Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 2/22/21

The new hospitality venue offers local craft beer, food and unparalleled views at two of the most exciting golf holes at TPC Sugarloaf during Georgia’s only PGA TOUR Champions event

Spectators at this year’s Mitsubishi Electric Classic can catch a bird’s eye view of the action at The Perch, a new open-air covered “hopsitality®” venue presented by Axis Companies.

The Perch gives fans unobstructed views of the 10th green and 11th hole as 81 PGA TOUR Champions professionals compete for a $1.8 million purse at TPC Sugarloaf, one of the region’s most celebrated courses.

“Whether you’re an individual looking for an ‘elevated’ experience or a business that wants to entertain clients, The Perch is the perfect place to take in this year’s tournament,” says Monte Ortel, executive director of the Mitsubishi Electric Classic. “It’s a unique social experience that will let fans feel like they’re part of the action while enjoying specialty offerings from our venue partners Slow Pour Brewing Company, Stillfire Brewing and Tequila Mama.”

Suwanee’s StillFire Brewing and Lawrenceville’s Slow Pour Brewing Company will be pouring delicious craft beers throughout the weekend at The Perch. In addition to standard offerings, StillFire Brewing will release Par 3 Pilsner and Slow Pour Brewing Company will release its Living is Easy sour, both brewed exclusively for the tournament. Additionally, Tequila Mama will serve fan-favorites from its scratch-made multicultural menu.

In response to COVID-19, the Mitsubishi Electric Classic is implementing all State of Georgia and PGA TOUR health guidelines at The Perch, as well as throughout the tournament.

Tickets for The Perch are $125 per day and include two beers and lunch. Liquor, wine and additional beer will be available for purchase inside the venue. All children over the age of two must have a ticket to enter. The venue will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday of tournament week.

More about the tournament:

This preeminent golf tournament features icons of the game, including Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie

Georgia’s premier PGA TOUR Champions event is set to return to Duluth this May, featuring the same exciting level of play on one of the region’s most storied courses.

The tournament, which debuted in 2013 and continues to build on Atlanta’s rich golf heritage, is a family-friendly affair where spectators can see their favorite seasoned players in-person and enjoy social events throughout the week, making it an environment that all can enjoy.

“The tournament has something for everyone,” says Monte Ortel, executive director of the Mitsubishi Electric Classic. “Serious fans look forward to the household names who compete, and casual viewers enjoy the multi-day social atmosphere. Additionally, players love it because they’re intimately familiar with TPC Sugarloaf since the course was home to the PGA TOUR’s AT&T Classic from 1997 to 2008.”

The 54 hole tournament will feature 81 PGA TOUR Champions professionals vying for a $1.8 million prize purse and to improve their standing in the Charles Schwab Cup points list. The full field will be announced over the coming weeks.

Past champions include World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer (2013); Spain’s Miguel Ángel Jiménez (2014); Olin Browne (2015); Woody Austin (2016); Stephen Ames (2017); Steve Flesch (2018); and Scott McCarron (2019), who used his Mitsubishi Electric Classic victory as a launching pad towards his first Charles Schwab Cup.

“While we’re proud of the caliber of player we attract, the Mitsubishi Electric Classic is much more than a golf tournament,” says Keijiro Hora, president and CEO Mitsubishi Electric US Holdings Inc. “This event is very much charity-focused, and we’re proud that our giving remains in Gwinnett County and the surrounding metro Atlanta areas to help positively impact the local community.”

Since its first iteration in 2013, the annual tournament has raised over $2.5 million dollars for local charities, including primary beneficiaries, Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Additionally, the Mitsubishi Electric Classic offers participation in the Birdies for Charity program, providing additional local non-profit organizations with an opportunity to raise additional funds to support their missions. For more information on Birdies for Charity and to make a pledge/donation, visit: mitsubishielectricclassic.com/charity/birdies-for-charity/.

In response to COVID-19, the Mitsubishi Electric Classic is following all State of Georgia and PGA TOUR health guidelines to ensure the safety of athletes, fans, staff and everyone else involved with the tournament. A full list of safety protocols will be released in the coming weeks.

This year’s tournament is the first in a five-year partnership extension between Mitsubishi Electric and the PGA TOUR Champions. The extension includes the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, as well as status as an official marketing partner with the PGA TOUR.
