underneath. We got the heirloom carrots on the side and found them amazing. Sweet and earthy, crunchy carrots with a decadent brown sugar and a creamy yogurt labneh. Finally, we also enjoyed the crunchy fried potato wedges, a crunchy wedge potato and perfectly paired with rosemary and olive oil. I paired dinner with an old-fashioned boasting with sweet, smooth scotch, sweet walnut bitters, smoke, and charred rosemary.

Festive llamas, a dancing Santa, family-friendly activities and more will once again kick off the holiday season at Uptown Atlanta, the mixed-use destination located between Midtown and Buckhead. On Nov. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m., the community is invited to experience the fifth annual “Laughs, Llamas and Pajamas” event, hosted on Uptown’s activated Main Street. The event is free to attend.

Beginning at 6 p.m., guests can begin interacting with a herd of friendly, pajama-wearing llamas from Wits End Llama Consortium. Attendees will spend time and capture photo-worthy moments with the llamas while taking advantage of Uptown’s newly opened retail and restaurants. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite cozy pajamas to meet and greet the llamas. For even more festive spirit, Funky Santa will take the stage for a hilarious, Jingle Jam dance party. During the event, kids can enjoy crafting their own mini-llama holiday ornaments.

As is tradition, attendees are encouraged to support local nonprofit Atlanta Mission by donating pairs of new youth and adult pajamas at the event. Atlanta Mission is a homeless shelter serving more than 1,000 men, women and children across Atlanta and Northeast Georgia, and since the event’s inception, the community has donated hundreds of pairs of pajamas.

“Uptown has come to life with new retailers and restaurants and we’re thrilled to celebrate this momentum by inviting the community to experience this beloved tradition,” said Bernard Lee, general manager for Rubenstein. “This event is not only an exciting celebration of the start of the holiday season, but is also a meaningful way to give back to those in need by supporting the impactful work of Atlanta Mission.”

Convenient event parking is located at the Uptown City Center Deck. Parking will cost $5 for the first two hours. In addition, Main Street at Uptown is just steps away from the Lindbergh MARTA station.

Uptown encompasses nearly 1 million square feet of office space, 110,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and a variety of community gathering spaces. Sugarcoat, the award-winning nail and beauty salon, is now open in addition to several retailers and restaurants, including White Windmill, the popular bakery and coffee shop that blends French baking with Korean flavors; Madre Selva, a vibrant Latin-Coastal restaurant; El Gordo, an authentic taqueria; Bene Korean, an upscale Korean barbeque; J’ouvert Caribbean Kitchen, a street food and brunch restaurant; Roundhouse Kickboxing, a dynamic fitness studio; The Commodore, a retro barbershop; and Fly on a Wall, an Atlanta-based arts platform and studio. The new restaurants and retail join 26 Thai Kitchen and Bar and Chow À La Carte at Uptown Test Kitchen, a novel culinary experience designed to bring the community and local chefs from around the world together.

YEPPA BELTLINE UNVEILS YEPPA 69 LODGE, A RETRO APRÈS-SKI WINTER ON THE BELTLINE

An Italian-by-Way-of-Atlanta Alpine Escape Complete With Fire Pits, Snowfall, Seasonal Cocktails, and Vintage Ski Culture Energy

With the holiday season in full swing, Yeppa BeltLine has embraced winter with the debut of Yeppa 69 Lodge, an après-ski–inspired takeover that turns its BeltLine patio into a snow-dusted, mountain-chalet playground. Open now through the Winter Games in Milan, the lodge brings glimmering tree lights, wood-burning fire pits, and a cold-weather cocktail program rooted in the spirit of seventies and eighties après culture—infused with the easy warmth of Emilia-Romagna and Atlanta’s unmistakable energy. And on Friday nights, the lodge shifts into a full “snow storm,” complete with swirling snowfall, a DJ beneath the lights, and champagne that inevitably becomes part of the evening.

In typical Yeppa fashion, Fridays heighten everything. As evening settles in, snowfall drifts across the patio, the music climbs, fire pits blaze, and the lodge takes on a celebratory, après-after-hours rhythm. Winter cocktails anchor the moment, shot-skis make unexpected appearances, and the snow gives the night a sense of escape—half snow day, half Italian house party. “The snow storm is coming. Shelter in place at Yeppa 69 Lodge, located on the BeltLine,” the team teases. It’s Alps-meets-Atlanta in a way that feels both transportive and perfectly of the moment.

The seasonal lodge builds on the identity Yeppa BeltLine has been shaping since opening in May. Though new, the restaurant already feels woven into this stretch of the city, carrying forward the spirited world introduced at its Buckhead sibling. Inspired by the conviviality of Romagna, Yeppa BeltLine celebrates clinking glasses, open-armed hospitality, and food designed to be shared among friends. Indoors, curved lines and breezy details nod to the Italian seaside; outdoors, the patio remains the heart of the space—vibrant, communal, and always shifting with the BeltLine’s energy.

