Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art to host Chalktoberfest:

90+ national and international chalk artists, public chalk competition, beer festival, live music, and much more. Fun for the whole family!

MARIETTA, GA: October 14-15, 2017, Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art (MCMA) presents its annual Chalktoberfest on the Marietta Square in Downtown Marietta. The Chalktoberfest theme is “Bring your A-Game” and will feature over 90 professional chalk artists from around the US, Italy, Ukraine, Mexico and Canada. Artists will dazzle spectators from 10a.m. to 5 p.m. during the two day event.  Featured chalk artists include but are not limited to, the world renowned Tracy Lee Stum who has won numerous awards and written her own book entitled The Art of Chalk. Vera Bugatti from Italy has been featured in several books including Sidewalk Canvas, Street Art, and the Art of Chalk. Valentina Sforzini from Italy has also competed in festivals all over the world, won numerous events, and in 2010 and 2012 won first place in the Sarasota Chalk festival where she was featured in a documentary about the “Street Painting World”. These three plus many more award winning and established professional artists bring the street to life!

 

On Saturday Oct. 14th only, Chalktoberfest includes the annual Craft Beer Festival, with a selection of more than 100 different craft beers. The Craft Beer Festival allows visitors to walk around and enjoy the chalk art while drinking samples.  MCMA encourages guests to visit local restaurants and talk to professional artists from around the country as they create their masterpieces.  Enjoy live music all day and an after-hours concert in the Park featuring Doug Cameron and his 17 piece Orchestra.  Go to the Chalktoberfest Website to purchase concert tables and craft beer tickets. www.chalktoberfest.com

 

On Sunday, Oct.15th beginning at 10am, Chalktoberfest kicks off the Creative Kids Craft-making Competition for children of all ages.  It is a non-professional Chalk Competition with Youth, Teen, School, and Adult Divisions. Winners will be announced at 3:00pm. The professional chalk area will be available to view until 8:00pm Sunday night.

“Chalktoberfest enables us to fulfill our mission of ‘Building Community Through Art’ and we have been overwhelmed by the positive response from the community with regards to what we are presenting,” states Sally Macaulay, Executive Director of MCMA. “MCMA anticipates a record turn out once again in 2017.”

 

The 2016 Chalktoberfest was awarded Festival of the Year by Cobb Life Magazine, having brought in over 70,000 visitors and resulting in an economic impact of over 5.2 million dollars. Additionally, Chalktoberfest was awarded the Mayor’s Art Award for the City of Marietta and Event of the Year through Cobb Travel and Tourism in 2016. Admission to MCMA is free for the duration of the festival.

Celebrate Halloween all month long at Ponce City Market with a variety of themed food, drinks, events, and more throughout October! A little spooky and a little sweet, festivities are sure to please Halloween revelers with a whole lot of treats. The building itself will also be decked out in dazzling and spine-chilling décor.

Events include:

  • ATLANTA GALLERY COLLECTIVE — Kicking off during Halloween weekend, Ponce City Market is hosting a free and open-to-the-public pop-up gallery that will showcase the best of Atlanta’s contemporary art scene. The space will feature works from ten of the city’s top art galleries and will take up residence throughout the holidays on Ponce City Market’s second floor in the Central Food Hall.A flagship exhibit will include a photography show with portraits of James Beard Award-winning and nominated chefs and mixologists from around the Southeast. Each photographed by Erik Tanner, a Brooklyn-based, world-renowned photographer, talent includes Hugh Acheson, Greg Best, Sean Brock, Ford Fry, Anne Quatrano, Kevin Gillespie, Asha Gomez, Linton Hopkins, Meherwan Irani, Miles MacQuarrie, Hector Santiago, and Steven Satterfield.
  • SUNDAY SUPPER SOUTH — The 8th annual James Beard Foundation benefit is back with a special “Arachnophobia” theme. Join Host Chefs Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison on Sunday, Oct. 29th for a family-style dinner with a roster of the South’s brightest culinary talent. Stay tuned for more details.
  • DAY OF THE DEAD ON THE ROOF — On Saturday, October 28th, Skyline Park and the Rooftop Terrace at Ponce City Market are hosting a spooky Day of the Dead-themed Halloween bash, 21+ only. Tickets and more info are available here.
  • TRICK-OR-TREAT — On Tuesday, October 31st, bring the kids for an evening of trick-or-treating at Ponce City Market, where restaurants and shops are stocking up on over one thousand pounds of candy! In addition, the neighborhood’s little monsters from The Suzuki School will parade in costume through Ponce City Market’s courtyard and Central Food Hall.
  • HALLOWEEN DOG PORTRAITS — Atlantans and their dressed-up pups are invited to stop by The Shed at Ponce City Market, located just off the Atlanta BeltLine, for complimentary Halloween-themed dog portraits by a local photographer.
  • KING OF POPS BAR & GOOD GRUB — Visit King of Pops Bar inside Ponce City Market’s Central Food Hall for a “spooky cocktail,” designed to kickstart your night of fun.
  • THE FORUM ATHLETIC CLUB — Don’t wait ‘til Halloween to be a beast! Throughout October, The Forum Athletic Club at Ponce City Market is waiving membership down payments.
