BECOME THE ULTIMATE BEER CONNOISSEUR AT RED’S BEER GARDEN’S BEER CLASSES

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 12/12/21

Red’s Beer Garden’s New Year’s resolution is for every guest to work on their six packs. Beer-lovers, don’t worry, no gym is involved here, just brains, creativity, and taste buds for a bold brew. Those looking to perfect their knowledge and become the ultimate beer connoisseurs can choose from a variety of Red’s beer classes this January and February. Whether it’s a date night or a group outing, Kristen “Red” Sumpter is ready to chat about what makes her the hoppiest. All classes last about an hour and are $20 per person and include five handpicked tastings that are each 4 to 5 oz. pours.

SOURS
Originating from Europe and now extremely popular in the U.S., attendees will sample a range of beers from a marshmallow sour to a Belgian lambic. Red will discuss the process of wild fermentation and the difference between sours across Belgium, Germany and the U.S.
  • Saturday January 15th, 4 p.m.
  • Thursday February 24th, 7 p.m.

LAGERS
Not all lagers are pale, so there will be a range of flavor profiles including malty and roasty to crispy and clean. Red will share her expertise on how lagers came about and how they’ve changed throughout the past few centuries.
  • Thursday January 20th, 7 p.m.
  • Saturday February 26th, 4 p.m.

NON-BEER
Sometimes people are in the mood for something that isn’t a beer, and Red has her guests covered. Samples will include still mead, carbonated mead, hard kombucha, and two versions of dry cider.
  • Saturday January 22nd, 4 p.m.
  • Saturday February 19th, 4 p.m.

OLD WORLD BEER
It’s fun to find historical beers from Europe that can be discovered in Red’s grab-and-go coolers. She will chat about the history of these beers, who historically brewed them (women!), how ales and lagers came about, and what makes these brews so special to the world of beer.
  • Saturday February 5th, 4 p.m.

BELGIAN BEER
While not being biased at all…Red believes these are the best beer styles in the world. All samples will come straight from Belgium breweries, with two being Trappist. Hear from the ultimate Belgian beer lover herself about the history of the styles and what makes a Trappist ale so unique.
  • Thursday February 10th, 7 pm

NETHERWORLD CLOSES OUT ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY WITH TWO HOLIDAY EVENTS

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 12/3/21

A Lights on Tour of NETHERWORLD Returns Dec. 11 – Behind-the-Scenes of America’s Favorite Haunted House + A Haunted Holiday Returns Dec. 18 Featuring an Encore Performance of RISE OF THE NETHERSPAWN with a Yuletide Twist!

America’s top-rated haunt, NETHERWORLD Haunted House, is closing out its 25th anniversary season with two incredible special events this December. On Saturday, Dec. 11, A Lights on Tour of NETHERWORLD will take haunt fans behind-the-scenes of what goes into the making of the scariest and most legendary haunted house in the country. On Saturday, Dec. 18, NETHERWORLD will reopen for A Haunted Holiday, an encore performance of the to-die-for 25th season’s main attraction, RISE OF THE NETHERSPAWN, but with a heavy peppermint twist.

First up on Saturday, Dec. 11, guests can experience NETHERWORLD as a VIP with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look during the Lights on Tour. Haunt fans will be taken through the RISE OF THE NETHERSPAWN and RETURN TO PLANET X in 3D with house lights turned on and the haunt effects turned off to expose every demented detail that makes NETHERWORLD a top Halloween destination. Guests will also be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will explore the storylines and production details behind the sets. There will be opportunities to take pictures at select predetermined locations inside the haunts, and each person will receive a free souvenir printed photo to remember this extremely rare event. Each tour group has a maximum of six people allowed. If a group is larger than six, two separate time slots will need to be booked. Tours are offered from noon to 5:45 p.m. and are $100 per person. To check availability and purchase tickets, click here.

“To top off our 25th season in the scream making business, bringing back these two holiday events was an absolute must,” said Ben Armstrong, NETHERWORLD Haunted House Co-Creator. “This is a gift from us to our fans, true haunt enthusiasts who haven’t had the chance to go behind the scenes, but have always wanted to. Now is their chance to get the full experience up close and personal and to deeply explore what makes NETHERWORLD a must visit year after year!”

Then, on Saturday, Dec. 18, back by popular demand, NETHERWORLD will undergo a holiday transformation and reopen for one night only for A Haunted Holiday. Guests will experience a full production and encore performance of RISE OF THE NETHERSPAWN, but this time with a yuletide-fueled takeover. Expect visits from seasonally inspired monsters like Krampus and Yeti, holiday themed scenes, and more. This event will be extremely limited capacity, will offer timed ticketing, and is a great way to experience the acclaimed haunted house without the larger crowds that you would encounter during the regular season in October. Upon exiting the attraction, guests will be able to enjoy NETHERWORLD’s holiday themed Midway entertainment area and gift shop chock full of great Christmas gifts for the lover of all things spooky. Open from 6:30-9:30 p.m., online general admission tickets are $25.95, and SpeedPass tickets are $39.95.

On the respective day for each event, Laser Adventure Battle Arena, the four Escape Room Games and the Monster Museum will be open. Tickets for both the Lights on Tour and A Haunted Holiday are on sale now. It is highly encouraged to purchase tickets online, in advance as both events have an extremely limited capacity and will sell out. • With the exception of Saturday, December 25th.

