RED PHONE BOOTH AND AMALFI PIZZA OPENING SOON!

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 4/14/16

From the founder of Andrews Entertainment District that included Prohibition, Improv Comedy Club and East Andrews comes Red Phone Booth opening in June and Amalfi Pizza opening in August in the over 12,000 square foot iconic Dailey’s location located at 17 Andrew Young International Boulevard NE. As the 100 year old building had been closed for many years, a complete renovation is taking place and a new look will greet customers. In the ground floor space, cigar lounge Red Phone Booth will be housed in 4,000 square feet. On the second floor, Amalfi Pizza, a traditional Neapolitan trattoria, will occupy the remainder of the building.

“With the booming businesses and tourism in the area, we are excited to bring our inventive concepts to downtown Atlanta,” said CEO Stephen de Haan. According to Central Atlanta Progress, “Downtown has witnessed remarkable growth and investment over the past five years.”

The first of a multi-location franchise roll-out, Red Phone Booth is a prohibition experience featuring an extensive classic craft cocktail and cigar program led by spirit specialist and certified tobacconist Tom McGuire. Patrons will notice the finest attention to detail that provides for exceptional cocktails including 100% fresh squeezed juices such as blood orange, mango, and cranberry, hand chipped double-reverse osmosis ice, garnishes cut to order, a collection of some of the rarest liquors available and over a dozen tinctures, bitters and flavoring agents to help breath new depth. Small plates including fresh seafood, carpaccio, Neapolitan pizza and house made desserts including a rotating selection of signature desserts courtesy of former Dailey’s owner and current President of the Georgia Restaurant Association, Karen Bremer. Showcasing the 1920s speakeasy theme, the venue will feature restored original brick floors, have a honey onyx bar, intimate fireplace, custom Italian leather couches, and hand-painted ceiling with back lighting. A private “mob-style” kitchen complete with poker and pool tables will be available to rent for private events. Just like the former Prohibition in Buckhead, guests will enter by securing a secret phone number and dialing it into a restored antique London red phone booth entryway.

Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, Amalfi Pizza will be a traditional Neapolitan pizzeria centered around two 6000 pound wood-burning brick ovens imported from Italy that will have to be lifted into the second floor space by cranes. The 170 seat dining room will also have large semicircular booths, custom wrought iron chandeliers along with Juliet balconies overlooking an Italian-inspired entryway. Co-founder and operating partner Greg Grant will work hand-in hand with pizzaiolo and executive chef Luis Vargas in the kitchen to develop an authentic Italian menu that will include Neapolitan-style pizzas as well as appetizers, salads, pasta dishes and original desserts from Dailey’s recipes. Originating in and the true pizza of Naples in the 1600s, Vera Pizza Napoletana is 12 inches or less in size, made from simple fresh quality ingredients from the Campania region of Italy and cooked at temperatures in excess of 900 degrees in approximately 60 seconds. In addition to traveling to Naples and throughout the entire region to find the best ingredients, both Stephen de Haan and Greg Grant staged with the Italian Pizzaiolo Maestros at Pizzeria Mattozzi, established in 1830, and Pizzeria Da Attilo. This apprenticeship, along with studying in the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, have allowed their passion for food to develop into the skills necessary to bring this historic, simple, and beautifully executed street food to Atlanta.

AMER COCKTAIL BAR NOW OPEN IN ATLANTA’S INMAN QUARTER

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 3/4/16

AMER COCKTAIL BAR NOW OPEN IN ATLANTA’S INMAN QUARTER

From Team Behind Atlanta’s Beloved Westside Restaurant BOCADO

AMER, a cocktail bar from partners Brian Lewis and the late David Durnell of Atlanta’s BOCADO restaurant, will open in Atlanta’s Inman Park neighborhood in late March 2016: NOW OPEN as of March 31st . The space is located at 299 North Highland Ave, in the high-end, mixed-use development Inman Quarter.

The beverage program will be headed up by Timothy Faulkner, formerly of LUSCA, Octopus Bar, UMI, and Restaurant Eugene. “AMER” translates to “bitter” in French, and the bar’s drink list will have a focus on bitters and Italian Amari, with an opening menu of 20 cocktails. The drink menu is divided into four sections, designated as Shaken, Built, Sodas, and Stirred. Though AMER is centered around cocktails, no attention to detail has been neglected in the program as a whole. Think of the Italian tradition of the ‘Aperitivo Hour’, and expect a thoughtfully curated selection of beers and wines, aperitifs, digestifs, and playful surprises like the Super Coke with the AMER ten Amari blend, clarified lime & Mexican Coca-Cola.

A spot for guests to begin or end their evenings, AMER will also serve a menu of savory small plates and bar snacks curated by Chef Adam Waller of BOCADO. Dishes will include chips with charred onion dip; fried artichoke hearts and lemon; Buffala with trout caviar and fried leeks; Hamachi, green apples and sunchokes; English muffin, local egg and pork belly; and more.

AMER’s aesthetic will reference ‘70s-era Italian film and retro Amari labels. The punchy and exaggerated color palette will feature bright yellow, deep indigo, bronze, and marble. Playfully referencing Giallo movies, the exterior façade is divided by a red horizontal stripe on a yellow background. Open and airy, AMER will be flanked by large accordion windows. Mid-century furniture and old-world textures like rustic wooden beams will play off cinematic splashes of color. The intimate space will seat about 35, with a small private room for 12.

Brian Lewis is an Atlanta-based restaurateur who opened BOCADO in 2009. In 2010, it was named to Atlanta Magazine’s list of “Best New Restaurants,” and in 2012, Brian was named by StarChef as a “Rising Star Restaurateur” in the food industry.

AMER follows the 2014 opening of BOCADO BURGER, a concept spawned from BOCADO’s highly prized burger stack, served with American cheese, housemade B&B pickles, and fries. AMER, too, is hatched from BOCADO. It will draw inspiration from the restaurant’s lauded beverage program while showcasing an entirely new menu of cocktails.

About Glendalough Distillery

Determined to carve their own way, five friends from Dublin and Wicklow founded Glendalough Distillery to revive Ireland’s lost heritage of great spirits distillation and create innovative, exciting brands. Together, they created Ireland’s first craft distillery in Glendalough, harnessing fourteen centuries of Irish spirits-making tradition that stretches back to monks who made the world’s first distilled spirit—poitín—as early as 548 A.D. On every Glendalough Distillery bottle, the image of St. Kevin represents the distillery’s embrace of this ancient heritage and the notoriously independent Irish character. The Glendalough Distillery range includes two poitíns, 7- and 13-year old single malt Irish whiskeys, two seasonal, botanical gins, and the new Double Barrel Irish Whiskey.
