CITY WINERY TO PAIR ADAM SMITH PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT WITH AN EVENING OF MUSIC

City Winery is set to host one of the most respected authorities on the blues culture of the Deep South, Adam Smith. His work has earned him Photographer of the Year by the 11th Hour, and a permanent installation at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Smith’s collection of works, titled Mornin’ Ain’t Come Yet: A Look Into the Music and Landscape of the Deep South, features moments he captured with blues legends such as Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, and T-Model Ford, as well as the swampy environment of the Mississippi Delta. Also included will be pieces with Georgia rockers such as Drive-By Truckers and Jason Isbell as well as Marty Stewart, Porter Wagoner, and others. His collection of 35mm, medium-format, and large-format photography will be on display at City Winery the night of Friday, August 24th. Available for purchase will be limited edition silver gelatin prints of negatives from his darkroom. Accompanying the exhibit will be live music from alt-Americana rock songwriter Ben Nichols of Lucero. Lucero formed in Memphis in the late 90’s, gaining notoriety in the 2000s from its gritty approach to alt-country music.

3rd Annual Southern Wing Showdown

Springer Mountain Farms Southern Wing Showdown, the favorite summer festival celebrating unique takes on a Southern staple, will return for its third year on Sunday, August 5th. Produced by Taste of Atlanta, the event will feature creative talent from around 30 prominent Southeastern chefs, including chefs from Atlanta, Birmingham, Charleston, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Nashville, and Savannah. Each will serve their unique recipe in a competition for best wing. Local purveyor Springer Mountain Farms will provide all chicken, 100% natural and raised without antibiotics, steroids, growth stimulants or hormones. Angel Flight, a volunteer pilot organization located at Dekalb Peachtree airport and providing flight services to patients in need of medical-related care, will be a nonprofit beneficiary for this event and will host a silent auction on-site. For the first time, the festival is moving from The Foundry at Puritan Mill to a larger space at The Fairmont (1429 Fairmont Ave NW), a newly opened modern and industrial event venue in Atlanta’s West Midtown neighborhood. The 19,000-square-foot space will house multiple activations, from cooking demonstrations to tastings and games. Guests will be able to enjoy wings and sides (plus beverages) from acclaimed chefs such as Matt Basford of Canoe and Jared Hall from One Flew South in Atlanta, Georgia, and Duane Nutter of The Southern National in Mobile, Alabama. Tickets are available for purchase online and will grant access to all-you-can-eat tastes and drinks, including signature cocktails, beer and wine. There will be both General Admission and VIP tickets, with the first hour reserved for VIP First Taster attendees. VIP guests will also have access to the Southern Spirit Lounge throughout the event, offering refreshments and seating. Tickets are $50 for general admission and $60 for VIP.
