HAMPTON AND HUDSON COMMUNITY BAR AND RESTAURANT NOW OPEN IN INMAN PARK

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 6/19/16

Atlanta, Georgia (June 14, 2016) – Restaurateurs Billy and Jenn Streck will open their first solo concept, Hampton & Hudson (H+H) – a community driven bar and restaurant located in Inman Park at 280 Elizabeth Street the last week of May 2016. Billy, best-known as co-owner of the bustling, Midtown hotspots Cypress Street Pint and Plate, GRAIN drink shop and eatery and Atwoods Pizza Cafe, has created another approachable and affordable haunt with his wife in one of Atlanta’s fastest growing neighborhoods. Jenn, an Atlanta native, has years of experience in both the music and bar industries and brings a wealth of talent and vision to their first concept.

“After almost 20 years in the bar and restaurant industry, we are so excited to be opening Hampton + Hudson in Inman Park. We have always wanted to be a part of this incredible neighborhood and we’re simply thrilled that we finally have the chance!” says Jenn Streck.

A true family business, Billy and Jenn have put their hearts and souls into H+H, creating an old-world style bar and restaurant that embodies the warmth and hospitality of being welcomed into someone’s home. The 3,500-square foot space boasts a mezzanine, large, central bar, private dining areas and an intimate outdoor patio with a fire pit. The interior has distinctive touches inspired by many of their favorite go-to spots from their travels and when they lived in the East Village in New York, but also plays to both the spirit of the neighborhood and Atlanta’s ever-growing dining scene.  Custom overhead bar lighting from local Atlanta designer Tobin Hagler illuminates the main room that features an open kitchen and is outfitted with reclaimed 1800’s barn wood, tufted leather booths, Colonial bar stools, handcrafted tables adorned with fresh flowers in Mason jars, an antique cash register on display, and a large garage door leading to the outdoor, covered patio.

“We painted a quote on our window before we opened by Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, a man that gained fame in the 1800’s as an epicure and a gastronome that is the core of our mission. It says, ‘To invite people to dine with us is to make ourselves responsible for their well-being for as long as they are under our roofs,” and we stand by that,” adds Billy.

With an expansive bar as the centerpiece of the restaurant, H+H will offer 20+ craft beers on draft, wine, cocktails and ice coffee on draft. Tweaked classics and seasonal cocktails are playful, delicious and delightfully uncomplicated.  Jefferson’s Jetpack – Cathead Vodka, lime juice, Orgeat, Framboise, Violette’s, egg white; Snow On Tha Bluff – Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, lemon juice, blood orange shrub, Strega, ginger beer; Upper East Side – gin, elderflower liquor, lemon juice, ginger, fresh raspberries, and mint; and Hard Times – tequila, blood orange, lime, Cassis served as a shot with a High Life Pony are among the spring offerings. Two pocket-friendly, brews will also be constants on the rotating beer list. H+H South House, SweetWater 420, will be just $3 while the H+H North House, Brooklyn Lager will be a whopping $4.

At the helm of the kitchen with a wood-fired grill and rotisserie oven stands Executive Chef Jason Hall (Saltyard, Livingston Restaurant & Bar) who presents a thoughtful menu that is packed full of locally sourced ingredients and covers all the bases, from snacks, salads and shareable dishes to impressive entrees, desserts, and late night offerings. Redefining the meaning of accessible pub food, standouts ideal for sharing include:  Hampton Hot Chicken Biscuit Sliders –  herb and cheddar biscuits, hot sauce,  spicy B+B pickles; house-made jerky; Steak Tartare Tacos with a potato chip shell; and the Duck Ham with little moo, fig aigre-deux, baby mustard greens served open-faced on sourdough from the “toast” menu. Mouthwatering “handheld” and “fork and knife options” include:  H+H’s signature Spies Like Us house blend burger topped with American cheese, Soviet Sauce, spicy house-made B&B pickles, and shredded lettuce; The Best Veggie Sandwich – Baba ganoush, smoked pepper, herbs, house-made focaccia; a half rotisserie chicken cooked for 24-hours; N.C. flounder fish + chips; and the cauliflower steak. Open for brunch, lunch, dinner and late night and with a kid’s menu, H+H also has numerous gluten free, vegetarian and dairy free options for all ages.

Hampton + Hudson is located in Inman Park at 299 N. Highland Ave., Unit L, Atlanta, GA 30307. LADYBIRD’S OUTDOOR GROVE NOW OPEN!

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 4/24/16

LADYBIRD’S OUTDOOR “GROVE” ALONG THE BELTLINE

OFFICIALLY OPENED THIS WEEKEND, APRIL 22nd

The Grove is Complete with a Vintage Camper Transformed

into an Outdoor Bar, Seating for 120, Ping Pong Table, Bocce Court, & More

For Immediate Release—Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall—the Atlanta, Beltline-adjacent restaurant and bar serving campfire-inspired cuisine—has expanded to include a more than 4000-square-foot outdoor “grove” with a bar that will officially open this weekend. The Grove’s outdoor bar is located inside a vintage, two-tone, painted camper with a wood-stained interior. It will offer a separate beverage menu from the restaurant inside.

