Dragon Con, celebrating its 40th anniversary as Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy, sci-fi, and gaming convention, has named author Timothy Zahn and artist Tony DiTerlizzi as its 2026 Literary and Artist Guests of Honor.

Dragon Con’s 2026 convention runs from Thursday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 7 with events and activities across five host hotels – Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree, and Courtland Grand Hotel – and AmericasMart Buildings 2 and 3.

Since its first convention in 1987, Dragon Con has spotlighted the authors and artists whose creative contributions have breathed life into the realms of fantasy and science fiction as Literary and Artist Guests of Honor. Both Zahn and DiTerlizzi will be recognized throughout the event and will be on hand to meet fans and participate in panels to provide insight into their success and love of fandom.

Zahn is a Hugo Award winning and New York Times bestselling author whose work has helped define modern science fiction. A member of the Dragon Con family since his first appearance in 1995, Zahn is best known for creating the iconic Grand Admiral Thrawn and the bestselling Thrawn Trilogy. He has written more than 60 novels, nearly 90 works of short fiction, and multiple collections, with over eight million copies of his books in print. The Upper Westside destination will celebrate the Fourth of July with free hot dogs, music, art and more

To celebrate the Fourth of July this year, The Works is rewinding through the decades with its All American Throwback event. Held on Saturday, July 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Camp, the event will feature live music, free hot dogs for the first 100 guests from Patty and Franks, and red, white, and blue giveaways – fitting for a classic American summer. Guests are also encouraged to snap a photo at the custom Bomb Pop mural on The Spur by local muralist Jessi Queen. Those who post a photo with the mural and tag @theworksatl will be entered to win a prize pack. Winners will be announced on August 3, 2026.

All American Throwback is the first event of The Works’ Retro Summer Series, which also includes Turntable Thursdays, a series where DJ Steve will spin classic tunes and host retro games every Thursday in July and August from 6 to 8 p.m. in The Camp, as well as themed nostalgia-driven activations running throughout August.

House Patrick TCG Expo is coming to the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds Expo Center on August 1–2, 2026, for a weekend dedicated to trading cards, collectibles, and the hobby we all love. We are also excited to announce that we are teaming up with the Dream Asia Food Festival to provide food and merch vendors on top of our trading card vendors.

Featuring over 20,000 square feet of vendor space, the expo will bring together vendors and collectors from across the Southeast for two days of buying, selling, trading, and connecting. Sat., July 4, 6-11pm – Stars, Sips and Skyline: Fourth of July Rooftop Celebration at St. Julep

Guests are invited to celebrate the Fourth of July at St. Julep, the iconic rooftop atop the Kimpton Sylvan Hotel in Buckhead. From 6-11pm, attendees can experience skyline views, festive vibes and a front-row seat for the fireworks. The evening will also feature a live DJ spinning summer hits. Limited tickets (here) are $45 per person and include a welcome “Red, White & Boozy” cocktail with Grey Goose and BBQ bites, tastings from Grey Goose and festive party favors. A full bar with specialty cocktails will also be available for purchase.

Sat., July 4, 11am-Midnight – The Roof at Ponce City Market’s “Rooftop Rodeo” Fourth of July & 10th Anniversary Celebration

The Roof at Ponce City Market is celebrating a milestone year with its biggest Independence Day event yet. On Saturday, July 4, guests are invited to experience Rooftop Rodeo, an all-day celebration honoring three major milestones: America’s 250th birthday, Independence Day and the 10-year anniversary of The Roof.  

From 11am until midnight, The Roof will transform into a patriotic rooftop playground featuring live entertainment, western-inspired activities, contests, specialty food and beverage offerings and panoramic views of the Atlanta skyline.

Delbar Buckhead invites guests to celebrate both July 4 and the Peachtree Road Race with them. The Fourth of July has extra-special meaning this year as part of America’s 250th and Mimms Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the holiday, giving local residents and visitors alike the chance to cool off and enjoy unique activities.
