FreakNik® to Partner With MetaWorks Platforms and MusicFX for Live Event

“FreakNik: The Wildest Party Never Told” Documentary to Be Aired on Hulu

FreakNik®, Atlanta’s legendary Spring Break celebration that gained popularity throughout the ’80s and ’90s, has seen a recent flurry of press surrounding an original documentary by Hulu entitled “FreakNik: The Wildest Party Never Told.” The celebrated albeit notorious event has seen a resurgence after 20 years as Atlanta-based promotional company After 9 Partners brought it back to life in 2019 as a celebration of the FreakNik® of the 90s and has continued to stoke the public’s interest through a series of community events and concerts.

Due to the pandemic, 2020 saw FreakNik Festival partner with City of South Fulton Mayor khalid, for a historic March on Old National, in response to the Black Lives Movement called “Black Fathers are D.O.P.E.” or Dad’s Overcoming Pressure Everyday. The following year with pandemic restrictions pealing back, FreakNik® Festival returned as a free outdoor community event with over 6000 patrons and a concert with 4000 patrons.

And in 2022, FreakNik® Festival partnered with 21 Savage to co-produce his star-studded FreakNik® Birthday celebration, where Drake joined him to host with other notable celebrities such as Lizzo, Teyana Taylor, and political wonks Stacey Abrams and Mayor khalid in attendance.

For 2023, After 9 Partners’ FreakNik® Trademark has partnered with  MetaWorks Platforms Inc., an award-winning, full-service Web3 blockchain platform provider, and MusicFX– its NFT, wallet, and ticketing platform partner to produce a live festival as a preview to future events under the FreakNik® brand and to capture content for the forthcoming documentary.  

Created to radically improve the connection between musicians and their fans, MusicFX meshes perfectly with the positive works of FreakNik® and its fans. Attendees can expect live music, interactive artist activations, vendors, and more through its event partnerships, including GA Followers and Cassie Cope Consulting. Hosted at BonFire ATL, located at 1036 White Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30316, on Sunday, May 7th, from 3 to 8 p.m., tickets for the limited-capacity event will go on sale Friday, April 21st. srmART CONNECT and Explore Brookhaven are pleased to present the second annual Art Pop Up + Shop in Town Brookhaven, a temporary gallery of paintings, mixed media, photography, limited series prints, ceramics, jewelry and more by 30 Atlanta-area artists.  The free exhibition opens April 27 and continues until May 21, 2023, with a special opening reception Friday, April 28, 6PM – 8PM.  

Art advocate and consultant, Sharon Moskowitz of srmART CONNECT looks forward to another successful exhibit. “An art pop-up shop is a great way to network with neighbors and local businesses,” says Moskowitz. “There is incredible value in connecting and interacting with the community in-person, talking about the artwork, and generating sales and future art projects. The economic impact and ‘happy factor’ go hand in hand.” 

Our Brookhaven featured artist is Lauren Loden, artist and encaustic painter, whose work reflects fluid seasons of wonder, loss, rebirth, and letting go. Other Brookhaven artists include Steve Shaw, Len Brown, Bryan Dyker Brown, and Sally W Eppstein.  

The Pop Up will be in a currently available retail space within Town Brookhaven, located on Peachtree Road in the heart of Brookhaven. Art lovers and visitors alike are invited to enjoy this temporary gallery and take home a piece of local art.  

The Art Pop Up + Shop will donate a percentage of proceeds to the Buford Highway Orchestra Project, We Love Buford Highway’s first direct service program that connects music around the educational and social needs of Buford Highway’s youth. Last year’s gallery fulfilled a monetary goal for the Cross Keys Foundation’s Humanities Scholarship Fund.

Meet DoMA’s Mural Artists During a Cocktail and Art Infused Evening

Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 7 p.m. 

 Distillery of Modern Art is hosting another round of Cocktails & Conversation on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Beginning at 7 p.m., guests are invited to mix, mingle, and learn about the murals that are peppered throughout the art-infused distillery, gallery and cocktail lounge. Artists Lela Brunet, Armando Chacon, Courtney Hicks, and Chris Alvarez will be on hand to discuss the inspiration and meaning behind their murals, their bodies of work, background and more. ATLANTANS COME TOGETHER FOR THE SPARK 5K

Inaugural event supports The Kyle Pease Foundation 

Introducing the inaugural Spark 5K, a race with 100% of registration fees and proceeds benefiting The Kyle Pease Foundation’s Inclusive Employment Program. Taking place in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park on Thursday, May 4, the event is hosting more than 30 in-chair athletes, the most participating in any Atlanta 5K to date.

“Partnering with The Kyle Pease Foundation to bring this vibrant 5K to life aligns with Roark’s mission of helping people and companies reach their potential,” Allison Hill, Head of Diversity & Social Responsibility at Roark, explained. “This run is for everyone and we are excited to see so many community members come together for such an incredible cause.” 

With a heavy focus on using the power of sports to create an inclusive experience for all participants, The Kyle Pease Foundation designed the event with the main goal of inclusion taking center stage, allowing the city of Atlanta, in-chair athletes and their push-assist athletes to come together and work towards a common goal.

“Since we created The Kyle Pease Foundation in 2011, we have sought to use sports as a way of providing inclusive opportunities for athletes with disabilities,” Kyle Pease, Founder and Chief Inspirational Officer of The Kyle Pease Foundation, stated. “Thanks to this wonderful partnership with Roark, we are able to achieve our goal of bringing Atlanta a race centered on inclusion and provide tons of athletes with the opportunity to experience the thrill of being part of the competition.”

