GOLDEN EAGLE NOW OPEN IN ATLANTA’S REYNOLDSTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 11/12/17

Located Next To Its Newly Opened Sister Spot, Muchacho

Both Restaurants Are From Michael Lennox, Owner of Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall

Golden Eagle is now open in Atlanta’s Reynoldstown neighborhood. The restaurant is from Michael Lennox, owner of Atlanta favorite Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall, and opens directly onto the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail. Along with its sister spot, newly opened Muchacho, Golden Eagle is housed in a former rail depot at 904 Memorial Drive. Featuring distinct menus and design, the two restaurants are separated by an interior brick wall and share an expansive brick patio.

Lennox, an Atlanta native, is developing Golden Eagle largely as an homage to his grandparents, with a buttoned-down, retro aesthetic that channels the diamond-in-the-rough watering holes, neighborhood corner taverns and hotel lobby bars they would frequent in their native Pittsburgh. The restaurant showcases a dark, moody interior with wall-to-wall red plaid carpet, glowing custom lighting, low-slung crushed velvet seating all anchored by a large U-shaped bar and antique Art Deco backbar serving an extensive cocktail menu of accessible, boozy classics.

The food menu will recall no-nonsense, throwback continental classics of yesteryear, such as garlic knots, crab Rangoon, and charbroiled oysters, as well as thoughtful, shareable vegetable plates and a few larger items such as ricotta gnocchi and a tavern steak. Tall ceilings expose the building’s existing steel trusses, and woodgrain cabinet speakers will stream music from a reel-to-reel tape player. An outdoor patio comes alive with lush, tropical plants, vintage outdoor furniture and red and white umbrellas.

Key members of Golden Eagle’s team include Taria Camerino as Culinary Director (formerly of Sugar Coated Radical, Ford Fry Restaurants, Resurgens Hospitality and Tate Modern in London); Jason Simpson as Chef de Cuisine (formerly of St. Cecilia and Chef Josiah Citrin’s two-star Michelin restaurant Melisse in L.A.); Jeff Stockton as Bar Manager (formerly of Empire State South and top bartending programs in NYC); Nicholas Bown-Crawford as General Manager (formerly of Le Fat, Ton Ton, One Rooster, Concentrics Restuarants and Murphy’s).

Golden Eagle’s sister spot, Muchacho, is a casual hangout with a nod to 70’s era Venice Beach. The restaurant features a color palette of orange, yellow, and white, and counter service offers breakfast and lunch tacos, toasts, grain bowls, poke, pastries, coffee, and drinks.

Come Together & Misfit Right In: The Mean, Green Grinch Returns to Ponce City Market for a Three-Week Bender of Bad Holiday Behavior

Watch the Grinch’s Heart Grow, Attend a Misfit Parade on the Atlanta BeltLine, Go to the City’s Naughtiest Party, Join Holiday Workshops & Much More

The Grinch is back for another year of holiday mis-behavior at Ponce City Market, and he begrudgingly invites you to come together, shop together, stay together, play together and misfit right in! Atlanta’s historic community destination in Old Fourth Ward announces its 2017 holiday spectacular. Help the Grinch’s heart grow through the power of community. Expect three weeks of mischief all over the city of Atlanta, culminating in a “naughty vs. nice” Beltline face-off between Santa and the Grinch on Friday after Thanksgiving before the duo settles into their respective thrones on the second floor of Ponce City Market to greet their fans. The boldest holiday celebration in the Southeast is always free and open to the public.

Festivities include:

Fri., Nov. 3rd – Sat., Nov. 24th:

GRINCH GREETINGS – Dodge the Grinch around the city! Look for the mean, green one himself riding around Atlanta in Ponce City Market’s iconic Ford Bronco, delivering guerrilla “compliment” cards commending civilian culprits on their dis-service.

DYNAMIC HEART COUNTDOWN & “INSTA-LLATION” – Find fractured green hearts scattered around Atlanta, and watch as a larger-than-life heart art “insta-llation” grows live on Instagram by following @ATLMisfit (psst…keep an eye on the Krog Street Tunnel, too!)

Sat., Nov. 17th – Sun., Dec. 20th

BIG NICK’S TREE LOT & HOLIDAY VILLAGE – Join Santa and the King of Pops Tree Elves at the best Christmas tree lot in town! The Ponce City Market South Lawn (facing North Ave.) will transform, boasting a holiday forest full of fresh trees for purchase. Carry your tree right off the lot or have the Tree Elves deliver to your home! The tree lot will be open from 11am-8pm Monday – Saturday and 11am-6pm on Sundays.

Mon., Nov. 20th – Weds., Feb. 14th

SKATE THE SKY – The Roof at Ponce City Market invites you to “Skate the Sky.” High above Ponce de Leon Avenue and overlooking the Atlanta Beltline and Old Fourth Ward, Rooftop Terrace will transform into a rooftop winter wonderland. Guests will be able to enter the ice rink as a walk-in from Skyline Park ($10 for adults; $7 for kids 12 and under) or Nine Mile Station. Hours for the rink will be Sunday from noon to 9 p.m., Monday through Wednesday from 3 to 10 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 3 to 11 p.m., with 21+ only access after 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The ice rink will be available to rent for corporate events or holiday parties during the day.

Fri., Nov. 24th:

NAUGHTY VS. NICE PARADE – Are you naughty or nice? It’s time to choose a team! His heart now three sizes larger (track it on instagram), the Grinch is on a mission to SLAY-ride along the Atlanta BeltLine. If you’re feeling naughty, the public is invited to meet him at 10:30 am with raucous brass/hip-hop band John Boy + Surround Sound and his merry band of misfits in tow, and follow the Green Grand Marshall as he leads community participants with LED balloons from Krog Street all the way down the Beltline to Ponce City Market. Feeling kinder? March with Santa instead on team nice! The parade will culminate with a grand finale arrival at The Shed at Ponce City Market for the official holiday kickoff at noon.

THE NAUGHTY LIST PARTY – Only the naughtiest will be given admission to this late-night event, including burlesque performers and local DJs to set the mood as food and drinks from Ponce City Market restaurants are served in the Atlanta Gallery Collective, Ponce City Market’s second-floor pop-up art gallery open through the holidays. Stay tuned for a ticket link.

Fri., Nov. 24th – Sat., Dec. 23rd

THE GRINCH IN RESIDENCE – Popcorn! Bicycles! Roller skates! Drums! The Grinch will be in residence all season long inside his hip in-town lair on the second floor alcove above the Central Food Hall. Your family is invited to take pictures and engage with the green furry one.

SANTA’S WORKSHOPS – Watch social media for the hashtag #SantasWorkshopsPCM. Santa’s workshops mean naughty and nice holiday fun, from wrapping paper stations to candle-making classes, in Ponce City Market retail stores all season long. Jazz up your Mount Crumpit-destined items with wrapping paper, gift tags, and other Santa swag.
