SPRING IN TO SUMMERHILL THIS APRIL

Summerhill, the vibrant Atlanta neighborhood known for its eclectic dining and shopping scene, invites you to take advantage of these special offerings and events in April. From inventive brews to new dishes, there’s something to satisfy every palate this spring.

Highlights include:

  • Guests are invited to experience culinary excellence at Chance’s Steakhouse, a pop-up event at Little Bear. On April 15 at 6 p.m., sous chef Blazer Turman brings his unique flair to the table. Known for its motto “Where Everybody’s Somebody,” Chance’s Steakhouse promises a night of exceptional dining. Reservations are encouraged and can be made via Resy.
  • Halfway Crooks is set to light up April with two special events. On April 13, Electro Nite in the biergarten features an evening of live experimental music and electronica. On April 20, the monthly vinyl DJ series “Crafts and Crates” spins hip-hop from various eras, creating a nostalgic and vibrant atmosphere.
  • An event not to be missed, Move For Grady returns to Georgia State’s Center Parc Stadium, offering a dynamic way to support Grady Health System. Participants can choose from 20- and 62-mile bike rides or take on 5K/10K walking and running routes. New this year is the one-mile DownHill Dash, a test of speed and excitement. The event culminates with the Pop Up on the Plaza Finish Line Celebration featuring a DJ, games for kids, and complimentary food and drinks. The family is invited to join the fun and contribute to a great cause.
  • For those with a sweet tooth, Big Softie is introducing two seasonal toppings: the strawberry shortcake crumble and passion fruit hardshell. These delicious additions are sure to elevate the ice cream experience.
  • BOCA spices up the season with its new margarita pitchers for just $30. Patrons can choose from original, blood orange, strawberry, mango, pink guava, and dragon fruit. BOCA’s margaritas add a zesty twist to every gathering.
  • Junior’s April special, Gucci Mac & Young Cheesy, features macaroni and cheese, bacon, and pimento. It is available in regular and vegetarian versions (featuring vegan meatballs instead of bacon). The restaurant will also be selling their homemade pimento cheese to enjoy.

SIX, which closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic on what was supposed to be opening night, is now playing at the
Lena Horne Theatre on Broadway in New York City. The show had a successful North American Premiere at Chicago
Shakespeare in the summer of 2019. Prior to Broadway, the show played limited engagements at American Repertory
Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge, MA, the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, AB Canada, and the Ordway Center for the
Performing Arts in Saint Paul, MN.


SIX is co-directed by Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage, featuring choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. The design team
includes Emma Bailey (Set Design), Tony Award®-winner Gabriella Slade (Costume Design), Paul Gatehouse (Sound
Design), and Tim Deiling (Lighting Design). The score features orchestrations by Tom Curran with music supervision and
vocal arrangements by Joe Beighton and U.S. Music Supervision by Roberta Duchak. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting /
Peter Van Dam, CSA with original US casting by Bob Mason. Theater Matters is General Manager, Sam Levy is Associate
Producer and Lucas McMahon is U.S. Executive Producer.


SIX is produced in the United States by Kenny Wax, Wendy & Andy Barnes, George Stiles, and Kevin McCollum.
Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss devised the original concept and started writing SIX when they were students at
Cambridge University in early 2017. It was first presented as the Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society’s
submission to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe later that year, playing a one-month run and featuring student actors. SIX went
on to get picked up by UK Producers and a new production was mounted, with professional actors and a predominantly
new creative team, at the Norwich Playhouse and then again at Edinburgh Festival in 2018. A limited engagement at the
Arts Theatre in London garnered the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West End Production and the show toured the UK
in the autumn of 2018 before returning to the Arts Theatre and subsequently the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue. SIX
is currently playing an open-ended run at the Vaudeville Theatre on the Strand. SIX earned five 2019 Laurence Olivier
Award nominations, including Best New Musical.
 
SIX is currently on-stage at the Lena Horne Theatre (256 W. 47th St) on Broadway in New York City, the Vaudeville Theatre in London’s West End, on tour in the UK, and at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.

Sandy Springs Artsapalooza returns on Saturday, March 30, and Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. The award-winning, free festival features more than 150 painters, photographers, sculptors, leather and metal craft makers, glass blowers, jewelers and more. Transforming the tree-lined streets of Sandy Springs into an expansive outdoor art gallery, festival-goers will have the opportunity to view artist demonstrations, participate in hands-on art activities, and enjoy music. The event also has an expansive children’s area and plenty of food trucks and beverages for all tastes.   • Live! Goes ‘90s (Sat., June 8, 8pm until close) – Live! at the Battery is going back in time for their annual Live! Goes ‘90s party. Guests can dust off their track suits and relive the nostalgia of their favorite decade as they are transported back to a time of neon lights, mixtapes and iconic pop culture references. The night will include old school hits from a ‘90s-themed DJ, adult juice pouches, instagrammable moments, giveaways and games like Twister and Connect 4.   • NFC #162 Fight Night (Fri., June 21) – Live! at the Battery will host another National Fighting Championship (NFC) event this June. Roswell Music Festival Announces Lineup for Second Annual Event

The highly anticipated 2024 Roswell Music Festival is back for its second year, set to take place on May 18th in the heart of Historic Downtown Roswell. Following the tremendous success of its inaugural edition, this year’s festival promises to be bigger and better, featuring an electrifying lineup of renowned performers and an array of exciting activities for attendees of all ages.