The kitchen continues to anchor the experience with house-made pastas, focaccia pizzas, seafood, spiedini, and Italian comfort dishes that lean into warmth without losing elegance. The approach remains hands-in-the-dough, personality-driven, and rooted in the joy of eating in Romagna. In summer, that shows up in breezy plates and bright drinks; in winter, in heartier dishes and the pleasure of gathering near the fire. No matter the season, the table grows, the stories stretch, and of course the mood stays unmistakably Yeppa.

Yeppa BeltLine is located at 667 Auburn Ave, Suite 120, on the Eastside Trail where Inman Park and Old Fourth Ward meet. Guests are welcomed Tuesday through Sunday, with dinner service during the week, late nights on Fridays and Saturdays, and weekend brunch that rolls easily into evening. For seasonal updates, winter announcements, and a closer look at Yeppa 69 Lodge, visit www.yeppaco.com/beltline and follow @YeppaCoATL on Instagram.

Holiday Letter Drop to Santa Arrives at Yeppa BeltLine Thanksgiving Weekend

Open daily through Christmas Eve, the drop-off invites kids—and adults who still enjoy the ritual—to pause along the BeltLine and slip their holiday wish lists inside.Anyone looking to extend the holiday feel can move into Yeppa 69 Lodge, the BeltLine’s seasonal alpine-inspired activation open through the Winter Games in Milan, complete with firelight, winter cocktails, and a retro après-ski atmosphere. Needle Drop to Midnight at Westside Motor Lounge

When New Year’s Eve rolls around, Westside Motor Lounge turns the dial all the way up with a day-to-night celebration rooted in rhythm. On Wednesday, December 31, festivities begin at 12 p.m. with a Widespread Panic Pre-Party hosted by Moontime Market, featuring live performances from the Sam Holt Band and Cameron Williams. As night falls, the energy shifts into a jam like no other as two Atlanta mainstays, Come Together and House In The Park, join forces for a New Year’s Eve bash spanning genres, generations, and two rooms of music. In The Echo Room, Come Together founders DJ Kemit and Salah Ananse take over with all-vinyl sets moving seamlessly through soul, funk, classic hip-hop, house, Latin sounds, and Afrobeats. Over in Idlewild, House In The Park residents Kai Alcé and Ramon Rawsoul deliver deep, soulful selections of house, disco, and Afro rhythms. Inspired by Atlanta’s most cherished dance floors and parties of the past, the night leans into connection over curation—no pretension, just DJs who know how to guide a room and let the music do the talking. Craft cocktails flow, moments are captured at the AFROTOPIA NYE Photo Booth, and a champagne toast at midnight marks the turn of the year. The Widespread Panic Pre-Party is free and open to the public. Tickets for the New Year’s Eve night event are $35 in advance and $45 at the door before 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here. MACON IS WHERE LEGENDS LIVE

Posted by Liz and John, 11/11/25

Macon, Georgia is where legends live. Being only 1.5 hours from our house in North Metro Atlanta, it is an easy weekend getaway! From Macon’s deep roots in the national music scene, to local downtown bars, restaurants, nightlife, and historical attractions steeped in history, Macon has it all. That’s why we fell in love with it. Find out where to stay, what to eat and drink, and what to do when you visit.

Where to Stay:

Hotel Forty-Five

Hotel Forty-Five is where legends lay their heads. We stayed at the Hotel Forty-Five again on this trip and loved every minute of it! The hotel was originally built by Hay as Macon’s original skyscraper! He was one of the most prominent men in Macon and built it for his insurance company. The original floor and elevators still exist in the lobby! The hotel embodies the music soul of the city. From greats like Otis Redding to Allman Brothers have roots here, museums, and Capricorn Studios is still recording to this day!

The homage to music at the hotel is everywhere from the Allmand Brother’s plaques at the elevators to knock backs and books in the lobby. The lobby is cool and circular, and then the elevator area is still decorated like an insurance company with original elevator doors and art deco flooring! The rooms are spacious and comfortable. It has modern yet art deco decor, stunning Macon downtown mural, comfy bed, stunning center light, and marbled bathroom. Plus, love the downtown views!

Food and drink on site are top notch starting with their rooftop bar. Hightales is located on the 6th floor with epic views of downtown! Churches and building, and even the Macon Auditorium. They serve up delicious hand-crafted cocktails like an Old Fashioned, but a play on a classic with tequila! Downstairs in the lobby is the beautiful Loom restaurant! Really enjoyed the smoky, creamy smoked fish dip, the old fashioned made with their own bourbon, and the sensational juicy steak for an entree. Our full food review below in where to eat and drink in Macon.

Macon’s is All About Music

It is where legends are made! When we were in Macon, something that really struck a chord with us is how in tune Macon is with music. Being huge music lovers, we wanted to put together a list of music related things to do in Macon for you to save for an upcoming stay! Did you know legends like Allman Brothers and Otis Redding lived and created hits in Macon?

