THE COLLECTIVE FOOD HALL SPRING HAPPENINGS 2021

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 5/2/21

Spring Events, and Spring Fling Live Music Fridays

During the normal operating hours throughout the week, The Collective Food Hall runs a chef-driven dining oasis powered by some of ATL’s most popular chefs and food brands. Chef Hector of El Super Pan fame has his El Burro Pollo concept in full swing serving burritos, ceviches, and other goodies alongside a fully stocked bar. Aviva by Kameel, ATL’s most highly rated restaurant, is headed by Chef Kameel and his son Nas as they continue to dish out the same signature unbeatable Mediterranean cuisine they are so well known for. Poke Burri, the most award-winning poke brand ever, is offering their standard menu coupled with location-exclusive secret menu items that have given them a social media cult following. Wildleaf Salads is steady slinging salad goodness that is giving the neighborhood a much-needed source of green goodness. Additionally, By Weight and Measure (a new cocktail bar concept by the good folks behind Joystick Bar and Georgia Beer Garden) and Smo’Que Burger (another new concept, offering a mixture of southern-inspired BBQ and classic hamburger dishes) will be opening soon as well.
Past that culinary roster, The Collective Food Hall is proud to announce a brand new lineup of programming and happenings! Our events page on thecollectivefoodhall.com site lists a slew of streaming for sports, entertainment, and more on the 50 foot wide BIG SCREEN media wall we have in the plaza area of the space. Some of the upcoming highlights include watch parties for Atlanta United and The Kentucky Derby!
The most exciting programing “hitting our stage” though, is our preeminent Spring Fling Live Music Fridays starting this week on 4/30 with concerts running throughout the month of May until 5/28. Ante/Meridien Records has partnered with The Collective Food Hall to curate a stunning queue of talented musicians to perform each Friday night in the heart of our venue for the next several weeks. Amelia, one of ATL’s most exciting new singers, is the “headliner” and will be performing a full set of signature songs, covers, and medleys on 5/7. A list of all the artists can also be found below, including their social channels and links to their music. Each concert will start at 6:00pm and then run again featuring another artist at 7:15pm. The beauty of those performance times is that the golden hour from the sunset is happening around then creating a gorgeous, warm glow throughout the plaza and inside the food hall space. And of course, all of our vendors will be available with tasty food and yummy drinks to enjoy before, during, and after the performances!
Oh, yeah- bright, colorful, spring-time-themed floral fixtures have been added throughout the entire space to help create a secret garden escape in the heart of midtown! Orchids, wisteria, eucalyptus, and more now cover every nook and cranny offering tons of “Instagram-able” backdrops for your digital documenting delights.

JOE HERTLER & THE RAINBOW SEEKERS, ANNOUNCES APRIL 2021 TEN-SHOW RUN ACROSS TEXAS, TENNESSEE, GEORGIA, NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA & OHIO ALL OUTDOORS & SOCIALLY-DISTANT

On April 18th, the band concludes their Texas shows at Empire Garage in Austin, TX.

Their southern run continues at Yeehaw Brewing Company in Nashville, TN on April 21st, before Park Tavern at Piedmont Park in AtlantaGA hosts the band on April 22nd. Then, on April 23rd, the Rainbow Seekers hit Lenny Boy Brewing in Charlotte, NC, followed by Pour House in Charleston, SC on April 24thGreenville, SC sees the band next at Quest Brewing on April 28th. The band will head back to North Carolina, with a stop in Asheville at Salvage Station on April 29th, and the tour will come to a close in Columbus, OH at Woodland’s Tavern on April 30th.

As COVID-19 drastically altered life as we knew it, frontman Joe Hertler recalls the night in February 2020 when the band had to cancel their tour, and immediately rented a van to head home, embracing uncertainty and change like never before. “Change, I believe, is an expression of nature’s joy – and over the next year, we bunkered down, did what we were instructed to do, and learned to live our lives without live music. Humanity adapted, as it always does. I dare to say a sense of normalcy even emerged from the chaos, as we learned the value of patience.”

