FOURTH ANNUAL SPARK 5K

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 4/3/26

Fourth Annual Spark 5K Unites Atlanta for Fun, High-Energy Celebration of Community, Inclusion and Friendly Competition

Race raises funds to empower people with disabilities and transform child literacy

The Spark 5K, presented by Roark, returns to Piedmont Park on Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. ET for its fourth annual celebration of community, movement, and purpose. More than a race, this high-energy evening combines fun, fitness and a spirited corporate challenge all to raise funds supporting two impactful nonprofit partners: The Kyle Pease Foundation and Malcolm Mitchell’s Share the Magic Foundation.

An event that has continued to grow in both number of participants and amount raised over the last three years, the Spark 5K welcomes runners, walkers, in-chair athletes and supporters from across the Atlanta area to enjoy an inclusive course through Piedmont Park. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, strolling with friends, simply enjoying a night at the park, or cheering from the sidelines, this event is designed for participants of all abilities.

The event will also be continuing its tradition as a dynamic corporate challenge, rallying Atlanta-based companies to show their team spirit while connecting employees outside the office to make a lasting difference in our community. Businesses of all sizes are encouraged to join forces, register their teams at Spark5K.com, and compete for awards recognizing the most spirited, creative, and engaged groups.

Race beneficiaries, The Kyle Pease Foundation continues to champion opportunities for inclusion, ensuring in-chair athletes have a place in sports while working to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, and Share the Magic Foundation remains dedicated to changing lives through literacy, bringing joy and educational empowerment to children facing challenges.

“The Spark 5K represents everything our foundation believes in – inclusion, teamwork, perseverance, and the power of community,” said Kyle Pease, Co-Founder and Director of Inclusion at The Kyle Pease Foundation. “We’re excited to be part of this annual event yet again, and seeing our athletes, corporate teams, families and friends is incredibly powerful. It truly shows how much stronger our community becomes when we rally for a shared purpose.”

Atlanta natives Kyle Pease and Malcolm Mitchell, along with former University of Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, as well as other local athletes and corporate representatives will all be on hand to celebrate the event. All registered participants will receive a Spark 5K branded tee and enjoy refreshments at the finish line, with prizes awarded to standout individuals and company teams, and delectable offerings from McAlister’s Deli and Dave’s Hot Chicken awaiting participants at the finish line.

“The Spark 5K continues to be a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together with purpose,” said Malcolm Mitchell, Founder and CEO of Share the Magic Foundation. “Each year, this event grows not just in size, but in impact—helping us reach more children, inspire more readers, and create more opportunities through literacy. We’re proud to once again partner with Roark and The Kyle Pease Foundation to turn collective energy into meaningful change.”

Registration is open for individuals, school teams, run clubs, and corporate teams at Spark5K.com, so lace up your sneakers, rally your team, and join Atlantans for an evening where every step matters. See you at the starting line on Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. ET!

“At Roark, helping people and companies reach their full potential also means investing in the communities where we live and work,” said Allison Hill, Chief Social Impact and Content Officer at Roark. “Last year, more than 700 participants joined the Spark 5K and helped raise $172,000 for two incredible Atlanta nonprofits. Just as meaningful, the event brought colleagues, partners and friends from across the business community together outside the office. We’re excited to build on that momentum this year and welcome even more teams for an evening of connection, camaraderie and impact.”

MYSTIC DISTRICT MARKETPLACE RETURNS WITH “THE INFERNO EDITION” – A CELEBRATION OF ART, PERFORMANCE, AND RADICAL SELF-EXPRESSION

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 4/3/26

An immersive night of music, vendors, and late-night cabaret unites Atlanta’s alternative arts scene.

Mystic District Marketplace returns for another immersive year with The Inferno Edition, a night of art, performance, and radical self-expression. Taking place on Saturday, April 11th from 4 PM to 1 AM at Star Community Bar, this annual gathering invites the public to step into a world where creativity, community, and catharsis collide.

A beloved staple in Atlanta’s alternative arts scene, Mystic District Marketplace has grown into more than a market. What began as a grassroots gathering of artists, witches, and curious creatives has evolved into a vibrant, inclusive space where attendees are encouraged to embrace individuality, celebrate identity, and connect with their “coven.”

This year’s Inferno Edition embraces themes of transformation and release, “burning it all down” to make space for joy, connection, and collective renewal.

“Mystic District gifts the opportunity to intentionally curate a space where Atlanta’s artists, performers, and creatives can be fully seen and celebrated. The Inferno Edition is about transformation: releasing what no longer serves us and creating space for joy, connection, and self-expression. We built this as a haven for the community to come together, explore, and experience something truly immersive and liberating.”
– Liz Peña, Producer of Mystic District Marketplace.

Mystic District Marketplace offers a dynamic, multi-sensory experience unfolding in two parts across the evening.

