EXPLORE GWINNETT ANNOUNCES NINTH ANNUAL ARTOBER GWINNETT

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 10/7/25

Gwinnett County Transforms Into a Living Gallery This October With 31 Days of Arts, Culture and Community Experiences – Including the Return of the Award-Winning Not Your Mother’s Art Fest

Explore Gwinnett, the official tourism organization of Gwinnett County, is thrilled to announce its ninth annual ARTober Gwinnett, a monthlong celebration of the county’s arts, culture and community. This month, Gwinnett County will transform into a living gallery as local artists, performers and cultural organizations bring their talents to stages, streets and unexpected spaces across the community. This year’s 31 days of programming includes the return of the award-winning Not Your Mother’s Art Fest in Lawrenceville.

“ARTober is such a special time for Gwinnett because it gives residents and visitors the chance to experience our community’s creativity in so many unique ways,” said Madison Chucci, senior community development manager of Explore Gwinnett Tourism and Film.“After a successful inaugural celebration last year, we’re excited for Not Your Mother’s Art Fest to return and once again break the mold of the traditional art festival.”

Named the 2025 Best New Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Festivals & Events Association, Not Your Mother’s Art Fest will take place on Friday, October 10, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Slow Pour Brewing. The free, family-friendly festival celebrates nontraditional art styles and unconventional creativity through immersive installations, live performances, street art, hands-on workshops and interactive experiences. From cutting-edge contemporary works to fresh takes on classic forms, Not Your Mother’s Art Fest spotlights diverse voices and underrepresented artists who are redefining what art can be. Hosted in partnership with the City of Lawrenceville and Slow Pour Brewing, the celebration blends creativity with community spirit, complemented by local craft beer, food and an inclusive atmosphere.

In addition to Not Your Mother’s Art Fest, ARTober Gwinnett will feature a lineup of events showcasing the depth and diversity of the county’s creative community. From live theater and poetry slams to music festivals, chalk art, haunted tours and public art, each day offers a new way to connect with creativity. A full list of ARTober events is available here.

“Our 2025 ARTober will be the biggest and most exciting yet,” said Lisa Anders, chief operating officer of Explore Gwinnett Tourism and Film. “As we enter our ninth year celebrating and elevating Gwinnett’s arts and cultural spaces, we’re proud to continue adding new ways for residents and visitors to experience the people, places and stories that shape the county’s vibrant creative community.”

ARTober Gwinnett will also kick off the Gwinnett Creativity Fund (GCF) 2026 grant cycle. Now in its seventh year, the GCF aims to enhance the county’s diverse cultural landscape by providing financial support to local arts and educational organizations through operational and project-based grants. Applications are open through January 15, 2026.

AMORE E AMORE CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF FESTIVE TRADITIONS, UNFORGETTABLE DINNERS, AND ATLANTA LOVE STORIES

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 10/2/25

Marking 25 Years With a Citywide Call for Memories, Festive Surprises, and a Holiday Experience Like No Other

Amore e Amore has spent the last 25 years turning dinners into memories, traditions into celebrations, and Inman Park into the backdrop for countless Atlanta love stories. Known for its immersive pop-ups, wildly over-the-top décor, and the unmistakable magic created by Mama Gale and Professor Giovanni, the beloved ristorante now marks a milestone anniversary with a season of festive surprises, unforgettable dinners, and a citywide call for memories.

Beginning October 1, guests are invited to help mark the milestone by sharing their favorite memories, photos, videos, and stories from the past two and a half decades. Whether it’s a romantic moment over ravioli, a family holiday tradition, or a snapshot from one of the restaurant’s many immersive pop-ups, each submission is a chance to be part of the story. Select memories will be featured throughout the season, and several lucky participants will receive prizes, including dinner for two. For detailed information on how to submit memories, visit www.amoreeamore.com or follow @eatamoreatl on Instagram.

“Reaching 25 years is more than a milestone. It’s a reminder of every laugh, every love story, and every memory shared around our tables,” says Amore e Amore co-founder “Mama Gale” Parker. “From Il Localino to Amore e Amore, this has always been a place to celebrate life, family, and the joy that comes with simply being together. I’m beyond grateful we get to keep doing what we love and for our loyal guests, our incredible staff, and the Inman Park community that continues to embrace us.”

The official 25th anniversary celebration begins November 5 with the debut of a limited-time 25th Anniversary Prix Fixe Dinner available alongside the full à la carte menu through Christmas Eve. At $125 per person (excluding tax, gratuity and alcohol), guests can expect a multi-course experience filled with fan-favorite dishes, seasonal touches, and unexpected tableside delights, each one a toast to Amore’s past, present, and always-theatrical future.