The curated drink list served from the camper will feature rotating punches and camper-specific cocktails, draft beer, canned beer and wine. Ladybird’s full food and drinks menu will continue to be offered throughout the rest of the restaurant.

With the addition of the Grove, Ladybird’s outdoor seating has more than doubled. Hangout-friendly Adirondack chairs are arranged in clusters near an outdoor smoker. A separate section houses communal, beer garden-style tables. The dog-friendly space is just inches from the Beltline, welcoming passersby and serving as a spot to wile away the afternoon. An abundance of bike racks are available for guests arriving on two wheels. Strands of string lights illuminate Ping-Pong tables for nighttime games, and live musical performances will be a regular weekend feature.

“The Grove” has been part of owner Michael Lennox’s vision for the restaurant since opening in 2014, and it serves as a natural extension of the existing space and patio. The design further crystallizes Ladybird’s lodge-like aesthetic, which takes cues from national parks, camping, and westward travels.

Located on the Atlanta Beltline’s 9.25 mile marker, Ladybird was the first outdoor-oriented restaurant to open on the acclaimed Eastside Trail. The Beltline is a former 22-mile industrial rail corridor that has recently been transformed into a popular and extensive city loop, with bike paths, walking trails, public art exhibitions, and more.

ABOUT LADYBIRD GROVE & MESS HALL

Opened in 2014, Ladybird is located in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward neighborhood at 684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave. NE. It is the first outdoor-oriented restaurant and bar to open along the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail, at mile marker 9.25. An in-town home away from home for Atlanta’s adventure seekers, Ladybird offers elevated campfire cuisine for dinner, lunch, and weekend brunch, and focuses on sharable dishes that rotate based on local availability. The beverage program features craft cocktails, wine, local beer, alongside housemade juices and sodas. The restaurant has been featured in Southern Living, Garden & Gun, Travel + Leisure, and many more.

RED PHONE BOOTH AND AMALFI PIZZA OPENING SOON!

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 4/14/16

From the founder of Andrews Entertainment District that included Prohibition, Improv Comedy Club and East Andrews comes Red Phone Booth opening in June and Amalfi Pizza opening in August in the over 12,000 square foot iconic Dailey’s location located at 17 Andrew Young International Boulevard NE. As the 100 year old building had been closed for many years, a complete renovation is taking place and a new look will greet customers. In the ground floor space, cigar lounge Red Phone Booth will be housed in 4,000 square feet. On the second floor, Amalfi Pizza, a traditional Neapolitan trattoria, will occupy the remainder of the building.

old Daileys facade

“With the booming businesses and tourism in the area, we are excited to bring our inventive concepts to downtown Atlanta,” said CEO Stephen de Haan. According to Central Atlanta Progress, “Downtown has witnessed remarkable growth and investment over the past five years.”

The first of a multi-location franchise roll-out, Red Phone Booth is a prohibition experience featuring an extensive classic craft cocktail and cigar program led by spirit specialist and certified tobacconist Tom McGuire. Patrons will notice the finest attention to detail that provides for exceptional cocktails including 100% fresh squeezed juices such as blood orange, mango, and cranberry, hand chipped double-reverse osmosis ice, garnishes cut to order, a collection of some of the rarest liquors available and over a dozen tinctures, bitters and flavoring agents to help breath new depth. Small plates including fresh seafood, carpaccio, Neapolitan pizza and house made desserts including a rotating selection of signature desserts courtesy of former Dailey’s owner and current President of the Georgia Restaurant Association, Karen Bremer. Showcasing the 1920s speakeasy theme, the venue will feature restored original brick floors, have a honey onyx bar, intimate fireplace, custom Italian leather couches, and hand-painted ceiling with back lighting. A private “mob-style” kitchen complete with poker and pool tables will be available to rent for private events. Just like the former Prohibition in Buckhead, guests will enter by securing a secret phone number and dialing it into a restored antique London red phone booth entryway.

Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, Amalfi Pizza will be a traditional Neapolitan pizzeria centered around two 6000 pound wood-burning brick ovens imported from Italy that will have to be lifted into the second floor space by cranes. The 170 seat dining room will also have large semicircular booths, custom wrought iron chandeliers along with Juliet balconies overlooking an Italian-inspired entryway. Co-founder and operating partner Greg Grant will work hand-in hand with pizzaiolo and executive chef Luis Vargas in the kitchen to develop an authentic Italian menu that will include Neapolitan-style pizzas as well as appetizers, salads, pasta dishes and original desserts from Dailey’s recipes. Originating in and the true pizza of Naples in the 1600s, Vera Pizza Napoletana is 12 inches or less in size, made from simple fresh quality ingredients from the Campania region of Italy and cooked at temperatures in excess of 900 degrees in approximately 60 seconds. In addition to traveling to Naples and throughout the entire region to find the best ingredients, both Stephen de Haan and Greg Grant staged with the Italian Pizzaiolo Maestros at Pizzeria Mattozzi, established in 1830, and Pizzeria Da Attilo. This apprenticeship, along with studying in the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, have allowed their passion for food to develop into the skills necessary to bring this historic, simple, and beautifully executed street food to Atlanta.