With a renewed sense of optimism, Hertler continues, “The lengthening light of spring will soon crack through winter’s shell – and it seems, perhaps, that we’re on track to return to life as it was. Outdoor, socially-distant show opportunities have been approved in many communities – and we, Rainbow Seekers, will be emerging from our dens.”

The band invites you to join them as they aim to bring a rainbow after the storm unleashed by a deadly pandemic. Joe echoes, “I have a feeling that 2021 is going to be one of the most refreshingly memorable years that any of us have yet to live.”

FEED THE CREW FOOD DRIVE TAKES PLACE FRIDAY 12/11

Posted by Liz and John Attaway, 12/7/20

ELEKTRA GIVES BACK & ATLANTA’S CENTER STAGE HOST “FEED THE CREW!” FOOD DRIVE IN PARTNER WITH MUSICALLY FED
CONTACTLESS EVENT TO BENEFIT LIVE MUSIC INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS AFFECTED BY COVID-19 TAKES PLACE ON DECEMBER 11
10AM-6PM EST AT CENTER STAGE
Elektra Gives Back and Atlanta’s Center Stage have teamed up with Musically Fed to host the “Feed The Crew!” holiday food drive on Friday December 11, 2020. The contactless, drive-through event benefits Atlanta music industry professionals affected by the COVID-19 Global Pandemic and touring shutdown. According to NIVA, the National Independent Venue Association, the Independent Venue and Promoter Industry is experiencing 95% revenue loss, while 95% of employees are furloughed and 90% of venues are at risk of bankruptcy. Elektra Gives Back recently launched as a philanthropic, employee-led resource group at Elektra Music Group, and “Feed The Crew!” will be its first, official charitable undertaking. Musically Fed is a 501(c)(3) Organization dedicated to mobilizing the music industry in the fight against hunger by donating unused backstage meals to community organizations that feed the homeless, hungry and food insecure. Since the pandemic, Musically Fed has shifted their focus to taking care of those in the music industry who are out of work without live events.  ENTERCOM has signed on as the radio partner for the charitable event.
Adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines, safety requirements, and social distancing protocols, “Feed The Crew!” is scheduled to run 10am-6pm on December 11 at Center Stage (1374 W Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30309). During this time, volunteers will accept donations of non-perishable foods to be distributed among the local music and production community responsible for live gigs in the area. Those interested in donating may pull into the garage free of charge and leave their items with staff. For completely contactless drop off, industry volunteers can alternately pick up items from your trunk. A list of items suggested for donation can be found below. Donations are set to be distributed the following Friday by Musically Fed.
As organizer for “Feed The Crew!, Elektra Music Group Regional Director of Promotion Darrin Schnur said, “Music fans aren’t the only ones who miss live shows and concerts. Tens of thousands of support staff who bring these shows to life are missing them just as much, and they are in need of a lifeline right now. When COVID-19 put the touring business on pause, box office employees, stagehands, caterers, lighting and sound design artists, production staff, and security teams lost their chief source of income, struggling to keep food on the table. We couldn’t just sit by, so Elektra Gives Back joined forces with Musically Fed to help out our friends and family who make concerts happen. If you’re in Atlanta, we hope to see you on December 11. If not, please donate what you can. Hopefully, we’ll all be back in the crowd soon.”

Josh Antenucci from Center Stage adds, “2020 has been unimaginably hard on the workforce that makes live music happen. The pandemic response has prevented our workers the opportunity to work, earn and provide for themselves and their families. As the holidays approach, we are honored to partner with Elektra Gives Back and be able to work for our crews and help put food on the tables of those in most need.
Musically Fed Founder Maria Brunner concludes, “Musically Fed is excited to partner with Center Stage to help raise much needed food items for gig workers…the staff people who are the life blood of making concerts happen. They are usually the givers, helping so much in the Atlanta Community. Now it is time to help them.”
Online donations may be submitted to Musically Fed – a $10 donation provides 5 meals! Event information and details are enclosed below.
Be on the lookout for more announcements from Elektra Gives Back.

