SUMMERHILL KICKS OFF JULY WITH A TASTY LINEUP AND COMMUNITY EVENTS

Soak Up All the Delectable Gems Found in the Summerhill Neighborhood

Summerhill has some exciting happenings this month to embrace the sizzling summer season. From new food destinations to back-to-school events, the highlights below are a sampling of what’s in store for July.

  • Highly anticipated Southern National at Summerhill is now open for business. The new restaurant serves globally inspired cuisine that is rooted in “authentic Southern cuisine,” curated by chef Duane Nutter. Greg Best and Paul Calvert have curated an equally impressive wine and cocktail menu.  Make reservations here
  • Junior’s in Summerhill has some great specials for July. The pizza joint is offering “The Fresh Prince” (pictured below) in regular, vegetarian, and vegan variations. In addition, Junior’s is featuring lunch specials Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Guests can choose from two one-topping slices and a soda for $8.50 or one one-topping slice, salad, and soda for $10.25. Guests are invited back on Tuesday evenings for trivia starting at 7 p.m.
  • Big Softie brings a taste of summer to Summerhill with peach sorbet, its July flavor of the month (pictured below). The ice cream shop’s soft serve is made with the best ingredients, including local Georgia dairy products and organic cane sugar.
  • On Saturday, July 15, the Summerhill Community Center branch of Chase Bank is hosting a back-to-school family event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Families are invited to stop by to pick up a free backpack with school supplies and enjoy fun games, activities and entertainment.  
  • On Saturday, July 22, Organized Neighbors of Summerhill and the Summerhill Neighborhood Development Corporation will host the Summerhill Reunion Unity Festival. A more than 30-year tradition for the neighborhood, the festival will feature local music, food trucks, vendors, activities for kids, and more. The event will be held in Phoenix Park III from 12-8 p.m.

THE BATTERY ATLANTA KICKS OFF JULY WITH SENSATIONAL SUMMER FESTIVITIES

Lineup includes free yoga classes, tennis lessons, Mimosa Fest and concerts!

The Battery Atlanta invites Atlantans and visitors to continue summer festivities throughout the month of July. Guests can expect a lineup of events including   outdoor yoga classes, Farmers Markets, kids’ tennis lessons, live performances and more. Visitors craving a taste of summer can dine alfresco on patios, sip refreshing libations at a Mimosa Festival, and cool off with classic summer treats from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and River Street Sweets Savannah’s Candy Kitchen. The Battery Atlanta has planned lively activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy!

Outdoor Activities:
Wellness Series: Yoga by Kaiser Permanente

Mondays (excluding home gamedays), 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to start the week off stress-free at an outdoor yoga class presented by Kaiser Permanente. As part of the Wellness Series at The Battery Atlanta, this free event encourages guests of all ages to release tension and relax on the Plaza Green. Participants are required to bring a mat and encouraged to bring water. Guests can register here.

Farmers Market
Sunday, July 3, 1-4 p.m. & Sunday, July 17, 1-4 p.m.
Visitors can shop organic must-haves at The Battery Atlanta Farmers Market! A variety of local vendors will be in attendance selling wellness products, prepared foods, artisanal bread and more on the Plaza Green – there’s even a petting zoo.

Wellstar Health System invites kids to bring their sick or injured Teddy Bear or other plush friend to the Teddy Bear Clinic. The plush patients will receive a healthcare check-up, X-ray, bandages and instructions on how to stay healthy. The Teddy Bear clinic promotes healthy habits while allowing children the opportunity to become familiar with what it’s like to visit a healthcare professional in a fun and developmentally appropriate setting. THE BATTERY ATLANTA JULY EVENTS 2021

As the season heats up so does Atlanta’s premiere entertainment destination

The fun continues at The Battery Atlanta with an array of entertainment options and refreshing deals that offer locals a chance to savor the season. Those looking to rest and retreat from the warmer weather can visit the newly opened Silverspot Cinema to see the hottest new releases (and a few classics!) in its premium luxury seating in addition to enjoying half off bar bites and drink specials every Tuesday and Thursday. Guests can also expect weekly favorites, including Wednesday Night Trivia at Good Game or refreshing drinks at BURN during Ketel One Thursday specials. With summer in full swing, local favorite Park Bench continues to provide an engaging lineup of musical experiences for guests to enjoy.

