DATES WITH JAPANESE BREAKFAST & THE BETHS

Rising New Zealand band, Phoebe Rings release their debut album, Aseurai, today via Carpark Records. The band, who will be supporting Japanese Breakfast in Auckland, NZ tomorrow night, have also announced their first ever North America tour with The Beths in the fall.

On Aseurai, Phoebe Rings continue to explore their disco and city-pop influences while staying true to the dream-pop sound of their self-titled EP. “Aseurai means around you in the atmosphere, hard to reach, fading away,” Choi says. “It’s a poetic expression. You wouldn’t say it in normal conversation, but I like that.” The album has garnered praise from outlets like Pitchfork, FLOOD, Beats Per Minute, and Paste Magazine, who said the album finds the band “sharply in the pocket that makes them terrific.”

Alongside the album, the band shares a live video of album standout “Playground Song,” directed by Nahyeon Lee, and filmed in Whangaripo Valley, North of the band’s home town Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.
