MADELINE’S CHRISTMAS RETURNS TO HORIZON THEATRE, DEC 6-31

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 10/27/25

Beloved holiday tradition will have its 15th year at the Inman Park/Little Five Points theatre

A holiday favorite is back to brighten the season! Madeline’s Christmas returns to Horizon Theatre for its 15th joyous year, spreading cheer from Dec. 6–31, 2025. A collaboration between Horizon Theatre and Atlanta Children’s Theatre, this heartwarming musical adaptation of Ludwig Bemelmans’ beloved classic continues to delight audiences of all ages with its timeless charm, catchy tunes and holiday spirit. This year’s production will once again feature 24 talented local girls (ages 8–13) performing alongside professional actors on a whimsical, Parisian-inspired set—bringing Madeline and her classmates to life in a way that’s both magical and memorable.

“It’s such a treat to once again bring Madeline’s Christmas to our stage – a show that has brought joy to countless families through the years,” said Horizon’s Co-Artistic/Producing Director Lisa Adler. “Our intimate theatre lets audiences feel like they’re part of the story. And after every show, families can meet the cast, take photos and make memories that last long after the curtain falls. We’re grateful to everyone who’s made this production such a treasured holiday tradition.”

More than 360 local girls have fulfilled their dreams of performing with a professional theatre company over the past 15 years. This year’s cast includes students from 5 metro Atlanta counties and more than 20 schools, highlighting the diverse talent across the region.

Based on one of the most popular children’s books of all time, this musical play follows Madeline and friends on a holiday adventure unlike any other. After a trip to the zoo on a December day, “achoo” echoes in the halls of “the old house in Paris.” All but Madeline have caught the flu! Will the girls be able to go home for Christmas?  It’s Madeline to the rescue! With the help of a mysterious stranger, the “twelve little girls in two straight lines” end up with a magical and memorable holiday beyond their wildest dreams!  A holiday treat for the whole family.

Madeline’s Christmas will run Dec. 6 – 31. Performances are weekends at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. with additional 10:30 a.m. performances on Dec. 13-14 and 20-21. Weekday performances will take place Dec. 18 – 23 and 26 – 31 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. with additional School Day performances at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 – 11. Tickets are $15 for youth (ages 21 and under) and $20 for adults, plus sales tax.  The play is 70-minutes long and appropriate for ages 3 and up.  Concessions and Madeline Merchandise are available at the show. Purchases of $10 Star Wands benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Tickets and information are available at horizontheatre.com or 404-584-7450.

Usher in the happiest time of year at the 2022 Annual Vinings Jubilee Christmas Tree Lighting at Paces Properties’ Vinings Jubilee, taking place 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Tower Stage. The annual event transforms Vinings Jubilee into a holiday wonderland for the entire family to enjoy and is free for all to attend.

“The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Vinings Jubilee is one of our favorite events to host each year,” said David Cochran, CEO of Paces Properties. “For 37 years, we’ve welcomed families and friends as they come together from across Atlanta, reminding all of us that this season is best spent surrounded by loved ones. For many, this is a holiday tradition that is looked forward to every year and we’re thrilled to be able to host the event once again.”

For guests, we hope you’ve been nice and not naughty, because Santa Claus always makes an appearance at the beloved holiday event. While his reindeer keep Mrs. Claus company at the North Pole, Santa will have his bag of gifts, his list checked twice, and will be available for photo opportunities throughout the evening. Of course, Santa will also come prepared with other activities for the whole family to enjoy – ornament decorating, balloon artists, face painting, a live puppet show, and even a train ride are all on the night’s cheery agenda. The evening will include classic Christmas carols performed by singing elves, Whitefield Academy Jazz band and the Campbell Middle School Chorus. Before the celebrations begin, stop in for a bite or a sweet treat from one of Vinings’ delicious eateries which include Another Broken Egg Café, Café at Pharr, SOHO, Paces & Vine, Mellow Mushroom, Stockyard Burgers, Southern Baked Pie Company and Cold Stone Creamery.