From 4 PM to 10 PM (18+), guests are invited to explore the outdoor mystic market, featuring 25+ curated local vendors offering art, vintage pieces, handmade goods, tarot readings, taxidermy, and metaphysical curiosities. The market will also feature interactive art, live DJ sets, and fire performances woven throughout the night.

From 10 PM to 1 AM (21+), the experience transitions indoors for a late-night cabaret, hosted by Mecca Mwah. This high-energy showcase will feature a lineup of drag, burlesque, and experimental performances by Taylor ALXNDRRoyal TeeKoochie Koochie Ku, and City Alien, alongside DJ sets by GeeXellaEvan Flow, and Lezzie McGuire.

In addition to its performances and marketplace, Mystic District Marketplace remains committed to uplifting the local community. This year’s event will include a raffle benefiting GLAHR (Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights), supporting ongoing mutual aid efforts within Atlanta.

Attendees are encouraged to embrace the theme with inferno-inspired attire, cosplay, and bold self-expression, contributing to the event’s signature atmosphere of creativity and freedom. Food and drinks will be available on-site via Star Community Bar.

Mystic District Marketplace continues to serve as a platform for Atlanta’s diverse creative community, bringing together artists, performers, and small businesses in a space designed for exploration, celebration, and connection.

Tickets are available now at Shotgun.com. For the latest updates and announcements, follow Mystic District Marketplace on Instagram @mysticdistrictmarket or TikTok @mysticdistrictmarket.

SNAIL MAIL COMING TO ATLANTA’S VARIETY PLAYHOUSE APRIL 22ND

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 3/30/26

Snail Mail is the incredible project of singer/songwriter Lindsey Jordan, who will release her highly anticipated album Ricochet out at the end of March! I’m reaching out because she will head out on her major North American Tour next month and will be stopping in Atlanta along the way!

Snail Mail has released two of the album’s singles  “My Maker,” which was co-produced by Jordan, alongside Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma) and the music video was shot as a single-take hot air balloon ride!
Prior to “My Maker,” Jordan also shared the album’s first single, Dead End,”a standout that mourns the simplicity of a suburban adolescence, of parking in a cul-de-sac and smoking with friends.

On her first album in five years, she returns with a renewed sense of clarity and control, asserting herself as a generational songwriter with a sharpened perspective.

TELESCREENS PLAYING SMITHS OLDE BAR IN ATLANTA ON APRIL 9TH

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 3/27/26

New York City band Telescreens are gearing up to release new music this year and will also embark on a North American tour which will be making a stop in Atlanta, GA where they will play Smiths Olde Bar on 4/9.

L

Since forming in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Telescreens has developed a sound that bridges decades – a meeting of old-school rock attitude and forward-looking production. Their debut album The Return (2020) introduced a cinematic, story-driven vision; Stare Wide (2023) added heaviness and immediacy. “Nothing” now points toward what’s next: a band pushing their creative limits while staying true to the pulse of rock and roll.

Known for their gritty, high-voltage live performances, Telescreens turn every stage into a full-body experience. Their shows are packed with sweat, movement, and the kind of unrestrained dancing that collapses the barrier between band and audience. Rooted in the ethos of New York City’s storied rock scene while fearlessly pushing it forward, the band has headlined NYC’s Webster Hall and Bowery Ballroom and played the main stage at Governors Ball 2024. Fans can expect that same chaotic, immersive energy as the band hit the road this spring for a North American tour as the support for Quarters followed by a run supporting Sir Chloe.

3/28 – Mission Theater – Portland, OR *

KING TUFF ON TOUR PLAYING ATLANTA AT THE EARL – APRIL 22ND

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 3/27/26

Photo: Wyndham Garnett

King Tuff, the moniker of Burlington, Vermont artist  Kyle Thomas, recently announced his sixth full-length album, MOO, out March 27 via his new label MUP Records via Thirty Tigers. To celebrate the album’s release, King Tuff will embark on a headline tour, stopping at The EARL in Atlanta, GA on 4/22.

Following the release of 2023’s Smalltown StardustKing Tuff found himself a bit lost. He had felt lost since 2016. Both Smalltown Stardust and 2018’s The Other had been departures from his sound, and while they were both new sonic places that he needed to explore, neither album felt all that fun to perform live. Every show he would just be looking forward to playing his older, wilder material. So when he decided to make a new record, it only seemed right to go back to what has always brought him the most joy, Rock & Roll music.

A few months before starting MOO, Thomas fell in love. So, MOO is mostly love songs, with the exception of a song about rodents and a song about getting an oil change. But those are actually love songs too. MOO is a full circle moment. A return to form. A return to rock. A return to Vermont. A return to himself. Reconnecting the dots. Restarting the engine. Plugging in the stack. Finally letting King Tuff be King. F*cking. Tuff.

King Tuff will be playing a record release show at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, NY this Friday, March 27 and the tour in support of MOO kicks off April 15th in Troy, NY. Tickets are available now via kingtuffworld.net

Tour Dates:
