January 21 at the Plaza Theater

Empowering Untold Narratives: The Benefit Film Festival Brings Independent Filmmakers Center Stage,
Highlighting Diversity in Atlanta’s Film Industry.

On January 21, 2024, the iconic Plaza Theater in Atlanta will host The Benefit Film Festival, a cinematic showcase designed to empower minority and female filmmakers within the vibrant Atlanta market. The film festival will feature a compelling lineup of films showcasing emerging talent from the Atlanta studio of Anthony Meindl’s Actor Workshop (AMAW). The films embody unique narratives that align with the festival’s mission of amplifying independent filmmaker voices. The afternoon will be divided into two screening “blocks,” featuring the award-winning feature film Forgetting Christmas and six acclaimed short films: Rainbow Sun, Good Day, Samuel, Conflict, Christmas Cookies, and Right Where
You Left Me. Q&A sessions following each block will have engaging discussions around independent filmmaking and thematic content.

A standout among the ensemble of actors, writers, and producers is the Emmy-nominated VictorianRowell from the daytime soap opera, The Young and the Restless. Victoria is both featured in and a producer of the festival’s feature film, Forgetting Christmas—a heartwarming story about a family finding hope during the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. Also featured in the festival is Carlos Aviles from NBC’s hit show Good Girls and the acclaimed HBO series Barry. Carlos not only stars in but is also the writer and producer of the poignant short film Rainbow Sun. This captivating film showsthe journey
of a son navigating the right time to reveal his identity to his “man’s man” father while confronting the realities of his mother’s battle with Sickle Cell Anemia.

“The Benefit Film Festival was born out of my own experience working with independent creatives who faced barriers in the film industry. I wanted to create a platform for them to affordably share their compelling stories and talent with the world. I am thrilled to provide this opportunity to amplify the voices of independent artists, particularly minority and female filmmakers, who often face disproportionate challenges in the industry,” said Raisa D’Oyley, actor and festival organizer.

Tickets and donations for The Benefit Film Festival can be found at http://www.thebenefitfilmfestival.com/, with proceeds reinvested back into the filmmakers, enabling them to continue contributing their voices to the world of cinema.

SECOND SELF BEER CO TO HOST FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENT BENEFITING ATLANTA FIREFIGHTERS

Locals are invited to shop, eat and sip brews to benefit Atlanta Professional Fire Fighters

Saturday, 9/24 at Noon to 5 pm

On Saturday, September 24, West Midtown’s favorite brewery will host a festival to raise funds for Atlanta Professional Fire Fighters (APFF), a non-profit that fights for the city’s firefighters to have proper safety resources, funds for medical care and more.

The festivities, happening from noon to 5 p.m., will feature a pop-up market, food trucks, various Second Self beers, games and more.

Atlantans can shop from local vendors such as Sweet As a Peach Jams & Pickles, Just Add Honey Tea Company and Amore Organics — and for custom t-shirts by APFF — from noon to 2 p.m. Throughout the event, attendees can mingle with local firefighters and participate in games while savoring delicious eats and sips for a good cause.

Second Self is releasing a limited-edition version of their fan-favorite “La Fría” with an added fruit element and renaming it La Fuega for the day (meaning “fire” in Spanish) – a nod to their support of APFF. All proceeds from La Fuega will benefit local firefighters.

A portion of event proceeds will go towards APFF’s health and wellness fund. The charity covers everything from mental health support for PTSD symptoms, recovery for job-related injuries, funeral costs as well as much-needed financial support for families of fallen firefighters.

Fundraisers APFF has previously hosted include their annual St. Patrick’s Day Picnic in conjunction with the city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, and a donation dine-in where they partnered with local businesses like Chick Fil-A, Hudson Grille and others on International Firefighters’ Day.

For more information about the festival, please visit APFF’s Facebook event page.

Les Dames d’Escoffier (LDEI) Atlanta, part of an international society of female leaders in culinary professions, is hosting the 19th annual Afternoon in the Country (AITC) on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 1-4 p.m. at Foxhall Resort in Douglasville, Georgia. Tickets for both general and VIP admission are now available, and proceeds from the event directly fund scholarships for women in culinary and agriculture, as well as support other food-related philanthropic efforts.

“Afternoon in the Country isn’t just a fun way to enjoy amazing food and beverages, it’s also an opportunity to meet the incredible women making an impact in our community and to help us continue education for females pursuing careers in culinary arts, hospitality and agriculture,” said Angie Mosier, Les Dames d’Escoffier-Atlanta board president.

Dedicated to promoting the achievement of women in culinary professions through educational and charitable activities, the Atlanta Chapter of LDEI has been offering annual scholarships and continuing education grants since 2001. The organization also provides thousands of dollars of funding to local non-profit organizations related to farming, global culinary initiatives, nutrition programs and anti-hunger work. AITC’s ticket sales, raffle and auction items help fund these initiatives.

While supporting these important causes, AITC attendees get to spend an afternoon sampling food and beverages from more than 150 of the region’s top chefs, restaurants, farms, wineries, breweries and distilleries. The afternoon also includes a cake raffle featuring delectable creations from Atlanta’s most talented pastry chefs and a celebrated silent auction offering exciting getaways and food and wine merchandise.

General admission tickets to AITC are $125 per person and include unlimited tastings. For $250, the VIP ticket experience includes special perks such as early admission, valet parking, a gift tote with an array of curated goods, and access to the Georgia Grown VIP Tent and the Foxhall Resort After Party at the glorious Legacy Lookout. Both tiers of tickets are available
