With acts like Weezer and Foo Fighters, this year's Shaky Knees spoke to my Gen X heart. Here's our day one recap with our favorite new bands, artist moments, and everything in between.

 Mellow Mushroom – the stone-baked pizza brand with 160+ locations nationwide – celebrates 50 years of business this year and is set to mark the golden anniversary with a kaleidoscope of celebratory events across locations from May 14 to November 2024.

Today, the Atlanta Braves unveiled the Taste of Truist Park & The Battery Atlanta food tours, a guided ballpark and culinary tour for baseball enthusiasts and food lovers. The tour will lead off with a Terrapin beer and a soft pretzel in the Truist Park Press Box. This will be followed by a trip to the Braves dugout to sample Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q. Continuing into The Battery Atlanta, the tour will feature stops at ASW Distillery, Mac McGee’s Irish Pub, and El Super Pan, ending with a classic Southern treat at River Street Sweets. April 18th is the first one.

Barnsley Resort, where John and I can Escape Together! ️ Just a little over an hour North of our Atlanta home, John and I spent Valentine’s weekend enjoying Barnsley Resort and each other. You feel so far away here from the city but are so close! Everything from the stunning Manor House Ruins and garden, tree-covered walkways, cute and cozy cottages, immersive historical tours, lovely dining options, golf, activities, and so much more, Barnsley Resort has something for everyone.

Regarded by many as one of America’s best independent music venues, The Masquerade has stood the test of time, first at the historic DuPre Excelsior Mill on North Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward, opening in September 1989. The venue’s stages- Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory, have hosted a litany of alternative music royalty. Acts like Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Fugazi, and The Refused have all flexed the floorboards, whipping fans into a frenzy. During the same period, on its grounds, The Masquerade has been the home to the first ever Warped Tour, One Music Fest, Shaky Knees Music Festival, Imagine Music Festival, and the first two editions of The Wrecking Ball ATL. Any given night, fans can find rock, alternative, indie, electronic, metal, punk, hip hop, and more live and ready for consumption. 

Glenn Hotel Atlanta, where there is a lion in every southern heart.  This stunning, ornate boutique hotel began as a 1920s landmark that is “guarded” by 39 lions atop the building. To pay homage, lion artwork is prevalent throughout the entire space from the lobby, in the elevator, and even in the rooms! Warm, inviting, casual yet charming, opulent, manicured while lavish, The Glenn Hotel is an oasis in the heart of downtown and where everyone is welcome. It’s the perfect place for a vacation, staycation, or even a weekender! As the elevator says when you get to the 10th floor, “wow!” 

On a beautiful autumn weekend in October, Atlanta music lovers descended on the Pullman Yards to be mesmerized and moved by the Futurebirds carefully curated line-up at the first annual Highball Atlanta! Featuring headliners like indie rock gods Band of Horses, indie folk sensations The Head and the Heart, and of course two nights of psychedelic country rockers Futurebirds this was one high energy rock fest! 

Fall is the best time to head to the mountains. Being only 4.5 hours from Atlanta, we traveled up to Awe inspiring Boone, NC. It was a blustery, clear weekend and the rolling hills and mountains were changing to red, orange, and brown all around us. Plus, the temperature was brisk just like you’d want it on a mountain weekend getaway. Beyond the beautiful views and weather, Boone boasts a lively downtown, all types of food and brew options, stellar hotel accommodations, as well as a skiing destination in the winter. Some of our favorite places that we will explore are the Graystone Lodge just 3 miles from downtown, Lost Provience downtown and Hardin Creek just outside town, Boonshine, Dan’l Boone Inn & Restaurant, and The Beacon Boone!  

There’s no better place to find your serenity than Serenbe! Located just South of the airport and Atlanta, it is a beautiful destination full of the arts, food, farmland, outdoor activities, and where you’re welcome to relax and stroll the gardens or be as adventurous as you want. Start with a stay at the Inn at Serenbe where you can revel in relaxed luxury in an updated, historic farmhouse. Then, enjoy Saturday’s farmers market, take a hike to the waterfall, grab a bite at Halsa and the Farmhouse at Serenbe, roam the gardens, and dinner at The Hill at Serenbe. Now, that sounds like a perfect weekend.
