Available now through November 2 for $9 across all Mellow Mushroom participating locations, the Wicked Wizard is made with Don Q Cristal Rum, fresh sour, lime juice, Mellow’s Moondust syrup (made with blue spirulina & Monin Dragon fruit syrup), cream of coconut, coconut milk & blueberry flavored popping pearls. It’s garnished with a thick sugar rim.

irtue Rooftop is bringing Halloween to new heights with its Rooftop Halloween Party on Saturday, October 31, inviting Atlanta guests to embrace their alter egos for an unforgettable night above the city. “Virtue Has Left the Chat”. The event will combine immersive Halloween décor, DJ Nikki Montana, specialty cocktails, and a costume competition with a $1,000 cash prize for first place.

Running from 8 p.m. until late, the 21-and-over event will transform Virtue Rooftop into a surreal Halloween experience with dramatic red lighting, ghostly projections, atmospheric décor, and a signature photo moment. SWEET AUBURN BARBECUE FIRES UP THE MCDONOUGH BBQ & BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

The Hsu Siblings Return to Their Henry County Roots for An Afternoon of Barbecue,

Live Music, Family-Friendly Activities and Friendly Competition

Sweet Auburn Barbecue is bringing the smoke home. On Saturday, October 10, sibling owners Howard and Anita Hsu will host the inaugural McDonough BBQ & Bluegrass Festival from noon to 4 p.m. at Sweet Auburn Barbecue’s McDonough location in Henry Town Center.

The festival will bring together barbecue restaurants, pitmasters and pop-ups from across Georgia, each serving a menu created for the occasion. The lineup includes Sweet Auburn Barbecue, Terminus City Barbecue, Dhaba BBQ and NO Sauce Smokehouse.

Sweet Auburn Barbecue will serve Chinese Spare Ribs, Wu Tang Wings, Smoked Braised Brisket and Smokehouse Fried Rice. Dhaba BBQ will bring its Indian-inspired approach to the smoker with Tandoori Chicken Sandos, Tikka Pulled Pork and Nihari Oxtails. Terminus City Barbecue, the Eastern North Carolina-style barbecue concept, will serve Chopped Smoked Pork, BBQ Chicken Fritters and Potato Salad. NO Sauce Smokehouse will round out the lineup with its Sloppy Toppy Sandwich, Lobster Mac and Hot Honey Smoked Wings.

Guests can taste their way through the festival before casting their vote in the People’s Choice competition to crown a festival favorite. Dusty Roads will perform live bluegrass throughout the afternoon, with Jason “JT” Thompson serving as the festival MC. Family-friendly attractions will include a Kids Zone, a fire engine and a lineup of local vendors. Select ticketed guests will also have the chance to take home prizes throughout the day.

For Howard and Anita, hosting the festival in McDonough is a return to where their family’s restaurant story began. Their parents opened Hunan Village in Henry County in 1980, the county’s first Chinese restaurant, establishing roots in the community that have now spanned more than four decades. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Howard and Anita continued the family tradition by opening their first restaurant, Gezzo’s, in McDonough. Sweet Auburn Barbecue later began with a food truck and a stall inside Atlanta’s historic Sweet Auburn Curb Market before the Hsu’s opened the restaurant’s Poncey-Highland flagship in 2014. In December 2022, they brought Sweet Auburn Barbecue back to Henry County with the opening of its second location in McDonough.

“Anita and I didn’t just grow up in Henry County. We grew up in its restaurants,” says Sweet Auburn Barbecue co-owner Howard Hsu. “Our parents put us to work early, and that’s where we learned how food can bring an entire community together. We invited some pitmasters we really respect to come cook with us, and we’re going to let everyone eat, listen to some great music and argue over who makes the best barbecue. That sounds like a pretty great Saturday to me.”

The McDonough location combines traditional Southern barbecue with the Asian influences and family traditions that have shaped Sweet Auburn Barbecue from the beginning. Those roots can be found in dishes including the pimento cheese wontons, brisket egg rolls and Smokehouse Fried Rice, all inspired in part by the flavors and food Howard and Anita grew up around at Hunan Village.

“One of the best parts of being in the restaurant business is having the opportunity to support other people,” says Sweet Auburn Barbecue co-owner Anita Hsu. “There is so much talent in this lineup, and every team has worked hard to create food that is completely their own. We get to share that with Henry County, celebrate the people behind it and have a lot of fun along the way. If everyone leaves full and finds a new favorite, we’ve done our job.”