BIG NIGHT OUT ATLANTA

Posted by Liz Attaway, 11/4/20

There is a buzz that lifts through the air as the lights dim on stage, you hear several voices raise in excitement, several clap with enthusiasm, while others stand quietly in anticipation. A small group shuffles through the dark to their instruments as the lights go up and blaze into a prism of blues, greens, and reds. The crowd cannot contain itself and erupts in applause, singing, and joy. The future of live music hangs in the balance on this weekend of performances, because if done right, this could be the norm until we “get back to normal.” And Big Night Out is the path forward. With acts like Moon Taxi, Big Boi and his friends, as well as Futurebirds, and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, we can proudly announce that live music is back AND SAFE.

Everything was done to ensure the best concert experience, while keeping the attendees safe. Starting with the mask requirement for public spaces and to maintain a 6-foot distance was key. You can say that they’re required all day long, but without constant reinforcement, some people will have a few drinks and forget. We literally saw a group of people employed to tell people to put their masks back on in public spaces. Second key is the way they handle the crowd. With pods that separated the crowd into 2, 3, 4, and 6 into groups that were socially distanced 6 feet, this is how you keep people safe, yet can enjoy a great show. We wouldn’t be surprised if these “rage cages” caught on and started a trend. Yes, rage cage, write it down, it’s the future of enjoying music safely! Every time I heard this term, Smashing Pumpkins Bullet With Butterfly Wings lyrics pop into my head, “Despite all my rage, I’m still just a rat in a cage.” Insert rage in front of cage! Genius. But, back to pods themselves, this was a great experience in tandem with the mask requirements! We were VERY pleased with the whole experience. Good job, Big Night Out!

On Friday, we saw two fun bands perform, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Moon Taxi. Here’s a little bit about them and some photos!

Reminiscent of semi-local greats like Here Come the Mummies, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong kicked-off Big Night Out Atlanta. From the funky beats, to 70s grooves, to big band tunes, they’re a high-energy band that loves what they do! Maybe it’s the lack of live shows they get to do, but the enthusiasm permeates all their music and gets the audience excited. It culminates in long guitar solos, jams to island sounds, and fun sing-alongs like the Lion King Cover.

What struck us about Moon Taxi is that this is the product of all those years of rock-n-roll rolled up into one good band! The sounds of the 80s, electronica, indie rock, fast/slow rock of the early aughts, 90s reverb all permeate each song. This well-produced, smooth sounding, indie/alt rock group, has a great guitarist, fantastic singer, and a ton of energy. They mentioned that they hadn’t toured in 240+ days and you could feel every minute of the happiness of both the crowd and the band. Turn it up to 11!

Saturday night was delayed due to a huge rainstorm that dumped a boatload of water on the audience. Here’s some photos from that night, courtesy of Drew Dinwiddie.

Futurebirds are touted as an indie rock band with country rock elements, Wiki calls it, ‘Psychedelic Country.” Also according to Wiki, they have toured with Drivin’ & Cryin’, Grace Potter, and performed at big music festivals, like Bonoroo.

The Marcus King Band is a southern rock band out of South Carolina that mixes its sound with blues and big band.

Sunday night was all-in for the local former-Outkast great, Big Boi and boy, did he bring the crew to play!

Mixing in DJs, rock-rap of Kneel’n Rey, Killer Mike, Goodie Mob with CeeLo Green, Sleepy Brown, it was an all-out bass fest.  You could feel it right in the chest, and it was GLORIOUS. Performing OutKast favorites like Rosa Parks, Bombs over Baghdad, to Goodie Mob’s Cell Therapy, there wasn’t a lack of grooving and singing along. Big Boi and his pose always bring so much energy to their performances and this one was the same! I am a little partial to OutKast as they were popular when I was in college back in the day, and I love how much they mix sounds of the late 90s and early aughts with up tempo samples and maybe even a little hint of cotton-eyed Joe mixed in for fun. It was a fun time dancing, singing, and feeling the energy from each performance.

Did we mention we love the term rage cage? That’s really want the pods are and we hope to see more concerts and big festivals go this way. Getting live music back will help our souls and if it’s done this way, we’ll all feel safer for it. Welcome, back live music!