Headlining this year’s festival is critically acclaimed band Sister Hazel bringing their hits such as ‘All For You’, ‘Change Your Mind’ and ‘Champagne High.’ Joining Sister Hazel on one of the two stages will be Kevn Kinney Band, Bloodkin, Frankly Scarlet, Troy Doherty, Cat Ridgeway & The Tourists, Magnolia Express, and Davis and The Love. With two stages hosting non-stop entertainment throughout the day, attendees can expect an unforgettable musical experience that spans a variety of genres.

Supporting our military veterans is a key focus of the 2024 Roswell Music Festival. Get ready to enjoy America’s beloved hands-on meal—chicken wings—at the highly anticipated Atlanta Wing Fest, presented by Taste of Atlanta. This ultimate wing showdown is set to take flight at Uptown Atlanta, Atrium Towers, located at 570 Main Street, Atlanta, GA 30324, on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 6-10pm.


Atlanta Wing Fest promises an evening of craveable wings & things, desserts, bottomless beverages, music by DJ Tron, cooking and mixology demonstrations, and more. Helmet, an American Alternative rock band out of New York join forces with guest Cro-Mags, a hardcore band, for an evening that will blow you away. Maybe literally.

HELMET

Helmet is an American alternative rock band from New York City formed in 1989 by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton. Since 2010, the band has consisted of Hamilton, drummer Kyle Stevenson, guitarist Dan Beeman and bassist Dave Case.

Helmet has released eight studio albums and two compilation albums. After releasing their debut album, Strap It On (1990), on Amphetamine Reptile, Helmet signed to Interscope Records and released three albums for the label, including the highly successful Meantime (1992), Betty (1994) and Aftertaste (1997). Helmet broke up in 1998, but reformed in 2004, and has since released four more albums ― Size Matters (2004), Monochrome (2006), Seeing Eye Dog (2010) and Dead to the World (2016).

In June 2021 the band released via their website only a limited edition box set entitled “Move On” featuring 4 x 7” singles including the following covers and live tracks:

  • Mercy (Wire) w/ Rollo live
  • ETI (Blue Oyster Cult) w/ Blacktop live
  • I’m only sleeping (The Beatles) w/ Crisis King live

2023 saw the band return to the studio for it’s ninth album Left which was released by earMusic in November 2023.

CRO-MAGS

The history of the Cro-Mags is integral to the history of Hardcore, it’s evolution from Punk and the development of alternative music genres such as thrash, cross-over, thrash metal, post punk and grunge to name a few. Numerous iconic bands from Metallica to Green Day, and individuals such as Dave Grohl have credited Cro-Mags with having a primal influence on their development.

The brain child of a very young Harley Flanagan back in 1981 (at the time 14 years old) when still playing with the Stimulators, Flanagan set out to start his own band. By 1982/83 he recorded the very first Cro-Mags demos consisting of 4 songs that would become the blue print for the seminal 1986 “Age of Quarrel.” He wrote all of the music, played each instrument and sang. Before long he was joined by Parris Mayhew and the two started writing music and auditioning band members. 

After several line-ups, 6 album releases (beyond the original demos) and 40 years of tours around the world, Cro-Mags remains one of the most iconic hardcore bands with tremendous reach and influence beyond the genre.  

THE INTERLOCK IN WEST MIDTOWN CELEBRATES THIRD ANNIVERSARY

The vertical mixed-use destination to host a community picnic in Highline Park, reflects on growth 

The Interlock, the nine-acre mixed-use development in West Midtown, will celebrate three years as a gathering place for the community this March. Driven by West Midtown’s tech and population boom, The Interlock has evolved into a thriving destination with experiential attractions, unique retail and chef-infused dining. On Saturday March 23, the community is invited to celebrate the milestone with a Picnic in the Park at Highline Park. 

“The rapid rise of West Midtown in recent years inspired the need for more dining, shopping and entertainment options to accommodate the growing population; thus, The Interlock was born,” said Shawn J. Tibbetts, President and Chief Operating Officer at Armada Hoffler, which owns The Interlock. “Three years later, we reflect on the success of the project by inviting the community to an afternoon of celebration.”

The Interlock’s third anniversary picnic will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at Highline Park, the greenspace located on Beeline Boulevard. Guests can expect photo opportunities, delicious picnic-style food, frozen drinks and live music. Picnic in the Park is free to attend; food and beverage costs will vary. The Interlock offers free lunch parking during the week. 

West Midtown’s population has more than doubled since 2000, per U.S. Census Bureau data. The neighborhood is home to a remarkably young cohort of largely Millennials and Gen Zers, with more than 78% of residents born after 1981, according to a Cushman & Wakefield analysis. To match the growing demand and young population, The Interlock has welcomed a variety of experiential offerings, such as Puttshack, The Escape Game and Sandbox VR, along with diverse restaurant and retailers.

The Interlock is a private-public partnership with Georgia Institute of Technology. Armada Hoffler acquired the project in May 2023 from SJC Ventures, but provided significant development and construction expertise as well as mezzanine financing at the project’s inception. SJC Ventures remains the owner of Interlock Tower. On Saturday, March 23, ACC will invite the community to visit the property from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and play basketball on four courts set up on site to put their skills to the test! Called March Madness On the Green, this friendly competition will allow participants of all a ges to win gift cards totaling between $10 – $15 to each of ACC’s retail and restaurant tenants. Anyone can compete for free to win prizes.