Past patrons know that Mingle & Jingle is the best local Christmas Bar, not only because it is locally run, but also because Cory and Suzanne sourced many of its decorations from Atlanta stores, such as Last Chance Thrift Store in Decatur and the United Way, and also answered many local social media marketplace ads for unused decor, lights, and ornaments!

From Christmas tchotchkes to a life-size hugging bear, to miles of tinsel garland, to an Instagram-worthy Bow Wall and Giant Wreath, you’ll find all the Christmas feels to make the holiday season a little less stressful.  Upon entering Mingle & Jingle, the first thing you’ll notice is Suzanne’s obvious love of all things sparkly and shiny. GAGIVES RETURNS GIVINGTUESDAY NOVEMBER 30, 2021

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 11/26/21

Sharing #GAgenerosity to the Nonprofits that Have Supported Georgia Communities

GAgives on GivingTuesday, Georgia’s biggest giving campaign, has already begun: Giving is now open for this year’s campaign, which reaches its pinnacle on November 30, GivingTuesday, as part of the international day of giving that takes place each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Despite pandemic conditions, last year saw Georgians showcasing true #GAgenerosity and breaking GAgives records across the board. In 2020, more than 1,200 nonprofits across the state received funds through the official giving portal at GAgives.org, with more than $24 million dollars raised overall (topping 2019’s record total by 84 percent) from 260,546 individual donations, 94 percent more donations than the previous year. As the 2021 season of giving is about to commence, Georgians are being asked to renew their commitment to generosity for the nonprofits that have done so much for their communities – especially over the past two years.

Organized by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits (GCN) for the benefit of all nonprofits located in our state, GAgives is able to expand its efforts and impact each year through the ongoing support of local corporate, foundation, civic, and media partners.

“After the frenzied holiday spending of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GAgives on GivingTuesday empowers Georgians to showcase our commitment to the true meaning of the giving season. On Tuesday, November 30, be a part of GAgives on Giving Tuesday, and support the nonprofits that have been keeping our communities going, even as their needs have multiplied,” said GCN President and CEO Karen Beavor.

One of this year’s new corporate sponsors is WestRock, offering “Power Hour” prizes that encourage even more donors to contribute to the nonprofits they find most meaningful. Additionally, they’re using GAgives as an employment engagement strategy for those based at their Georgia headquarters. “We’re inviting employees to join in recognizing the invaluable role of nonprofits in their community,” said WestRock Director of Corporate Giving Mandy Burnette. “To further encourage team members to participate in GAgives, we’re leveraging the WestRock Foundation’s Matching Gifts program to enhance their personal giving.” This program gives WestRock teammates, as well as their spouses and domestic partners, the ability to raise additional funding for the nonprofits they support by volunteering, making financial contributions, or both.

Others companies showing their #GAgenerosity for GAgives are Aprio; Arby’s Foundation; Atlanta Business ChronicleThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution; Autotrader; Brooks, McGinnis & Company; Carr, Riggs & Ingram; Coca-Cola; Cox Enterprises; Gas South; Georgia News Network; Georgia’s Own; iHeart Media; Kelley Blue Book; Marshall Jones; Outfront Media; Primerica; and WSB-TV Family 2 Family.

Making Giving Personal

This year, the GAgives team has provided participating nonprofits with additional trainings and resources to assist in maximizing their fundraising potential. Person-to-Person (P2P) campaigning skills are being taught and supported, empowering nonprofits to engage their board members, volunteers, and other supporters in fundraising. Tapping their own networks, these P2P campaigners share personal stories about the organization they support, explain why they give, and encourage others not only to give, but to use the same P2P campaign methods themselves.

With this approach – using personal connections to spread the word about the specific impact that nonprofits make in the community – more and more Georgians will discover the difference nonprofits make in the lives of people, moving them to give back. Whether by phone, email, or social media, these P2P campaigns are positioned to grow awareness for Georgia nonprofits and #GAgenerosity exponentially.

“Nonprofits, and the people that they support, need our assistance to continue their work – work that benefits us all, from educational resources for students to job trainings and placements for the unemployed to meals for the elderly; protection for our rivers, parks, and nature preserves; medical attention and health care; housing the homeless; rescuing animals; supporting the arts; and more,” said GCN’s Karen Beavor. “We all have causes that are meaningful to us and our communities, and a gift of any size will make a difference – as will encouraging others to give. Together, we hope to lead another record breaking day of #GAgenerosity.”

Whether Georgians have a specific organization they’d like to support, or want to find a nonprofit that aligns with their values, supporters can easily locate nonprofits by name or cause and donate to them at GAgives.orgGAgives.org also offers full-featured campaign tools that anyone can use to launch their own fundraising efforts.

To further spread the call to give, follow @GAgives on Facebook and Instagram, and use the hashtags #GAgives and #GAgenerosity. Be sure to share the GAgives on GivingTuesday date (November 30) and call-to-action; direct contacts and followers to the nonprofit giving portal at GAgives.org; and encourage everyone in your network to spread the word about GAgives, their favorite nonprofit, and why they donate.