For a savory breakfast option, shakshuka combines tomato, roasted red pepper, potato and a poached egg atop toasted bread for $15. For something heartier, guests can opt for the brisket hash featuring crispy potato, poached eggs, brava sauce and gremolata for $18.   • The Southern Gentleman offers a variety of delicious dishes for a perfect Mother’s Day brunch. To start, guests can indulge in blueberry and Meyer lemon muffins served with whipped spiced butter.   • Livingston Restaurant & Bar, in the historic Georgia Terrace hotel, is serving an indulgent Mother’s Day brunch buffet in its grand ballroom from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Highlights include a decadent selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts including poached shrimp, roasted beef tenderloin, brown sugar-cured ham, grilled asparagus with saffron aioli and red velvet cake.   • At the intimate Westside sushi restaurant Omakase Table, executive chef Leonard Yu invites moms to have their palates pampered on Mother’s Day. Yu seeks out the freshest ingredients that he meticulously crafts for guests. On Mother’s Day and every day, patrons experience simple things in the moment and an intensely personal connection to the chef and the food he prepares during this revered dining experience. Downtown

  • Ray’s in the City makes mom feel special with a family-style menu served 11 a.m.-7 p.m., featuring house-smoked salmon, signature seafood gumbo, holiday Neuske ham, crab cakes, Southern-style baked mac and cheese and Georgia peach cobbler. Poncey-Highland

  • Instead of long waits and the hectic brunch atmosphere, guests can treat mom to a Mother’s Day evening to remember at Southern Belle, the beloved restaurant known for its delicious cuisine and charming Southern hospitality. The Poncey-Highland eatery will be open from 4:30-8:30 p.m. offering an exclusive tasting menu and an exceptional culinary experience for mom. Alongside its traditional wine pairings, Southern Belle also is offering a delicious rosé flight to celebrate—three different rosés from three different regions so mom can explore an array of vinification methods and varietals. Crabapple/Alpharetta

  • Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails’ all-day Mother’s Day menu boasts a tempting selection of starters, entrees and desserts. From the rich and creamy piquillo pepper crab bisque and classic Caesar salad to the croissant French toast, Nashville hot pickle fried chicken sandwich, Parmesan and black truffle carbonara and strawberry shortcake trifle, the courses are as diverse as they are delicious. The price is $59 for adults and $29.50 for kids, and hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Reservations can be made online.
  • Treat taste buds to a luxurious dining experience with delectable dishes at Ocean & Acre. The wild striped bass served with farro black rice, green garlic and tangerine ($38) is a perfect blend of flavors and textures, and the twin lobster tails stuffed with lump crab, shrimp and bok choy sesame butter ($50) is a must-try.   • Ray’s at Killer Creek helps families show appreciation to the moms in their lives with an award-winning Mother’s Day buffet from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. for $80 per person.   • This Mother’s Day, 5Church Midtown or 5Church Buckhead invite guests for an unforgettable culinary experience. Everyone makes it to the winner’s circle when The Southern Gentleman hosts its annual Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday, May 6. From 4-7 p.m., fans can cheer on their favorite horses with viewing on multiple screens while enjoying Derby-inspired passed bites and beverages including mint juleps. Guests also can join the competition for chances to win prizes in the Derby Day Hat and Best Dressed contests plus other giveaways.

Welcoming spring with open arms, the flower fête of the season is back in Buckhead Village with the second annual show-stopping Bodacious Blooms Flower Festival, running Thursday, April 27 through Sunday, April 30. Stacked with flower power from featured florists East Olivia, New York-based dried and preserved flower shop, and Canaan Marshall, renowned Atlanta-based florist of HBO Max’s “Full Bloom,” the community-wide festival invites visitors to join a “1970’s chic” inspired weekend of far-out floral installations, hands-on floral workshops from master floral designers, stellar in-store activations, exclusive promotions and funky photo-ready moments – all vibrantly designed to celebrate spring in style. 

To celebrate, Jamestown’s Buckhead Village is joining forces with neighboring properties including Andrews Square, Buckhead Commons, Shops Around Lenox, St. Regis Atlanta, Livable Buckhead, 99 West Paces, Atlanta History Center, Sylvan Kimpton Hotel, Path 400, Resurgens Plaza and Buckhead Tower, to create a walkable weekend complete with a budding line-up of ticketed events, open-to-the-public floral displays and over-the-top installations across all properties. 

Bodacious Blooms will feature a retro mural from Dazy LA by designer Dani Dazey. The artwork will complement the chic, dazzling floral installation by East Olivia filled with vibrant colors, shimmering lights and whimsical flowers.

Top floral designer Canaan Marshall will be leading an intimate, hands-on floral arrangement class. As seen on HBO Max’s Full Bloom (S2), Canaan describes this experience as a fantastic introduction for those who are interested in creating a breath-taking arrangement for their own home, or anyone who would like to learn to use everyday floral elements to enhance their next get together. Tickets are $200 per person, and guests will be provided with florals, a vessel and all of the necessary supplies to design a beautiful centerpiece to bring home. In addition to awards for the fastest runners in various age groups, buckheadRUN! includes a “Fastest Fido” category, bandana giveaways for dogs, a pre-race hype event and post-race celebration. Runners are also encouraged to celebrate spring by dressing in flower-themed costumes and garb. Livable Buckhead will award prizes for the best flower costumes.