Wellness Series: Yoga by Kaiser Permanente

Start the week off stress-free with a limited capacity, outdoor yoga class presented by Kaiser Permanente on non-event days at the Plaza Green. Pre-registration and event participant waivers are available online. Participants are required to bring a mat and are encouraged to bring water. A live stream on Facebook and past sessions on YouTube are also available to fitness fans virtually on event days.

Cornhole ATL Summer League
Tuesdays from 6:30-9 p.m.
A tailgate favorite is now a league of its own! Spectators are encouraged to watch the action and cheer on league participants as they play games leading up to the summer season’s final tournament. League winners will receive a championship trophy and other prizes.

The Battery Atlanta Walking Trail presented by UnitedHealthcare
A brisk walk can curb cravings, reduce stress and offer a healthy way to catch up with friends and family! Get out and get active on the 1.5-mile loop circling the campus.

Tennis on the Turf with USTA
July 20 & 27 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Families are invited to spend a morning on the court. Parents and children can choose from 30-minute tennis lessons and free matches on the Plaza Green. Participants will be able to sign up for the free lessons online through the U.S. Tennis Association. Registration will be encouraged but not required to attend. Walk-ups are welcome as space permits!

Bach to Rock Music and Movement Summer Series
July 24 from 4-6 p.m. and July 29 from 10-11 a.m.
Children up to 8-years-old and their parents are invited to experience free, dynamic music and movement activities that are educational and fun-filled hosted by Bach to Rock Sandy Plains! To learn more about Bach to Rock Sandy Plains, visit their website.

American Red Cross Blood Drives:
The American Red Cross continues their blood drive at The Battery Atlanta! All presenting donors will receive a commemorative T-shirt and a chance to win special Atlanta Braves and American Red Cross giveaways, while supplies last.

Every Tuesday, 4-6pm – Ponce City Farmers Market
Located at The Yard in front of Mountain High Outfitters, Ponce City Farmers Market is now open as an in-person mini-market and pick-up location for ShopCFMATL.org orders, with local fruit and produce available to purchase on-site. For a contactless option, ShopCFM offers CSA-style veggie boxes in addition to their usual offerings.

Fri., July 17 & Fri., July 31, 5:30-7:30pm – Cocktail Classes at 12 Cocktail Bar

12 Cocktail Bar on The Roof at Ponce City Market is hosting cocktail classes taught by their award-winning barmen and Beverage Director Randy Hayden. Guests can enjoy an exclusive and intimate class setting and receive hands-on experience creating four hand-crafted cocktails. Tickets ($75) are available here and include complimentary cocktails, one-on-one demonstrations, four cocktail recipe cards to take home and a 12 Cocktail Class Certificate of Completion.

Every Wednesday, 9:30pm – Movies on The Roof

Guests can catch their favorite flicks from new heights at Movies on The Roof! Classic and new favorites will be played every Wednesday evening at 8:30pm. All guests with 9 Mile Station reservations OR unlimited gameplay wristbands for Skyline Park have access to the movie. The huge Rooftop Terrace has open air and plenty of space for a comfortable experience for all guests, and seating is first come, first served. Tickets available here!

Thursday through Sunday – Velvet Residence Presents “Live at Ponce”

Ponce City Market has teamed up with Velvet Residence, an Atlanta-based platform for artists around the world to be seen and heard, to bring free live music to the community destination every Thursday from 5-8pm and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am-2pm and 5-8pm. Performers will be positioned on the Central Food Hall’s Second Floor between Elk Head Clothing and Cobbler Union, and this week’s acts include Symone Royale, Anna Field, Rex Evans, Jaylon Ashaun, Mona and Lee Vasi.

Every Sunday, 11am-3pm & 6-10pm – Summer Sundays at Skyline Park

Each Sunday, guests can enjoy family activities at Skyline Park with friendly competition, balloon artists, and craft stations. From 6-10pm, 9 Mile Station will have live music by local artists and bands. Interested guests can book a reservation for 9 Mile Station here.
