SHAKY KNEES 2026 – DAY 1

We’re back at the all-weekend Shaky Knees Festival being held at Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta. The first day highlights included browsing the grounds, enjoying several acts from Geese to Turnstile to Danny Elfman, and soaking in the hot day with friends. Did you attend Shaky Knees Friday night?

Here are our thoughts on the acts we saw last night:

Geese

We’ve heard of them from several people that we needed to see them from friends to random people at other concerts, so we caught the last half of the show. Geese is an American rock band out of New York City. At first, I felt like the lead singer, Cameron Winter, was channeling John Lennon with his flowing vocals and round glasses, but they had so much more hard rock in their repertoire. They have a good mix of rock riffs, classic rock base with psychedelic and jam mixed in just for fun. I had a friend tell me they cover the Talking Heads and other greats. And at the end of the set, they sang “I’ve got a b*omb in my car.” I really liked how hard it was.

Turnstile

I was the most impressed by Turnstile and I had not even planned to attend their show until one of our friends wanted to go. Turnstile is a fun American Rock band out of Baltimore, Maryland. When I was listening to them, I immediately thought they had Rage against the Machine vibes with some of the same riffs and notes. John hit the nail on the head though and suggested they sound a lot like Jane’s Addiction. It is a mix of both bands and I’m here for it. One of my friends called them Jane against the machine. I like it!

Danny Elfman

What was that? When I heard Danny Elfman was playing, I was thinking Oingo Boingo and all musical movie and TV scores since that’s really all I know about him. What we got was a mish mash of rock songs that sounded a lot like Rob Zombie meets Iggy Pop with crazy visuals. Then, he mixed in some of his favorite compositions from Nightmare before Christmas, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Spiderman, and even The Simpsons. It was a wild ride.

Today, Irish artist and songwriter Dove Ellis releases “Love Is / Pale Song”. The two-track offering arrives alongside the announcement of his highly anticipated debut album, Blizzard, set for release on Friday, December 5th. With “Love Is” as the focus track, the double single captures Dove at his most direct and immediate yet, pairing raw lyricism with driving rhythms and atmospheric textures. The album was self-produced and recorded in London and Liverpool with mixing by Sophie Ellis and Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief, Dijon, Mk.Gee, Bon Iver). Next week, Dove Ellis will embark on his first-ever US Tour. He’ll open for New York rock band Geese and also play newly announced select headline shows in Los Angeles & New York City. His debut single “To The Sandals” introduced this world with striking clarity. A tender, reflective moment, it has earned near unanimous praise from the likes of Stereogum, The FADER, Wonderland, DIY, and others. “Every song could sound like this and I’d still beg for a thousand more,” said Paste. “He sounds like he’s been here forever.”  With incredible Spotify support that saw Dove’s debut added to over 40 Spotify playlists; ‘To The Sandals’ has amassed 400k global streams, establishing Dove as a rare new voice capable of bridging emotional depth with understated scale.

In addition to the Geese run, Dove will make his debut TV live performance at Other Voices in Dingle, Ireland performing alongside Olivia Dean, Dry Cleaning, and Florence Road, before returning to London for a headline show at the prestigious ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) to mark the release of the album (Dec 9).