In true Amore fashion, the restaurant itself will be completely transformed for the season. Every ceiling, surface, and chandelier will be draped in garlands, glittering trees, oversized ornaments, and festive flourishes as it evolves into a whimsical winter wonderland. Alongside the anniversary prix fixe menu, guests can sip holiday-themed cocktails, enjoy the full festive à la carte dinner offerings, and even meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoy pop-up entertainers like balloon artists and face painters during select dates. Special holiday prix fixe menus, along with Dinner with Santa & Mrs. Claus dates, will be announced in the coming weeks.

Amore e Amore is open Tuesday through Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. Kids ages 12 and under are welcome to dine from open until 7:30 p.m. For more information or to make a reservation, visit www.amoreeamore.com or call 404-600-2176. Halloween Comes Alive At Tio Lucho’s With Tricks, Treats and Tio’s Eats

Halloween in Atlanta is stacked with parties, but Tio Lucho’s isn’t one to blend into the crowd. On Friday, October 31, James Beard Award-nominated Chef Arnaldo Castillo turns his Poncey-Highland restaurant into a full-throttle celebration, marrying his culinary point of view with the electric energy of the holiday. Tricks, Treats and Tio’s Eats will carry the neighborhood from daylight to last call, with beats, bites, and plenty of surprises along the way. It also happens to be Chef Castillo’s birthday, and the city is invited to join the toast. The lineup is as dynamic as the food. Presented by Caravedo Pisco, a DJ takes over the dining room from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m., building momentum as the day turns into night. The restaurant itself will be reimagined for the occasion: the bar cleared for dancing, tables and benches pulled to the edges for gathering, and service designed for easy access. As the evening unfolds, fire dancers will ignite the crowd, and a costume contest will up the ante with prizes for best overall, funniest, and scariest looks. Late-night hunger will be rewarded with Chef Castillo’s version of party fuel. Think skewers of chicken and steak anticuchos hot off the grill, cachanga fry bread, and much more. Behind the bar, the mood stays sharp and spirited with martinis, Old Fashioneds, whiskey sours, Caravedo Pisco sours, margaritas, daiquiris, Paper Planes, Naked and Famous, and a Pisco punch feature. For those leaning into mischief, a cheeky “dirty” shot list and complimentary jello shots seal the deal. Tricks, Treats and Tio’s Eats is free to attend. For more information, call (404) 343-0278 or visit www.tioluchos.com. Tio Lucho’s is located in Atlanta’s Poncey-Highland neighborhood at 675 N. Highland Ave. NE #6000. GET OGRE IT! A Shrek Burlesque Spectacular Brings Fairy Tale Fantasy to the Stage

What happens when swamp sass meets sultry sparkle? Get ready to find out, because “SHREKXUAL: Burlesque and Blingo” is crashing the stage with glitter, green, and a whole lot of gumption!

Inspired by the beloved ogre and his band of fairytale misfits, this one-of-a-kind burlesque parody pays homage to the iconic characters of the Shrek universe — but with a whole new layer of leather, lace, and irreverent humor. Performers and producers have taken previous iterations of this production across the country to sold out venues! From Orlando Fringe Festival to Virginia, this show is a giggle-fest in all it’s glory!

The cast and crew take everything you thought you knew about the swamp and turn it into a glittering, body-positive, bawdy celebration of love, layers, and letting your freak flag fly.

Details:

📍 Venue: Atlantucky Brewing, 170 Northside Dr SW suite 96, Atlanta, GA 30313
📅 Dates: One night only, October 10th
🕗 Showtime: 8:30 PM doors, 9:30 PM show start

This sh*t isn’t Shakespeare. It’s fun, it’s meant to celebrate our performers and our nostalgia” says Cherry Bonbon, creator and co-producer of the show. “This production is about parody, but it’s also about celebrating yourself, and embracing your inner ogre in a harsh world where fairytale endings are all that’s shown on social media..”

The cast for this show includes Andy Laine as the tit-ular Shrek and Donkey, Cherry Bonbon as Fiona and Lord Farquaad, Mae B. Smitten as Gingy and Dragon, Tiffany Problem as our stunning stage hand and The Jessica Nova, Atlanta native, as the bubbly and all-powerful Fairy Godmother and….perhaps a secret second storybook character.

