Thriving Community Offers an Exciting Month with Valentine’s Day Events, Game-Day Catering, and More

This February, the vibrant neighborhood of Summerhill in Atlanta is buzzing with diverse and exciting events and specials, making it the perfect destination for locals and visitors alike. From catering for the big game to unique culinary experiences and Valentine’s Day celebrations, there’s something for everyone in this community.

  • Big Softie invites guests to celebrate Valentine’s Day with soft-serve cakes (see below), available for pre-order in both classic and vegan options starting Feb. 2. Valentine’s Day soft-serve bars also will be available the weekend before the holiday.
  • Cava is now open in Summerhill. In January, the neighborhood welcomed the popular fast casual eatery that serves Mediterranean-inspired bowls, pitas, dips, and more. Cava is located at Summerhill Station at 572 Hank Aaron Dr. SE.
  • Junior’s Pizza is packed with activities and specials including its pizza of the month. The Rick Reuben is available in regular, veggie, and vegan options. Don’t miss Junior’s regular Trivia Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Drag Bingo on Feb. 14 and 28.
  • Little Bear celebrates its fourth anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 24, with a bar takeover night in collaboration with Dampfwerk Distillery from Minnesota. The Loeffelholz family, who runs the distillery, will be present to mingle and interact with guests. Guests can expect an exciting cocktail menu, $4 birthday cake shots, and $4 caviar bumps.
  • Press Shop has a lineup of engaging events including a charm necklace pop-up with Prettiest Lobster on Friday, Feb. 2 from 5-8 p.m.; Cook Book Club on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Little Tart Grant Park, featuring dessert-themed books and East Fork pottery; Fiction Book Club on Wednesday, Feb. 28, discussing “The Rachel Incident” by Caroline O’Donoghue; and Knitting Circle Group on Thursday, Feb. 29 from 7-9 p.m. Special items during the month include chocolates from Spring + Mulberry and Condor, bath bombs and soap sets from Even Keel, a selection of wines, and a jewelry drop from Agapé Studios.
  • Wood’s Chapel BBQ gears up for the big game with mouthwatering catering services. Experience an enchanting celebration of Lunar New Year featuring lights, music and visuals at the top of every hour from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Atlantic Green. The nightly show features a beautifully designed, 90-foot-long dragon with over 25,000 lights, known as a Chinese symbol of good fortune, emerging from a cloud of fog near Atlantic Green and over 400 red lanterns illuminating the area for a special lantern show to honor the spiritual tradition that celebrates the reunion of loved ones. Visit here to learn more.

  • College Football National Championship Game Watch (Mon., Jan. 8, 5pm-midnight) – The final game of college football season is near! Live! at the Battery’s Sports & Social is the ultimate viewing destination to watch the most anticipated college football championship game. With 40+ televisions and a 32-foot LED screen, fans can watch every play, touchdown and tackle. The intown destination invites the community to experience a variety of outdoor events

Atlantic Station has a variety of events planned throughout February that are sure to warm your heart. Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit as Atlantic Station continues to honor the Lunar New Year with a spectacular display of Lunar New Year decor and traditions along with a magnificent fire breathing dragon. Treat your taste buds to one of the many flavorful food and beverage festivals happening throughout the month in the Pinnacle Lot, such as the Atlanta Oyster Festival, the Atlanta Winter Beer Festival and the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival. Celebrate Black History Month with an outdoor movie series on Atlantic Green. The month may be short, but there’s plenty to do at Atlantic Station throughout February.

Lunar New Year

Now through Sunday, Feb. 5 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. daily

Visit Atlantic Green to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit and experience mesmerizing Lunar New Year decor. At the top of the hour nightly from 5 – 9 p.m., an impressive “fog” breathing 90-foot-long dragon with over 25,000 lights, known as the Chinese symbol of good fortune, will blow fog out in the plaza to surprise guests. Also happening at the top of the hour every night, over 450 beautifully decorated red lanterns will illuminate Atlantic Green for a glistening lantern show. Celebration of Culinary Artisan Events features African-American Chefs and Wineries

 
City Winery celebrates the achievements of the African-American community this February for Black History Month with food and beverage events curated by Beverage Director James Brim. Brim himself is a trailblazer in a growing number of African-American sommeliers and beverage directors in Atlanta.

City Winery’s Celebration of Culinary Artisans ft. Edna Lewis’ “The Taste of Country Cooking” on Saturday, February 15th celebrates the life and achievements of the late Edna Lewis. Edna Lewis was an African-American author and chef, renowned for her traditional Southern cooking that emphasized fresh and locally grown foods. Towards the end of her career, Lewis relocated to Decatur, GA, where she spent the rest of her days. The South’s answer to Julia Child, Edna Lewis has inspired an entire generation of African-American chefs. Her life and impact will be celebrated at City Winery for Black History Month. Chef Vawanda Richardson will prepare an interpretation of the fresh taste of early spring, served family style and paired with wines from African-American producers.

On Saturday, February 29th, City Winery hosts a Celebration of Culinary Artisans: Vertamae Smart Grosvenor “Vibration Cooking, or Tales of a Geechee Girl”. Vertamae Smart Grosvenor was a world-renowned author, performer, and chef. Born in South Carolina in 1937, Vertamae was strongly influenced by her Gullah Geechee community. Having befriended some of the most influential artists, writers, actors, and musicians of the twentieth century, Vertamae held a treasure trove of stories about her experiences  with people like novelist and poet Maya Angelou, and jazz musician Hugh Masekala. The dinner will be with wines from African-American producers paired with the dinner.

Destination shares the love with specials for the local community

Roses are red, violets are blue … The Battery Atlanta has things for the community to do! The lifestyle destination’s restaurants are dishing out a variety of flavors this February – from a seafood series to crave-worthy Cajun dishes to the must-have wine, cheese and chocolate for the holiday. A one-stop date night destination, The Battery Atlanta invites locals to sweeten dinner plans at its intimate restaurants offering prix fix menus. Throughout the month, Atlantans can share their love of sports teams, trivia games and live music with friends and family.

The Battery Atlanta Cornhole League
Every Tuesday at 6 p.m.
A tailgate favorite is now a league of its own! Spectators are encouraged to watch the action and cheer on league participants as they play games leading up to the season’s final tournament. League winners will receive a championship trophy and other prizes.

Wellness Series: Yoga
Monday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m.
Start the week off stress-free at an outdoor yoga class presented by Kaiser Permanente. As part of the Wellness Series at The Battery Atlanta, this free event is open to all ages to relax and unwind on the Plaza Green. Participants are required to bring a mat and encouraged to bring water.
