NETHERWORLD HAUNTED HOUSE RETURNS FOR SPECIAL VALENTINES DAY EVENT 2020

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 1/19/20

For One Night Only on Saturday, February 15, NIGHT OF THE GORGON
Reopens for Final Time to Bring You Scream in the Dark

Make your Valentine’s Day one to remember this year with tickets to NETHERWORLD Haunted House’s Scream in the Dark on Saturday, February 15. Housed inside of last year’s feature haunt NIGHT OF THE GORGON, Scream in the Dark will be crawling with classic horror and topped off with Hollywood-level special effects and nightmare-inducing creatures lurking in almost total darkness! Take the average Valentine’s Day gifts, roses and chocolates, to the next level with this one-of-a-kind event where you and your loved ones will embark on a journey through the haunt with only a small battery powered candle to help guide your way. This feeble light will be the only thing standing between you and swarms of monsters lurking in the gloom delivering the shocks and surprises you expect from a journey through NETHERWORLD. Even if you’ve already ventured through NIGHT OF THE GORGON earlier this year, the sharply reduced lighting and limited timed admission create a very different experience that many find to be even more terrifying than the October seasonal show.

“Once Halloween is over, we love brainstorming on how to add new twists to the attractions for our Christmas and Valentine’s shows. Taking away almost all external illumination and supplying a small candle really alters the experience by making the guests more vulnerable yet empowering them with a source of light. But sometimes the one holding the candle attracts even more monsters so watch out!” said Ben Armstrong, NETHERWORLD Haunted House Co-Creator. “This will be the last time for guests to walk through NIGHT OF THE GORGON before we radically redesign the attraction for the 2020 season so come out and Scream in the Dark with us.”

This can’t-miss event will be limited capacity, so be sure to purchase your tickets ahead of time. Tickets are on sale now at www.fearworld.com and are $25.95. A limited number of SpeedPasses will be available for $39.95. In order to allow guests to make the most of their evening, tickets will be sold in the following half hour time slots: 6:30pm, 7:00pm, 7:30pm, 8:00pm, 8:30pm, and 9:00pm.

“We always strive to improve the customer experience in any way we can,” said NETHERWORLD Haunted House Co-Creator Billy Messina. “We’ll certainly have plenty of fun on tap at NETHERWORLD, but if dinner plans or other entertainment options are also on the night’s agenda, offering timed tickets to Scream in the Dark will no doubt help make planning the evening’s festivities a bit easier.”

If being plunged into darkness isn’t your idea of a romantic time, perhaps the adrenaline rush of working together to beat the clock in one of NETHERWORLD’s exciting Escape Rooms is more your speed. Try your luck at one of four Escape Rooms including Tiki Island: Attack of the Shark God, Sasquatch: Bigfoot’s Revenge, Nosferatu: Van Helsing’s Secret or Haunted: Curse of the Night Hag. Learn more at www.EscapetheNetherworld.com. In addition to Scream in the Dark and the Escape Rooms, NETHERWORLD will also unveil an exciting new One-Night-Only Laser Adventure in the COLD BLOODED attraction on the 15th. And of course, their freaky fun museum of monsters, expansive Gift Shop and carnival-like midway will also be open.

UniTea & Coffee at 640 West: Welcome to Veganville!

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 1/19/20

With UniTea & Coffee at 640 West, Tassili Raw Reality Cafe, Slutty Vegan, and Soul, West End is THE destination for Vegan-centric cuisine in all of Atlanta. Could we just call it Veganville? On the upswing around Atlanta, Vegan options are a healthy alternative to high fat and calorie alternatives with the introduction of products like Just Eggs made of mung bean (legume family) and tapioca or meatless bacon (bean base, as well). Plus, they’re so tasty, you won’t miss the real thing. Vegans DO NOT skimp on flavor; we are here to change your mind on that! Get ready! UniTea & Coffee at 640 West is serving high-end, top notch, delicious Vegan versions of burritos, avocado toast, to their signature dish McVegan. Let’s see what we found on our Vegan adventure.

Starting this the Avocado Toast, generous helpings of fresh-made avocado topped on top of rye bread is a vegan-protein rich, simple dish that is creamy up front with the tang of onion and balsamic in the middle with earthiness of the rye on back. Typically, not big on rye bread, the addition of avocado pairs well with it and actually adds to the enjoyment of the dish. Following this light brunch staple is the Fiesta Burrito. A mix of Just Egg’s savory, hard polenta-like consistency with a mung bean crispy bacon, paprika mushroom, pico de gallo, sriracha sauce aioli, all wrapped up in a delicious shell. As one bite, it’s one of the best breakfast burritos in all the city, real egg or not. Spicy, savory, sweet, yum.

Who doesn’t love a good egg, sausage or bacon sandwich on English muffin? Enter the McVegan! From the made in house vegan egg to the Mung Bean Bacon, the salty and tart of the kale salad, crunchy and toasted Vegan English Muffin and the best garlic aioli we’ve had in a very long time round out this outstanding Vegan dish. Elevated breakfast sandwich at it’s best, easily the best thing at UniTea & Coffee at 640 West. It’s well-balanced between the sweet, savory, salty and you add that garlic aioli on the end just accentuates it all. Wowza! Insert heart eye emoji here.

Beyond the delicious fare, Chef Deuce is making awesome, home-made aiolis in house that accentuate the vegan fare at UniTea. Plus, did you know they decorate their dishes with edible flowers from the cucumber family? You can eat EVERYTHING on the plate. UniTea & Coffee at 640 West recently had a grand re-opening and now is serving their delicious hot vegan breakfast all day until 6pm. On top of the vegan breakfast, they pride themselves on bettering the community through good food, a place for the community gather, live music/events, and more. Chef Deuce is out of LA and originally was over at their sister restaurant, Tassili’s Raw Reality Cafe. He is a gracious and warm host and we can’t wait to see where he goes in Atlanta!

Der Biergarten: Gluhwein and a Side of Sauerkraut

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 1/16/19

Move over hot sauce, there’s a new elevated condiment in town, Sauerkraut! We made our way downtown to visit Der Biergarten to taste their German-centric fare and sip on their holiday cocktails. From affordable and delicious meat and cheese plates (Gemischte Wurst Und Käseplatte) to a perfectly cooked pork shank (Schweinshaxe) to something we never knew we loved, Sauerkraut, as well as a hot holiday drink tradition Glühwein, Der Biergarten is an immersive German experience in the heart of Atlanta. Ready for an adventure?

Starting with the sips, being during the holidays, they had everything form a spicy cocoa, red beer in a take-home boot, and our favorite find of the night: Glühwein. This traditional winter and holiday drink from Germany that drinks like a hot Sangria, a mix of red wine and spices. It was warm on the cold night and totally different than anything we’ve had before, with the savory, sweet of the red wine and earthiness of the clove spice on the back end. It doesn’t sound like something we’d ever like but surprised us! Along with a great selection of German bier, wine, and fun cocktails, try something new!

Who doesn’t like a good meat and cheese plate? This one was chocked full of jaeger, which is a German dry-aged traditional sausage, hard cheeses, plus a lot of bread to pair it with. We felt this was a REALLY good deal for the price and John decided this was one of the best meat and cheese plates in the city. He knows; he’s a charcuterie fanatic. Also enjoyed the pretzel (Risenbretzel) which was buttery, salty, warm, and hearty. Make sure to use the mustards they bring, as well. Go sweet the with the Bavarian Mustard or spicy with the spicy Mustard. Either way, a good tasty bite.

Then there’s the pork shank. The way it was cooked, rotisserie style with skin on, locks in the flavor and tenderness of the meat, while interesting mix of spices like clove and an herb that taste of licorice, give the crust a rich, unique flavor. Mix it with the savory au jus and the side of sauerkraut. That hits the spot. Speaking of the sauerkraut, not typically a favorite, this was the best we’ve ever found with that typical sour vinegar flavor on the back but hidden for most of the bite by the utilization of bacon. Yes, bacon! It’s savory and sour and a good accoutrement to the savory of the pork. Insert mind blown emoji here.

Are you hungry yet? We are! Meet us down at Der Biergarten!