RICO NASTY COMING TO ATLANTA’S THE TABERNACLE ON 10/21

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 9/29/25

FALL NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR KICKS OFF IN SEPTEMBER

NEW ALBUM LETHAL

OUT NOW ON FUELED BY RAMEN

J

Last night, Rico Nasty performed the buoyant and radiant “CRASH” for Jimmy Kimmel Live! from her recent album LETHAL out now Fueled by Ramen (Atlantic Music Group). The performance marks LETHAL’s TV debut ahead of her fall tour kicking off on September 19th at Chicago’s Riot Fest and ends Nov 4th in Los Angeles at The Fonda. Recently, Rico and her band performed a stunning, raw set for NPR’s Tiny Desk. Tickets are on-sale HERE

Always the rap world’s biggest rock star, Rico Nasty is known for her own particular brand of rage-rap and for her outrageous on-stage, online, volume-up persona. But as she grew up, she started to feel trapped by the character she created. LETHAL is a reckoning of who Rico is at 27 with the trap-pop teen persona she created more than a decade ago. Executive produced by GRAMMY nominated producer Imad Royal, the album still features all the hallmarks of a Rico Nasty record – female rage, heavy guitars, humor – but there are also notes of femininity, introspection and a more complex framing of all the angles of Rico – the performer, the mother, the adult.

Alongside the new record, Rico will make her acting debut in Apple TV+ & A24’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles, created by David E. Kelley and based on the 2024 novel by Rufi Thorpe. Rico will star alongside Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfieffer, Nicole Kidman, Nick Offerman, Lindsey Normington & more.

The album is preceded by lead single “TEETHSUCKER (YEA3X)”- a headturning statement of intent that Billboard praised, writing “Rico Nasty has always felt a bit ahead of the times, and this could be the moment the mainstream finally syncs up with her.” Rico followed the track with the sticky, hook-laced trap-pop of “ON THE LOW” and the more recent, playfully sophisticated combination of  “BUTTERFLY KISSES” & “CAN’T WIN EM ALL.”

From the moment she arrived, Rico Nasty stood out. Since her breakthrough as a teenager from PG County, Maryland with her own signature blend of bubbly melodies, rage raps, and skull-rattling beats, the artist born Maria Kelly has been an iconoclastic presence in the rap game. She’s been drawn from the jump to the juxtaposition of hard and soft, countering her sweet-and-sour Sugar Trap sound with the kind of vocal cord-shredding mosh-rap you hear everywhere today. Back then, label executives called her weird for songs like 2018’s paradigm-shifting “Smack A Bitch,” which kicked open the doors to a dominant new era of “rapper as rockstar.” At a time when female rappers dressed like WWE wrestlers, Rico was serving Sex Pistols meets Rainbow Brite. But for Rico, the aesthetic wasn’t a costume or a phase. It’s one thing to dress like a rockstar — to be a rockstar is another.

Scan your favorite new rap playlist and you’ll hear a generation of up-and-coming artists inspired by Rico’s balance of high-femme trap-pop and nu-metal rage rap. But around the time of her last record, 2022’s Las Ruinas, the innovator felt trapped: “I was caught in the space of wanting to be understood by the masses, but also recognizing that maybe I’m not supposed to be.” She’d started to feel pigeonholed by her own outré persona, which hadn’t changed much since she’d stepped into the role of Rico Nasty as a teen. “I felt like I was living in character,” the 27-year old admits today. “And when I first started, that was the whole idea of it — but that gets exhausting.” Backstage at last year’s headlining tour, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror dressed as a teenage raver. “No shade, but dude, you’re 26,” she recalls thinking. “When are you going to grow up?”

So began Rico Nasty’s year of reckoning, which began as a conscious free-fall. “I just completely let life take me: letting myself indulge in things that made me excited, living real life experiences,” she says. She cleared her closet of the things that made her feel stuck at age 19, ditching the Demonia boots for grown-and-sexy heels. She dove deep into books, deleted social media from her phone, and started taking therapy seriously. For years, she’d withstood label pressure to give her songs more pop appeal or hop on passing trends. Now, working on the songs that would become LETHAL, Rico felt like she had back in the Sugar Trap days, before she’d known how bittersweet the industry could be. In short, she says: “I reconnected to myself.”

Meanwhile she’d parted ways with her entire management team, flying solo until an opportunity to perform with Paramore in summer 2023 introduced her to her new team. Rico had been signed to Atlantic Records since 2018, but dreamed of being “somewhere a little bit more edgy, where I had more space to grow and be whoever I felt like being.” When her new team mentioned Fueled By Ramen, the alternative label who launched bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco into the mainstream, Rico panicked that she’d be misunderstood: “I’m a rapper, and I want to be remembered as a rapper.” Instead, the label instructed Rico to stay true to no one but herself.

Praise for LETHAL

“explosive, expansive and razor-sharp, a sonic evolution that fuses her iconic “sugar trap” roots with searing rap-rock chaos and surprising softness.”

– Billboard

“Fierce”

– Variety

“One of the premier rappers of her generation”

– Consequence

“Rico Nasty turns up the heat…reminding fans why she’s an original rage-rap iconoclast”

BET

“‘Lethal’ is one of her most wide-ranging projects yet, from her rock-oriented abrasion to the sweeter, brighter sounds of her trademark sugar trap, to dark, moody rap songs done in the way that only Rico Nasty can. “
