TIO LUCHO’S SETS THE TABLE FOR PERUVIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 7/23/26

Atlanta’s First Peruvian-American Restaurant Celebrates with Limited-Time Specials, the Return of the Fan-Favorite Plancha Platter and Four Days of Festivities

Saturday, July 25 through Tuesday, July 28

Tio Lucho’s is bringing one of Peru’s biggest celebrations to Atlanta with four days of fresh ceviche, pisco cocktails, seasonal specials and the return of the fan-favorite Plancha Platter in honor of Peruvian Independence Day. From Saturday, July 25 through Tuesday, July 28, James Beard Award semifinalist Chef Arnaldo Castillo invites guests to celebrate the holiday at Atlanta’s first Peruvian-American restaurant, where every dish reflects the flavors, traditions and hospitality that have shaped Peru’s culinary identity.

For Castillo, Peruvian Independence Day is more than a national holiday. It’s a chance to share the food and traditions that inspired Tio Lucho’s while welcoming guests to experience the culture that continues to influence every aspect of the restaurant. Throughout the weekend, the celebration will feature fresh ceviche on the patio, seasonal specials, festive cocktails and a dining room dressed in the colors of the Peruvian flag with red and white décor and carnations.

“Peruvian Independence Day is one of my favorite times of the year because it gives us the opportunity to share a piece of Peru with Atlanta,” says Chef Arnaldo Castillo. “Whether someone has been eating Peruvian food their whole life or they’re trying it for the first time, I want them to leave with a better understanding of our culture and the hospitality that has always been part of it.”

Back by popular demand, the Plancha Platter returns after becoming one of last year’s most requested specials. Built for sharing, the feast features an 8-ounce New York strip steak, chicken and fish anticuchos, grilled tripe, crispy potatoes, choclo corn, chimichurri and huancaína. The platter will be available throughout the weekend, offered during his Monday Hermanita pop-up on Monday and served again on Tuesday, July 28, the official Peruvian Independence Day.

Tio Lucho’s is located at 675 N. Highland Ave. NE, Suite 6000, Atlanta, GA 30306. For more information or to make a reservation, visit at tioluchos.com. Stay connected at @tioluchos on Instagram for updates and happenings.

GREG MENDEZ ON TOUR PLAYING AISLE 5 ATLANTA – AUGUST 1

RELEASES NEW ALBUM

BEAUTY LAND

TODAY VIA DEAD OCEANS

EXPANDS 2026 TOUR DATES

WATCH VIDEO FOR ALBUM STANDOUT “SO MEAN

“In less than two minutes, Greg Mendez can express a lifetime’s worth of pain, regret, and resilience.” -Pitchfork

“It’s at once a grandiose and understated… Mendez’s severe lyrical specificity opens up entire worlds in which the listener can find themselves.”
-Rolling Stone

“In Mendez’s hands, coming to terms with the worst of times has led to music so grippingly human, you’ll want to hear him grapple with his demons on an endless loop.”
-NPR

“Mendez’s unrefined, plaintive voice, his piercing melodies, and his conversational but haunting lyrics all mark him out as one of the best songwriters to come out of a city teeming with great songwriters.” -Stereogum

“The best songwriters can take visceral moments from their lives and bend them to the palettes of the people listening to them unfold, so they can inject themselves into these spaces; Mendez’s ability to leave that door cracked for the rest of us is what makes him one of our subtlest geniuses.”
-Paste

“Nakedly honest and gently strummed indie rock confessionals.”
-The FADER

“Sweet, melancholic, and perfectly understated”

-Consequence

Greg Mendez releases his anticipated new album, Beauty Land, today via Dead Oceans. On Beauty Land, Mendez perfects his raw and quietly devastating sound, as evidenced by the album’s singles “I Wanna Feel Pretty,” “Gentle Love / Frog,” “No Evil,” and “So Mean,” released today alongside an understatedly heartbreaking video directed by Luke LeCount, shot on 16mm film in Wildwood, NJ and at Minimart in Philadelphia, PA.

On the album, we’re guided by a wry but forgiving narrator, an underdog who has learned to balance cynicism and faith. These songs are self-effacing without self-pity, carefully constructed altars of imperfection channeled through pop melodies, shimmering but urgent guitars, and a voice that reaches for choir boy innocence.

The bulk of Beauty Land was recorded directly to tape, almost entirely alone in Mendez’s makeshift home studio in Philadelphia – a small room with no natural light. It’s his first full-length album since his unexpected breakthrough self-titled album in 2023, which was a slow burn success following 15 years of writing and recording music in relative obscurity between Philly and New York. Beauty Land picks up where we left off three years ago – plumbing the depths of grief, love, and addiction – but its intense, quiet clarity shows Mendez at his songwriting best.

Mendez is touring across North America this summer in support of Beauty Land this summer, with just-announced dates across Europe this October and November. Tickets for all shows are available now via gregmendez.net. All dates below.

DRAGON CON MARKS 40TH ANNIVERSARY WITH LEGENDS TIMOTHY ZAHN AND TONY DITERLIZZI AS LITERARY AND ARTIST GUESTS OF HONOR

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 7/14/26

Dragon Con, celebrating its 40th anniversary as Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy, sci-fi, and gaming convention, has named author Timothy Zahn and artist Tony DiTerlizzi as its 2026 Literary and Artist Guests of Honor.

Dragon Con’s 2026 convention runs from Thursday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 7 with events and activities across five host hotels – Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree, and Courtland Grand Hotel – and AmericasMart Buildings 2 and 3.

Since its first convention in 1987, Dragon Con has spotlighted the authors and artists whose creative contributions have breathed life into the realms of fantasy and science fiction as Literary and Artist Guests of Honor. Both Zahn and DiTerlizzi will be recognized throughout the event and will be on hand to meet fans and participate in panels to provide insight into their success and love of fandom.

Zahn is a Hugo Award winning and New York Times bestselling author whose work has helped define modern science fiction. A member of the Dragon Con family since his first appearance in 1995, Zahn is best known for creating the iconic Grand Admiral Thrawn and the bestselling Thrawn Trilogy. He has written more than 60 novels, nearly 90 works of short fiction, and multiple collections, with over eight million copies of his books in print. In addition to his influential Star Wars novels, Zahn’s extensive body of work includes original series such as CobraQuadrail, and Dragonback, as well as contributions to major franchises like StarCraft. For more information, visit https://www.simonandschuster.com/authors/Timothy-Zahn/432874

Tony DiTerlizzi is a bestselling author and acclaimed illustrator whose work has shaped modern fantasy across gaming, books, and film. He first rose to prominence for his distinctive artwork in Dungeons & Dragons and for illustrating iconic cards for Magic: The Gathering, helping redefine the visual language of both franchises. DiTerlizzi is the co-creator of the internationally bestselling The Spiderwick Chronicles series (with Holly Black), which has been adapted into a feature film and a television series. His imaginative storytelling continues with projects such as the WondLa series. Blending classical illustration influences with a whimsical, otherworldly style, DiTerlizzi remains one of the most recognizable and influential artists in contemporary fantasy.
