NATIONAL DOG DAY PARTY AT EVENTIDE BREWING

Celebrate doggos, puppers & woofers at Eventide Brewing’s National Dog Day party on Friday, August 26

Grant Park’s favorite brewery is rolling out the red carpet for its four-legged friends with vendors, plenty of canine treats & free beer for anyone who donates to PAWS Atlanta

Get ready for a doggone great time celebrating pups big and small at Eventide Brewing on Friday, August 26 4-10 PM. 

Grant Park’s favorite brewery is toasting man’s and woman’s best friend this National Dog Day. The festivities, which kickoff at 4 p.m., will be emceed by Benny the Berner and include:  

  • PAWS Atlanta, which will be onsite with adoptable pups and volunteer opportunities. Additionally, Eventide is hosting a donation drive and everyone who brings an item will receive a free pint. Items needed include: 
    • Hill’s Science Diet adult dog food
    • Newspapers
    • Regular unscented bleach
    • Trash bags (heavy 55 – 60 gallon and 13-gallon tall kitchen) 
    • Milk-Bones
    • Kong toys
  • Atlanta Dog Rescue Cafe, which will provide fun and interactive pet education for all ages. 
  • Big Daddy Biscuits, which will have plenty of all-natural, healthy treats for sale. 
  • Blue Grasshopper Creations, which will be selling handmade dog bow ties, bandanas and more.
  • Greatest of All Pops (GOAP), which will be on hand with cool pupsicles to help your four-legged friends beat the dog days of summer.
  • Creative Caricatures, which will have an artist on hand to capture unique illustrations of you and your best friend. 

Also, Eventide Brewing will be serving a “Pooch Pilsner” and “Pooch Porter” (made with chicken and beef broth, respectively), depending on your dog’s preference. 

Finally, there will be a dog-owner look alike contest where the winner will receive free beer for the rest of 2022. Registration will take place from 6 to 7 p.m., with the contest beginning at 8 p.m. 

Whether you have a smol, a chunky boy or an absolute unit, all puppers (as long as they we well-behaved) are welcome!

Two living members of the original Star Trek television series, William Shatner and Walter Koenig, lead a long list of celebrity guests headed to Dragon Con, Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy, science fiction, and gaming convention, for Labor Day weekend.

Emmy-nominated actors Morena Baccarin and Tom Cavanagh, along with David Ramsey and Danielle Panabaker, will join Shatner and Koenig to meet fans, lead panel discussions and sign autographs.

Other top guests from television and movies including Charmed’s Holly Marie Combs; Stargate Atlantis’ Joe Flanigan and Rachel Luttrell; Encanto’s Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, and Adassa; Stargirl’s Brec Bassinger, Yvette Monreal, Trae Romano, and Anjelika Washington; and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’s Brett Dalton, Jason O’Mara, and Briana Venskus; as well as voice actors Kaitlyn Robrock (Disney’s Minnie Mouse), Jim Cummings (Disney’s Winnie the Pooh), and Nolan North (Superman).

Several television shows filmed in Georgia will be represented including Doom Patrol, Stargirl, The Walking Dead, and Fear the Walking Dead, which recently moved production to Georgia after several seasons in Texas. Other media guests will represent Titans, Supernatural, Star Trek Picard, Star Trek Discovery, Stargate SG-1, The Magicians, Locke & Key, and The Expanse, as well as video game Red Dead Redemption.

An estimated 60,000 people are expected to attend Dragon Con over the five-day Labor Day Weekend – Sept. 1 to Sept. 5 – with events and activities across AmericasMart Buildings Two and Three and five host hotels – Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree, and Sheraton Atlanta.

Literary Guest of Honor Nnedi Okorafor, an award-winning science fiction novelist best known for Who Fears Death and the Binti trilogy, and Artist Guest of Honor Stephanie Law, a fantasy fine artist whose work explores mythology in next contexts, especially into the natural world.

For an older generation of fans, the convention also welcomes Sam J. Jones and Melody Anderson from the 1980 cult classic film, Flash Gordon.

Shatner is a cultural icon and best remembered as Capt. James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek television series, the animated series, and seven motion pictures. He will be at the convention on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only.

He will be joined Koenig, who played Ensign Pavel Chekov, who brought teen idol good looks to the bridge of the USS Enterprise. Koenig also appeared all seven motion pictures featuring the original cast. Later in his career, Koenig had a featured role in the science fiction television series Babylon 5.

Baccarin has a wide following in pop culture, having had lead roles in television’s Gotham and The Flash, two Deadpool movies, television’s Firefly and its follow up film Serenity, and the 2009 television reboot of V.  Baccarin will be joined by Gotham castmate (and spouse) Ben McKenzie.

Cavanagh leads a strong showing of castmates from the Arrowverse, the CW franchise that includes several DC Comics-based shows including Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and several others.  Cavanagh is an original cast member of The Flash, appearing as Dr. Harrison Wells and Reverse Flash, with appearances in Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Supergirl, and Batwoman.  Cavanagh is also well known to television audiences from the shows Ed and Scrubs.