The Avenue Peachtree City today announced its lineup of fall events, including the grand finale of its First Fridays live music series, and the annual Fall Festival. Throughout the season, guests can enjoy live entertainment, family-friendly activities and special offerings throughout the center.

As the dog days of summer come to a close, Atlanta pups are invited to make a splash at the Piedmont Park Conservancy’s Splish Splash Doggie Bash, Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026. The Piedmont Park Aquatic Center will once again welcome four-legged swimmers for a weekend of fun in the water, giving dogs one last chance to take a dip before the pool closes for the season.

With four daily swim sessions, pups will enjoy plenty of play, wagging tails and end-of-season fun. Splish Splash Doggie Bash also supports the care and improvement of Piedmont Park’s off-leash dog parks, helping keep these spaces safe, clean and welcoming year-round.

WHEN: Saturday, October 3 – Sunday, October 4

Sessions (for both days): 9:30–10:45 a.m., 11 a.m.–12:15 p.m., 12:30–1:45 p.m.

Saturday final session: 1:50–3:10 p.m.

Sunday final session: 2 –3:15 p.m.

Cosmos and Zinnias Sweep Acorss the Wildflower Meadow as Monarch Butterflies Make Their Annual Journey South

New Sections of the Meadow Bloom Every Two Weeks Through November

Monarch butterflies are beginning their fall migration through North Georgia, and Gibbs Gardens is ready with acres of pollinator-friendly flowers in bloom. Cosmos and zinnias are opening across rolling hillsides in waves of color now through early November. Eastern monarchs will pass over the state on their way to the forest of central Mexico, a journey of up to 3,000 miles from summer breeding grounds in the Northern United States and Canada.

Migrating monarchs rely on nectar every day to fuel their flight, and they have to spot it from above. Each year, Gibbs Gardens plants broad swaths of brightly colored flowers in its Wildflower Meadow to attract them. Gibbs began reshaping the meadow into a pollinator garden in 2021 and expanded its cosmos and butterfly plantings from three to 15 acres. Milkweed, the native butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa), is planted in and around the meadow. It is the only plant on which monarchs will lay their eggs and the only food their caterpillars will eat.

“Color attracts the monarch butterflies, luring them down lower to find food sources,” said Jim Gibbs, owner and developer of Gibbs Gardens. “We’re no longer surprised to see thousands of monarchs suddenly swoop down en masse and settle on the flowers planted for them in the Wildflower Meadow.”

More than a showstopper for visitors, the Wildflower Meadow plays an important role in reestablishing needed habitat for pollinators. Millions of cosmos, zinnias, and other blooms are planted in succession. The sections are timed to bloom every two weeks now through November to provide an ongoing source of nectar, pollen, and a place to rest for bees and butterflies. Cosmos and zinnias are opening now, with more color expected to spread across the hillsides in coming weeks.

Monarchs are not the only winged visitors to watch for. Eastern Black Swallowtails, Eastern Tiger Swallowtails, Painted Ladies, and Red Admirals are among the butterflies that can be spotted around the Wildflower Meadow.

This fall, visitors can experience the Wildflower Meadow as new sections come into bloom week to week. Early blooms are already drawing several butterfly species, and as successive plantings open across the hillside, the color will continue building into October and November.

Gibbs Gardens is located at 1987 Gibbs Drive in Ball Ground, Georgia, and is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open days vary by season, so visitors should check gibbsgardens.com for current days, admission, and the online Bloom Calendar, including bloom updates through November. The Great Fall Festival and Movie Series Presented by Xfinity bring seasonal entertainment to the Plaza Green this October and November

The Battery Atlanta is welcoming fall with free, family-friendly events on the Plaza Green, from outdoor movie nights to Halloween festivities. The Movie Series Presented by Xfinity returns beginning Oct. 2, with family-friendly films under the stars, while The Great Fall Festival brings Truck-or-Treat, local vendors, seasonal activities and a special movie screening on Oct. 25.

Costumes are encouraged, and families are invited to bring treat bags.

Following the festival, guests can remain on the Plaza Green for a special showing of Minions & Monsters at 5:30 p.m. as part of the Movie Series Presented by Xfinity.