Here is our curated itinerary for the music lover:

📍 Allman Brothers Big House & Museum: the place where the brothers and their band lived, performed, and created some of their biggest hits. Travel through the band’s history, memorabilia, clothing, and their equipment! Go upstairs to see how they lived and some cool memorabilia they left behind.

📍 Rose Hill Cemetery. Grab a map from the Big House and explore where the brothers rest. Ring the bell in honor of their late mother, Mama Carolyn.

📍 Capricorn Records. Originally purchased by Otis Redding as his recording studio, he passed before it was finished and it finally became Capricorn Records. The tour takes you on a journey from new recording spots and then all the way back in time to the original studio where Allman brothers and Marshall Tucker recorded back in the day. It is original and looks the same today! Did you know guitarists play in another room and mixed into the music after?? Plus, they have a museum and a catalog of all their music you can listen to upstairs!

📍 Otis Redding Museum. No video or photos allowed. Take a walk through Otis Redding’s life! It is packed with treasures and memorabilia for the king of soul.

📍 Fresh Produce: downtown Macon’s go-to spot for music, vinyl, and more!

📍 Grant’s Lounge: still open for nightly music has been around since the 70s and is a historical music landmark. In the early days, bands would come and play in hopes to get signed by Capricorn. We saw blues legend Robert Coleman the night we went!

📍 Hummingbirds: music joint with live music! We saw Hung Jury when we visited.

Historical Tours: Hay House, “Palace of the South”

We went right before Halloween so we went to Legends and Lore at night, but the Hay House has a daily tour during the day you can do! We stepped into the world of chilling tales in one of the most opulent mansions I’ve ever seen! The Johnstons built the house in The Johnstons built the house in 1851 who traveled Europe for 3 years and brought Italian design to it. There are rounded pocket doors, stained glass, ballrooms and lavish dining rooms, state of the art air and communication for the time and even an elevator.

You’ll tour the kitchen, pantry, and area where the help would have worked. The main floor is stunning with formal dining room, ballroom, and siting rooms. The third floor is where the family lived, bedrooms, and bathrooms, even a secret room! This house was handed down to the Felton’s and then sold to Hay. There is a really cool spire at the top where you go up a spiral staircase to see a view from 7 flight up! Yes, it is that tall!

Where to eat and drink in Macon, GA

GA is where legends eat (and drink) well! While we were in Macon, GA, we had some delicious adventures at several restaurants, bars, and more.

Here are our recommendations:

Macon Bagels is a must try for your morning bagel fix. I got the scrumptious The Champ loaded with crunchy bacon, creamy avocado, tomato and a divine caramelized onion cream cheese on a garlic bagel! They also serve coffee and other morning musts!

H&H Restaurant is an institution! The Allman Brothers ate here frequently and became fast friends with the place! I got the Midnight Rider biscuit from the brunch menu a buttery, flaky biscuit piled with crunchy, tender fried chicken, sweet bacon jam, and creamy pimento cheese. Got a side of delicious, creamy, well-seasoned deviled eggs! John got an egg and bacon biscuit! They also have meat and 3 or lunch options as well!

Yollah for brunch! I’d been for a burger there once and loved it so had to try their brunch! Here are a few things I love from Yollah. Starting with their breakfast empanada that is crispy outside and filled with creamy potatoes, egg and cheese, spicy chorizo. You must try the perfectly spiced and gooey, Tres Leches Cinnamon Roll. It can’t get over the Tres Leches icing. If savory is your thing, opt for the breakfast skillet. Filled with hearty potatoes, spicy chorizo, creamy queso, runny egg and cheese, topped with pico, it is delicious. Finally, the Avocado Toast is a thick buttery bread with creamy avocado, pickled onions, tangy pico de gallo, and runny egg.

Rookery is a well-known burger joint downtown! It was established in 1976 and has been serving burgers to locals for years! I got the fantastic Walden Greenback burger loaded with a crunchy fried green tomato, tangy green onion, thick applewood cut bacon, cheese, and an earthy creamy sun-dried tomato remoulade. I paired it with house made onion rings! John just got a regular cheeseburger and fries.

Another dinner spot is Loom in the Hotel Forty-Five.  Starting with their epic Smoked Trout Dip. Toasty and herbed crunchy bread, creamy, dill forward trout dip, sweet peppers, and olives all culminate in a great bite. Steak lovers will love their steak! Perfectly cooked steak with a rich Demi glaze and tasty wedge potatoes sure with garlic and herbs, tangy yet sweet caramelized onions. Also enjoyed the Catch of the day, a lemon pepper rubbed, flaky cobia fish. Served with bright and tart lemon thyme vinaigrette with a delicious white bean puree and a ton of earthy veggies. The favorite of the cocktails is Old Fashioned. They curate their own bourbon for this cocktail, and it is boozy, sweet, and citrusy.

No Macon trip would be complete without a visit to Monkey’s Paw Tiki bar! We stumbled on them last time we were in town and had to go back! Their tiki drinks are top notch, full show, tiki mugs and all! We get mai tais and painkillers!