Ramsey plays the role of John Diggle (also known as Spartan or Green Arrow), initially on Arrow, which ran from 2012 to 2020, and continues in that role across the so-called Arrowverse programs, including The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman and Lois, and Supergirl.

Panabaker, another The Flash original actor, played Caitlyn Snow (also known as Killer Frost) across the Arrowverse, also appearing in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Arrow.

Cavanagh, Ramsey and Panabaker will be joined by Danielle Nicolet (The Flash), Olivia Swann (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), and Arthur Darvill (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow).  Darvill is also well known in fandom as companion Rory Williams from the Doctor Who franchise.

Food That Rocks Returns August 19-20 to Celebrate Local Restaurants at City
Green in City Springs, Presented by Taste of Atlanta
Popular event includes bites and bevs, chef demos, and live music creating unique tasting experiences with local flavor

Food That Rocks, a tasting event celebrating the diverse and vibrant restaurant scene in Sandy Springs, celebrates its seventh year. Food That Rocks returns on August 19-20 with food, wine, beer and cocktails from more than 20 local participating restaurants. Food That Rocks is hosting three sessions for guests 21-and-up to taste and sip from top-rated Sandy Springs restaurants. Food That Rocks includes chef cooking demonstrations during the day and live music at night for entertainment.

Paying homage to a day Atlanta can truly claim as its own, Atlanta Sport and Social Club have announced the 404 Festival, an event dedicated to community inclusion, growth, and appreciation of the city of Atlanta, its unique culture, and all that comes with it. Taking place August 13, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Pullman Yards, 404 Fest- Atlanta’s first (and best) area code, will showcase Atlanta-based local and national acts, local artists, muralists, vendors, history, fashion, sports, and of course- the music!

PEACHFEST RETURNS TO PEACHTREE CENTER JULY 26TH

Festival organizers announce chefs and sponsors ahead of the all-inclusive event on July 26

Summer in Georgia signals the start of peach season and this year, Atlanta’s popular PeachFest returns to Peachtree Center after a pandemic pause. From 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, Peachtree Center will open The Plaza to Atlanta’s best food artisans, pastry chefs and barkeeps for the fifth annual peach-filled extravaganza for an all-inclusive guest experience.

During Peachfest, guests will be able to enjoy peach-centric dishes, beer, wine, peach-infused cocktails and more curated by leading influencers in Atlanta’s food and beverage industry. Offerings include chef-prepared dishes studded with the state’s signature fruit, the Georgia peach; crushable, peach-infused cocktails made with premium spirits; endless beers, including an exclusive peach beer from Wrecking Bar Brewpub, and the Vinoteca Wine Lounge featuring Ribera del Duero and Rueda, Spain’s most prestigious regions for red and white wines.

“As Downtown Atlanta’s cultural hub, we’re thrilled to welcome back PeachFest to Peachtree Center,” said Leslie Bland, Director of Marketing at Peachtree Center. “In celebration of the Georgia Peach, PeachFest will allow guests the opportunity to enjoy an intimate, first-hand experience with the city’s top chefs and mixologists in support of our long-term partner, Pearson Farms. In times of need, Piggy Bank provides relief to heritage breed pig farmers struck by eco-disaster in an effort to avoid failure.

ATLANTA FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL IS BACK FOR 2022 WITH NEW PROGRAMMING

Tasting tents return alongside brand new events and programming – Sliced & Cluck’d – celebrating Southern culinary talent and traditions

The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival (AF&WF) returns for its 11th year from Thursday, September 15, through Sunday, September 18, with various programming throughout Atlanta and tickets will officially go on sale to the public Thursday, June 23 – with a limited amount of tickets available with early bird pricing through Thursday, June 30. A celebration of Southern culinary culture, attendees can prepare to revel in creations from an array of the finest chefs the South has to offer – from Texas through Georgia, and all the way to D.C. – with proceeds benefiting Children of Conservation’s school lunch program, providing nutrient-dense meals for children in Africa.

From June 23 to June 30 (or until allotments sell out), early bird tickets for the signature tasting tents start at $85 for general admission per day – including unlimited food, wine & cocktails, alongside live chef demos presented by Publix & interactive experiences – and $125 for VIP, which offers priority access to the tents. After June 30, prices will increase to $99 for general admission and $150 for VIP. Tickets for a curated selection of intimate brunches, dinners, master classes and personalized chef experiences & collaborations will be available “a-la-carte,” including those for two new signature events, coming to Midtown’s latest events destination, Guardian Works:

Whether served roasted, battered, baked, barbecued, grilled, sautéed, braised or fried, prepare to indulge in a variety of the South’s best birds by 15 of the top chefs of the South paired with signature Southern cocktails. Dig into some classic yet out-of-the-box poultry dishes from some of the best chefs east of the Mason Dixon. Tickets include unlimited dishes, sips & entertainment for $110 through June 30, increasing to $125 on July 1.
